How I make a WATERFALL EDGE and use a router to cut BISCUITS at 45 degrees

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Again and talky video for me. However worthy to slow down and show exactly how I make this waterfall edge. I am using a trim router for the first time to cut the biscuits on a 45 degree angle. It does come with some cautions and advice. So take that into consideration please. Enjoy

I have spent my life honing the skill of messily cutting bits of wood way off square with a hand saw. It is so refreshing to see some beautiful perfect right angles and furniture made from what would have been waste. Thanks for your humour and your style and for sharing your work with us. Filming things delays the process of making anything dramatically and is another skill that the casual viewer probably overlooks.

You could get a collet extension for the router .. if there is clearance, --OR -- use a 1/4" or 6mm ( thickness of your biscuits or spline ) down spiral bit and run the router flat against the 45 degree face - with some sort of guide bar - you could even make a new face plate that has a an adjustable fence on it which will index off the pointy end of the 45 degree face, so that you set the slit the same distance back from the edge. Then you woudl not have to extend the bit so much and would have better safety and probably better accuracy. Nice result!

@@dainermade Yep, that's one of the things that can happen. If you check the angle of the blade with a speed square, you have to make sure the speed square is square to the blade. If it is off square slightly, you end up with a blade which is set higher than 45°.

That is awesome! I'm JUST getting a stash of pallet wood (& having the JOY of breaking them down). I'd ordered a Pallet Buster head, but the fiberglass & wood handles I have started cracking the first time of use, SO, I went thru my steel stash, broke out the welder, & made my own. ANYWAY, I love how your slabs turn out, but the pallets I have don't have the different tones like yours. 😞 I'll start with something small & see how it goes! Oh, & per your suggestion of NOT being a tightass like you, I just ordered a metal detector. I'll have to find it again, or maybe you can answer; what oil-based, wipe-on poly do you like so much?
