Great Video, as always. I've also integrated my old baseball catcher's gear into several postapoc costume pieces. The face mask is now part of a helmet that the Scrappers in Mahlwinkel used at FALLEN 2022 as a peace offering for the feud with the von Asseln. (with the promise of a safe return, because it still is one of my favorite pieces :D ) The leg and chestguards are part of my regular character's full gear.

Question about design: (Hope this makes sense I'm not good at explaining things. Pardon for rambling.) 1. What's your approach to capture eyes to a piece on an outfit, VS. unintentionally drawing focus to other parts on the outfit, that steal from a main part? 2. What causes an outfit to be "too busy" or overly detailed. Making it look messy VS. seeing the outfit made of many pieces that are readable? 3. When is a piece of the outfit missing details? At Fan Expo I got to talk to an artist for feedback on drawing and he warned about, unintentional "focus grabbers" & to use a rule called "small, medium & large." From my understanding by using S,M,L sections in a design it causes balance. In every outfit you've made, applied S,M,L. Ex. The complete frying pan armour: The pan is large. The strainer/steamer is medium. the middle is small. The padding is large. The lower padding is medium, the knife is medium. Belt is medium, belt clasp is medium/small. The entire design is harmonized.

i appreciate finally coming across someone doing the whole PA costuming thing using design theory, means youre smarter than 90% of people doing this... - but you have just asnwered your own questions, havent you? :D but to add to that, color and material also matter. ive a design theory video somehre on the channel, go find that. really ALL of those things matter, but shape, size and color are the most dominant.

i was thinking of using frying pans and pots for my post apo costumes but didnt have an idea of how to incorporate them but now that i look back... why didnt i think of just flattening the metal XD i guess i just take the easiest ways to use stuff in post apo stuff.

attaching a relatively flat pan without flattening would kinda-work too, just sucks with the edges for "realism", since they would focus the energy.. but yeah this is the more elaborate route i show here , its not a must.

Question! - Where can you find more padded materials, like that catcher's chestpiece? I just got done adding some padded kneepads to my outfit and had a revelation; Padding is pad-KING. It's perfect for building-up "profile" and weight, and makes everything on the costume less flat and droopy. I have materials like rags and faux leather, but it's just not thick enough. Where can I get a decent source of that chunky, bolt-metal-on goodness?

some army jackets will have it, old soviet or more realistically aquirable, old german. also pot holders, chair padding.. look around you in the "regular" world :) recoloring is not a problem with lots of fabric paint :D

a hand-powered metal saw and a vice is really all it takes to cut as you see! aluminium pans are also easier to work than steel in that regard.
