How I overhauled GRAPHICS in my indie game! | Devlog
Ойындар
In this devlog, I've completely overhauled the graphics in my indie game.
- I've added rule-tiling, allowing tiles to connect or slope (enter different states) depending on where they are, to make everything look way more organic.
- I've also updated the parallax background, as well as changed to using a parallax camera, instead of coding my own script to create a 'fake' parallax effect.
- I've also added camera lookahead, so the camera is offsetted slightly ahead of the player, helping them see what is most important, and influencing them to explore more, something important in the metroidvania genre.
Graphics are massively important in any game - it's the selling point! So it's been important to get it right!
Scorp is a combat, dungeon-crawler-style metroidvania focused on fighting in an arid desert following a story of oppression.
It is made by Jarvis Crompton (MrCrompz) in the Unity 2D game engine and C# programming. I've been working on the project for about 3 years now.

The next devlog will be about a level/structure editor. See you then!

I'm very excited to see were this game ends up in the future keep up the good work dude
Great game man, however I would recommend making the healing effect not really "pop out" all of a sudden and should be kind of subtle, because at the moment it seems too aggressive. Also add a little bit of camera shake while in combat and while placing items.

Yeah, I definitely agree. And I should add more camera shake, although I think it would be too much to do it while placing items.

@@MrCrompz While placing items, the camera shake's intensity and duration would be really small and the effect would look subtle, but nice.
looking at the thumbnail just thinking THIS IS TERRARIA
