I just shipped my first few orders. I put them in 4x6 rigid mailers, even though they were only 2 3-inch stickers per order. And then mailed them via USPS as letters. They all seemed to arrive ok. I originally was going to put them into cellophane bags to protect the stickers, but decided against it. I incorporated the shipping costs into the price of the stickers, but didn’t realize that by using Ko-fi as a storefront, Paypal does a charges a processing fee…which is the exact same price as my shipping 😂

Congrats on that! Yeah, there’s always a hidden fee so where for you to find. It definitely takes some trial and error to find the best flow and services that work for your set up. PayPal does have steep fees. I have it as a option on my Shopify shop and people so use it. I was considering getting rid of it because it just costs more money. I’m not sure if it’s a deal breaker for people though. Live and learn haha!

I love going through and finding out how other people ship items out. I have almost no branding style. If you are just getting started, don't forget you can go super cheap. At this point I go through so many orders. I have always shipped in a blank #10 Envelope which I run through a super cheap B/W Laser Printer. for protection I use a small piece of Chipboard with the packing slip folded around it, and the order tucked nicely inside. Many different ways to ship an item out. Fantastic video!

Thanks! That's a really good point! The blank/generic method you described works great and is probably the way to go especially when getting started. Thanks for sharing your method. I always enjoy talking shop!

What about bigger stickers and decals? Like 7inch by 7 inch? I use USPS Ground Advantage and it costs a lot.

You can mail them as "flats" with USPS using the same rigid mailer I've shown in the video. Mailing as flats without tracking is significantly cheaper. The tracking is what makes it expensive, but if it would be a financial loss if it got lost in the mail it would be best to include the tracking. You kinda have to weigh whats most important.

I enjoy your vids 👏 once my cello baggies ran out I switched to glassine. I tried the biodegradable baggies, but found them to be difficult to open without damaging them. Like they looked handled no matter how careful I’d be. Can’t remember the maker but I know I got them from one of the top baggie suppliers. They just felt weird too. Grainy kinda. Anyway- I like the glassine look. A kinda frosty see though vibe

Thanks for checking out the videos! :D That's really to know about the biodegradable baggies. I haven't looked too far into them, but I was curious if they were indistinguishable from plastic ones. I've always heard good things about glassine -- maybe I'll just go with those. Thanks for sharing your experience with those.

I am being told by the USPS that I cannot ship my sticker packs (6 or 8 stickers in a baggie) because they claim it won’t go through the rollers. They say I have to pay the nonmachinable surcharge but my customers are not getting my stickers for up to 4 weeks. The alternative is a 3.75 tracking package that still takes 5 biz days to arrive. Any thoughts? They’re flat out refusing to take my stamped envelopes.

Have you tested mailing them? I wasn't clear if you were just asking USPS and they said no, or you mailed some and they didn't arrive or took a long time to arrive to your customers. I don't ask USPS, I just test. I've been able to mail them in envelopes with just a regular forever stamp (no nonmachinable surcharge). My general rule of thumb is as long as it looks like it could be a greeting card and it's under 1oz in weight it's totally fine. If it's over 1oz you need to pay more postage. In the cases like that, or for larger bulkier orders you can buy rigid photo mailers -- I use the 9x7in ones and you can mail those as a "flat" rather than a package. Flats are cheaper because they don't include tracking (you can add it but it basically turns into package pricing if you do).

  • @redhalftone

I'm not well-versed in HS codes. The international barrier to entry is steep, so I only ship domestically/US. It's too much of a headache for me at this point.
