How I Make Angular Stoneware Vases with Linear Markings
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This week's video covers a lot of ground. It shows how I throw, trim and attach the lines onto these vases. They're more individual pots, made to be grouped and displayed as opposed to used fucntionally, but to each their own. I also speak about pottery as a whole, my philosophies and discuss technique. I hope you like it and as always I've included some time stamps below if you want to jump to certain topics.
Timecodes:
0:00 - Introduction and discussion of the pots function
0:10 - Throwing the vase forms
4:06 - How I scrape my hands clean to lift pots off the wheel
14:07 - The thrown vases together
14:31 - Trimming the vases
23:11 - Adding the linear markings to the vases
27:05 - Wrapping vases to dry slowly, to prevent the lines from cracking
To find the trimming, spinner, tools I use you can follow this link: (fb.watch/6pc1lA360v/), they may not always be available but if you get in touch with Richard Carter, of that page, he may be able to help!
Thanks for watching!

Would you ever consider doing a week in the life video? I would love to see how a day changes based on what needs to be done. I can’t wait to save up and buy a few pieces from you tho!
"i think you can only obtain a certain level of freedom, once you've achieved a certain level of mastery." it couldn't have been better said. another great video!
you have such a generosity with your narration, and it shows in the honesty of your work as well. Keep up the great content ☀️

Cheers Jeffrey, that means a lot. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
I think your ceramics are easy on the eye and the colour is serene
I truly love this approach to "altering" a wheel thrown piece. Brilliantly done mate. Combining the skill of wheel throwing and the delicate touch of hand building/sculpting....marvelous!
I adore the bit of philosophy, or talking out your thoughts the way you do. Great therapy for you and probably a lot of help for most watching. Brilliant work as always.
patience, perseverance and practice practice practice. your videos are the fuel to keep the fire going, Danke
No matter how many videos of yours that I watch, I always learn something new. And always come away grateful for your generosity and knowledge - and for the unexpected bonus of falling more in love with the craft :)
I just wanted to thank you for all that you put into your channel, I’m currently learning pottery and your videos have answered so many questions some I didn’t know I had yet. Also your studio space is inspiring, you keep it so nice ✨

I am a Potter to, and you have no idea how much influence you have to me. I love your work and the way you do it.
I love this video! The camera work and your work is so beautiful. ❤️
Is and always will be the best/most well made pottery videos of all time. Such amazing and precise narration and visuals. I try, but honestly will never come close! Best of the best right here
These are very pleasing to the eye. This is what I aspire to but not quite got there yet. Only been throwing for a year (once a week for 3 hours) but I’m getting there! Your videos have helped me a lot! Thank you! 🎉
These videos are so relaxing, yet inspiring. I love to hear you talk about your work, so much passion and care involved. Please, keep creating this great content!
I absolutely adore the way you make your pots! As a maker myself I can't stop but just admire your level if dedication, excellence and overall outlook on your work. Thank you for sharing with us your passion ❤
Respect! That is art and craftsmanship
I found everything interesting! You’re videos have only gotten better and better
I really appreciate your glazes. They are so quietly rich and satisfying to look at.
Potter's skill is commendable
lovely way to accentuate the form of the pots!:) thank you for posting this vid!
Thanks for everything you did and everything you will do thanks for every information and detail you give it for us on like a gold plate 🙏🏼.
I absolutely love geometric pottery, these remind me of Native Universal Ceramics work, i've bought a bunch from them and i absolutely love it.
Love the discussion pertaining to several styles. Your trimming is much more of each body than mine, but i have learned that i can loosen up in other ways because of things I have watched you do or learned here. so, every artist can take something from the work that they admire. love your style
As always, a brilliant video! Thank you so much 🤗

You have such calming voice and the love and dedication you put into making art only makes it more amazing than it already is. It kind of inspires me😊 It inspires me to put a lot of dedication into what I do and I can't thank you enough for this. Maybe I'll try pottery, just for the fun of it. Thank you again💝

Your work utilizes natural geometry wonderfully proportions are very biological in nature
Это просто чудо, на это классно смотреть
awesome work, congratulations!
14:16 what a frame
cool
i realize that on the first throw there is a slight rotation of the right hand, what does it do? and how does it work? love your content so much!
How do you keep your trimming tools sharp? Btw, I love your videos and the extensive narrations that accompany them.
Question! Whenever I remove the skirt of clay, I tend to slightly knock my pot off center. Do you have any tips for trimming the bottom without throwing your piece off. Your videos are very helpful! Thank you!
wow
Simple angular forms are terrific. Much ancient pottery exploited the concept.
Maşallah
can you show us how you make those slited vases?

The ones that make a circle when arranged together? Sure! When I next make a set I'll make sure to film the process.
Would you mind adding that link for the trimming spinner?

Does your clay have any grog or sand in it?
What clay are you using?
How do I buy your pottery? Do you have an online shop?
Wow first!

They're thrown from 453 grams, (1 lbs).
I love your videos, man. Personally, I also love these designs more than the others. The line cuts the forms so neatly and actually emphasises the overall form. Despite the incredible quality and format of your videos, I have one criticism of your narration which I hope you will consider. I can't tell if you're using a script or not - it doesn't matter if you are - but I would suggest trying to avoid such sentences as "that's enough of that" or "that's a topic for another time". I've heard similar phrases in most of your videos and, to be quite frank, it's a rather distracting dismissal of your own narration. Simply move onto the next topic without drawing attention to the change of topic and each sentence will carry the same weight of importance as the next. Again, love your videos, I'm enjoying them thoroughly!
Which country are you. Can you teach me the art pls

Sorry! I’m coming to the end of a making cycle at the moment, which means I’ll be glazing and firing a lot soon, which, ultimately means there’ll be a big shop restock coming.
I’m sorry but at 0:30
