Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Inkwells are the task at hand this week, from thrown on the potter's wheel from 200 grams of clay, trimmed, bisque fired, glazed and finally reduction fired in my gas kiln. As always, thanks so much for taking the time to watch! And if you have any further questions please do ask in the comments below.

They're lovely. I'm not even a writer but I want one.
I followed this tutorial and managed to make one pretty successfully after a couple tries. I’m really scared to glaze it now. I’m going to make some test glazes first before I commit to a color!

How did it turn out? Now try a pen! They are impossible. Good luck!
This is a jaw dropping pottery making process!👍🏻
This is weirdly relaxing to watch. Nice job
I just love watching you work! Looking forward to the day when I am at least half as good!
Artists are always kinda "godly", because they make something beautiful out of something so plain. Appreciate! The form is so elegant😍😍😍
Brilliant as always, thank you, Florian, for another skillfully crafted ceramic and clear well presented video 👍😊
I would call myself an advanced beginner on the wheel, and seeing the ease with which you made such a perfect piece in so little time is amazing. I think you have to be a potter to appreciate this level of skill... It's something else truly
I like the way you talk and work, it's completely clear. Thank you for sharing your nice handmade.
12:35 The way you turn those is super satisfying. Shows you’ve been doing it for a while now too
Your videos are mesmerizing. You impart tacit knowledge like no other I've found. Not only are you a very gifted and talented artist, you are a gifted educator. Thank you so much for sharing.
Your attention to detail boggles my mind, both in creating the stonewares and the video. Simply amazing.. This time around I watched the ASMR version first and I can almost feel you thinking and I kind of anticipate your commentary. It's surprising to see there is some new information in every video, though the processes are seemingly similar. And watching your video definitely gives a sense of calm.. Thanks a ton.. Great job... 💐
You have to have a lot of patience for this type of work. They look very nice.
This is so super cool! Florian you would be an epic narrator on Audible 👍👍👍
These inkwells are so beautiful! I love when you show the glazing and firing process in your videos. Keep up the good work!
Hi Florian. I hope you are doing well As I told you in one of your latest videos I decided to take ceramics class this semester. It was a little bit difficult to me but I am trying to do my best. Your videos are sooo helpful Greetings from Colombia!
Incredible craftsmanship, as always.
I think it would be cool to see how the glaze reacts on a pot when you don't clean them up. I wonder if the drips would add unique details.
Amazing work, thankyou for putting together such a well thought out video! Your ceramics are exquisite!
Nice. I threw an ink well that I modeled off a mid 19th century U.S. well, from when mass production still meant hand thrown. It's a near exact shape as yours but about 38mm diameter. They were sold full of ink with a paper label of the ink brand and ready to go.
Excellent work and your step by step instructions were very helpful
By far my favorite pieces!
What an amazing video. I loved it. It's like terapeutic to see a job so weel done, and against the massive production of industrial times. Congrats. It adds value to the piece ia way that no mass production process is able to. I'll sabe the link. Maybe I could by a set some day. It would be amazing have a spot, at my home, only for the art orf writing with focus e relax, with pleasure in writing. Thanks for the video.
I loved the ceramic 😍 Very artistic.
Stunning
Hi! These are beautiful!! I would love to see a video that is a bit more indepth about your glaze testing! I am going to be testing some new glazes soon and would love to see your process! Keep up the good work!!
this is my new fave video i love your work so much xoxo
I wish I were your neighbour, so I could visit your studio everyday!😍
Thank you
beautiful, I love it 🌷👍👍👍
Wow, the video was amazing! I have a question: do you use your own dip pens for illustrating and coming up with new Ideas for pots? also, can you make a video about how you design your pottery from the very start? I saw your design sheets from your Q&A video and I loved them!!! it was like you are making concept art for a character😍 I will love to see your take on it😊
this was awesome and I'm so looking forward to seeing the pen being made

I'm not planning to make this myself but thanks for sharing the knowledge and showing your process. I'm interested how the glazing works as it looks great. but that's not going to happen, understandably ^^
Nice video
Fun fact : most of us here are not potters, they are just here because they like to watch someone doing it.
As always wonderful video beautiful work! Can you explain me why you have some already fire glazed pieces in the gas kiln? Why do you fire the glazed ones again? I still have so much to learn.
❤❤❤❤
You're really good love you
I get so nervous watching you lift those huge boards of thrown wet pieces. I'd be freaking out.

I agree - I would start shaking, and they all would come tumbling down! It is impressive to see all of them all lined up though.
I love your videos and your work! Will there be a video on how you make your pens? Do you extrude, or pull them like handles? and how to you secure the nib? Thanks so much!!

There will be! It's still under construction, so to speak. They're thrown in fact, which maybe makes their creation a little harder than necessary but it adds character.

@@floriangadsby Wow! I can't wait to see it -- you have my curiosity piqued!
So here you showed the ink well and in the other you show the pen (I came here from that one) but you never die how you make the pen rest. I am assuming you hand pull a strip like you do when making handles then shape them with just your fingers.
Florian, When I visit your web-site, everything is shown as sold out. I am in the US. Is this a web site problem or is it that you do not ship to the US?

I haven't done a shop restock in a while now! But I plan on doing one this month, it tends to be that I do 3 or so a year, so it is a rare event. It's worth knowing they generally they sell out quite quickly, in about 5-10 minutes. I have a newsletter you can sign up to on my website though, there I'll send out an advanced notification email for when the updates will occur.
12:42 I just want to know how you got your hands to turn those inc wells so seamlessly while still jump cutting your body. That is not human
What kind of clay body do you use?
They certainly look good, but how do you manage to sell all those inkwells? Who would use them?

Calligraphers use ink pots. Some artists do also. There is actually a decent market for dip pens and ink pots. Many of us who have one tend to collect multiples.

Glad you liked them! I sell them as sets with the ink dip pens, rarely alone, that being said, lots of folk who've bought these inkwells also use them as bud vases for small flowers/stems. Surprisingly though, there is a market for the pens and wells too, I suppose calligraphy has seen some kind of resurgence, in the same way pottery has. I've also been told that these are often purchased as gifts for friends/family who are keen letter writers, so there is certainly a market!
At this rate, when do you predict that your shop will be open again?

About 11 years!
Is it odd that I enjoy my pottery that's slightly heavier than expected? Just a little heavier. Psychologically it feels more durable to me.
which lathe model?. And how many pounds he can handle. I'm sorry I'm from Brazil.

Seems like one fiddly shape... x]
This is pottery
Отпресовывать надо, а пробку тоже из глины
if you throw a pot it might smash
só eu acho esses vasos finos demais?

شنو الي يضحك
So, why such a deep well with such a short pen? This seems wasteful or just poor design. Your pot and pen should be of similar depth or you are using more ink to be able to reach the pen to the actual ink.
Wonderful work, but why do you always Talk like you were on a funeral
Yawn 🥱
You have to see the ink in the well otherwise you dip your pen too deep and corrode the ferrule. That’s why most inkwells are either transparent or designed with a wide mouth that allows you to see the ink inside. This is not an inkwell in any practical sense.
Nobody needs one , the younger generation don't know how to write.
Please don't Speak 🗣️🗣️🙏🙏🙏

Luckily I upload all of my videos as an 'ASMR' version too, without any narration whatsoever, leaving only the sounds from the process. I'll upload that version on Wednesday and you can find dozens of videos edited without any voice-over in my ASMR playlist.
that glaze is so ugly
