I, too, am coming from adjacent hobbies (houseplants and exhibition chickens). Discussions about our own husbandry IMO is crucial in any hobby. Some of us go in really hard, fast, and full-on only to taper off at the end while others have the time to go slow and steady for the long haul. i.e. I'm finding it a bit tedious to continuously have to trim my 20 gal dutch-style scape. Had I known, I would have saved some money and bought pricier, albeit slower growing plants like bucephelandra. Whereas my 55 gallon doesn't get messy too quickly because the plants have more space to fill in. I also would not have started off with live-bearers because it's been a nightmare as a new keeper to also take on the learning curve of birthing and raising fry.

For beginners - start with tanks (sizes, shapes, best uses), filters, heaters, the basics (pros & cons) 1). types of substrate and which is better and why.. 2). products - to keep water clean, treatments, ph balance - the good, bad and ugly (deadly) 3). decorations (plants- live or artificial), logs, shells, how to prep them before placing.. 4). types of fish (low maintenance to cichlids) and partner animals with each (if any) 5). types of food and which are better (live vs flakes) 6). how to spot a sick fish or tank declining (plants, slime, so on) Do you like saltwater tanks? and why or why not? the differences Just thoughts off the top hahahahaha. Looking forward to seeing other comments and suggestions

I’m interested in the different kinds of plants and how to pair plants with each other and with inhabitants 😊

How much too feed, what too feed, how to/when to trim plants, when to add root tabs. Also: where did you find your aquarium lid?

Imo, only go for nano tanks (5 to 10g) if you are able to heavily plant (for its size) from the start.

While it's easier to maintain, I would recommend a 10g or 20g as a first tank as it's easy to crash a small tank D:

I disagree 🤭 think we’re just repeating things people keep saying for years now.. I’ve never crashed a nano, not even when I was a noob, never met anyone on the forum I ran 20 years ago who did it… only met ppl crashing tanks they didn’t know how to make properly as noobs, like dirted tanks.. no matter the volume 🤭 also met ada aquasoil disasters before the water change rule even existed, we did it intuitively.. some didn’t have that intuition

@@Danny-MOG I've had two friends crash 5g tanks, and went with my larger tanks first before going for my two 5gs, and still managed to crash a 5g daphnia colony with a few plants myself as well. Also with most of the fish people do want, a 5g or smaller nano is generally just unwise. I've been keeping for years and always recommend a 10 or 20 as a starting tank, just because it is easier to manage params for a new keeper, and you have longer for water to foul completely should a snail, fish, plant, etc unexpectedly go out on a newbie. Not saying nano tanks are hard, they're just not the easiest or best tanks for a brand new aquarist.

Is having alge a issue? My species has issue and die with a tank without alge. So it depends 😂😂
