In 2022 wife had our Peugeut Partner driven into, not her fault. Written off - only damage rear split bumper and broken light but an inch dent in the rear body corner. My insurance (economically for them) wrote it off on my description of the damage. This is a top spec Allure 120PS version - bought off brother 2 years before for £9k. Ath that time s/h prices were sky high, and this spec was almost impossible to find, there were 3 available nationwide at £13.5k and more!. A month of exchanges with the Insurance co and they had bid up to an offer of £10k. I sent them comparables of £13.5 k upwards. I eventually said I would accept £13k (cheeky I know) to go away.......an hour later they accepted. Best bit, I already had a bodyshop estimate based upon the pictures of £850 to repair, I asked to buy it back - they said £2850.......didn't take me long. Car fixed in two weeks and sits outside now (almost) as good as new with a cat S but completely fixed, and £9k in the bank plus 2 years free motoring......

My best deal was an 11 plate insignia that I bought for £1,200 - stuck it in Vauxhall for a full major service, timing/water pump, brakes all round and injectors. Then got a company works van, the insignia broke down and I sold it for £800. I'm an idiot.

I mean the fact that it's 3 'friends', buying cars to a set budget, then rocking up in them so the other 2 can take the piss and/or give their opinions, before heading out on some contrived challenges or road trips is absolutely nothing like the stuff done by Clarkson, May and Hammond.

I could never do that... I think, knowingly buy something off someone for pennies knowing full well its worth 10 times that or more, maybe if its a total sleeze bag, fine, but nah... I'd struggle! xD I think sadly its not that uncommon for people to sell stuff for nothing just to get rid of it... Heck, I've done it kinda my self... Sold a very nice scooter that probably was worth 1600 - 2000€ for 1200€...

I bought a car in Jan 2021 for £3000. It's actually still a nice car, but I today made a deal with a salvage company to sell it to them for £399. The reason being, it failed it's MOT yesterday and it was going to cost a fair bit (new rear sub frame, new wishbones, new spring + quite a few advisories), so I decided to just get rid. Throwing good money after bad is never a good idea, so I didn't see it as how much I could get for it. I seen it as how much it was going to save me. Agree with your first point. If I knew something was worth a good bit more than it was going for, I would offer a bit more, but still leave myself some meat on the bone. Maybe my parents were fools for raising me with the old "honesty is the best policy" mantra., but in reality, it hasn't served me too well tbh.

My best deal was a 1976 Jaguar XJS, the advert just basically said that the clutch was slipping and I bought it for £850, put a new clutch in it drove it to Germany and sold it for £10,000. those who know, know ;)

My best car deal would be my truck, this was in June of 2019. Bought a 2005 Chevy Colorado extended cab truck from my dad's work for $300.00, knowing that the auto transmission was going out. I did a trans fluid flush and put 28k miles on the trans before it actually went out. I still have it as my work truck have now over 35k miles on it with nothing but a $500.00 salvage yard transmission and maintenance so far. Even the A/C blows ice cold. I could sell it for $5,000 easy with the crazy used car prices now. But plan to keep it as It has been very reliable so far. Got it at 163k miles has 198k miles now.

Not the same but in Jan 2021 I bought out my lease for a 2019 Civic at $11K, detailed it and it sold with 24 hours for $19.5K. Definitely made a lot of those lease payments back :)

This is great - I’ve been thinking since you stated the channe you should do a podcast, especially since Tyler and Rory have joined you. This is getting better than your car throttle days.

I listened to the podcast on day of release while running this week, this story was so good I had to keep listening after I was finished just to hear the end of it 😅🙌

so back in 2007 i was doing van and car sales, sold a load of new transits to a chap that owned a carpet company, did them bottom dollar like £200 profit each deal. thing is, i knew he wanted a personal car so it was worth it, so he wanted a murcielago, but the one he wanted was for sale in another dealership and they wouldnt do him a deal on it, so i (the company i worked for not me obvs lol) bought the lambo from the dealership at trade, sold it to the chap at just below retail and the profit in the deal was low 5 figures from what i remember, my commission was like 3k for that deal before tax!

It's not quite as big a profit, but I was given a Lexus IS300, for free as a "non runner" because after experiencing an odd noise, the owners mechanic told him it needed a new transmission and quoted him $3900 AUD. I looked on eBay and found the appropriate auto for $440, he told me if I'm willing to fix it I can have it as he just bought another car after getting the quote. He told me I'd need a trailer or tow truck as it won't go under it's own power, so I took a battery and some hand tools and had a play. In just under an hour I had it running and moving, took it for a spin and realized quickly the box was fine and that the noise is coming from the front end. When I got home I jacked it up and found the front left wheel bearing had failed. Replaced the bearing and drove that car for almost 4 years, then sold it for $6500 as well as getting to return the registration plates and cashing in the refund, as the car was being shipped interstate. All in all it was quite a good deal.

Just before Covid I looked into trading my Corolla in, the dealership only offered 9k so I kept it. In August 2020 I was ready to buy something new since used car prices were up, traded it for $12,000 and sold an $8,500 pickup I had for $12,000 and got a new Rav4 hybrid for 3k under MSRP for $31,000. In September 2021 I sold the Rav4 for $35,000.

back in 2008, got a S reg Ford Ka in exchange for a bicycle....that we'd found in a skip....(the bicycle, not the Ka). Lasted 3 months before the bodywork rusted....

All joking aside Taylor, you need to get tested for sleep apnea, you have described some of the main symptoms of it,your life may depend on it

I've had a couple of cars make me profit. Bought cheap for either parts or from a damaged vehicle auction and then had them crashed into by others and written off. AUD$200 car insured for $2k. But the first time I visited Europe (which is a big deal as an Aussie) in 06, my first stop was to stay with a mate in Madrid and go the tarmac WRC. Ended up buying a 94 UK reg Cavalier from his workmate. Was going to give it to me for free, but still gave him EUR50. Drove back to UK to get the MOT & Tax done, then drove it around for 3 months. Gave it to my brother who was on scholarship or something at Cambridge who drove it for another 9 months. Sold it cheap to move it quickly when he came back. Can't believe how much Brits need to pay for insurance... GBP1k for the year for 3rd party... It's such a burden on drivers... Similar car here would've been maybe $500 for full comp insurance.

The best profit I’ve ever made was on a vw caddy that I bought for work a few years ago. It was 3 years old and up for £9.5k and it was a repossession so there was no VAT to pay as the finance company just wanted to recoup what was owed on it. I bought it 100% on finance, no deposit 😅 it had 16k miles from new. It was a tailgate mk4 model. I had it for 3 years (through covid) and spent a bit of money on suspension and wheel mods etc and put 20k miles on it. And because of the supply/demand for vans around that time I sold it for £11.5k! So even after paying off the finance and taking into account how much is paid in finance over the 3 years I’d had it I came away with about £900 in my pocket 😂 Not that it’s a huge profit but not many people make money from financing a vehicle.

I got my hopes up this was a full lenght podcast, that would be insanely great

Back in 2009 i found out that an elderly neighbour was selling his mothers 1982 Mitsubishi Lancer, this was one of those one owner elderly lady only driven to the shop kind of cars. The car had done only 60K kilometres since new and there service history was complete. I offered the owner 1500 NKR (about 150£) that was scrap price back then, he thought that was a bit low so we agreed on 2000 NKR. Had the car for 3 years and i sold it for 20.000 NKR, i have had well over 40 cars through my life and that Lancer was the only one i made a profit of.

Heres my deal of the year so far! Soo couple month ago i picked up a 2007 aprilia rs50 nocked the guy down from 450 to 200 within the same day i put a new cdi and cleaned the coolant system out it ran a dream and sounded mint! I thought ere lets send a vid to the guy jus to rub it in😲 he then said can i buy it back😂 we settled on 400 and a 50cc moped with 11 months mot he just couldn’t get it to run, sold the moped the next day as it was for 300 so all in 48hours i made £500 for well 20mins job and a cdi i had lieing around because i keep stuff like tht for those exact reasons id say im a taylor with bikes every thing ive owned im only (17) btw ive allways made profit

Purchased a 1988 Nissan 300ZX Turbo with 110,000 miles for $750 off a retired school teacher. It had a blown head gasket and a rusty left door where a scratch wasn't repaired properly and water got in it. The limited slip differential alone is worth that much.

The good old days, I sold a P38 when they were new. We were doing mods to them and selling them as limited editions, I grossed 29k from the RR and finance grossed 19k from it. The client bought another 3 from me.

My best deal ever was a one owner 1980 (Australian) Sno White Mk2 Ford RS2000 2 door with a genuine log booked 62,000 kms on it. The car was so well cared for it looked like it had just rolled off the factory floor. The seller had bought it new & worked overseas so he had hardly ever driven it in his 30+ year ownership. He had advertised for $4000 AUD but had so many enquires (including mine) that he decided to withdraw it from sale. I politely said if he would ever reconsider selling, to give me a call. He contacted me a few months later & told me he had been abused by everyone else who’d contacted him besides me when he withdrew it. He also realised he’d advertised too cheap & offered it to me for $6000 which I accepted. I owned it for a few months, but the pressure of owning such a rare & valuable car became too great & I auctioned it with a classic car auctioneers & it sold for $28,500 AUD. The footnote to this story is that it’s the probably the most original untouched Australian 2 door RS2000 to exist, and has changed hands since then for more than double what I sold for.

How about the worst deal ever!? I sold an RS 500 Sierra with 35k on the clock for £15000 - it was in 2006 but, it still chokes me up now!

My best one is my audi a3 pd130 mapped to 180bhp sport with full leather for £100 2 years on and it has cost £30 for a wheel bearing and £10 for a ball joint

In theory I could beat that! I bought my M4 2 years ago. Given that I live in Ireland and since brexit means that we can no longer import UK cars as we used to, cars like mine have increased in value. Similar cars here are now selling for €15k more than what I paid.

Years ago I bought an Alpina B10 3.5 for 2200 pounds at a salvage auction and spent around 1400 pounds in an incomplete restoration (Minus interior and aircon). A bloke came to me and offered 16000 pounds plus an audi A8 V8 in the trade. The A8 I sold for nearly 5000 pounds at the time which got me a total of 17400 pounds profit in the end. Did most of the mechanical work myself and had a mate paint the car for me. I then used the money to get married a second time. Granted this didn't happen in 24 hours but did happen less than a year since buying the car. New owner has since passed away from Covid and the car has a new owner now. Car had less than 2000 km on it when I bought it.

Best car deal ever? Best car show ever!!

Bought a vw bora a few years back for 600 quid. Some silly bint decided to crash into it and it was written off. Insurance company gave me 1800 quid and I bought the car back for 100 quid, clipped the bumper back in and drove it for another 12 months before fully stripping the interior, turning it into a track car and obliterating the clutch.

I wonder if the previous owner had taken it to a main dealer and been given a health check saying it needed £20k worth of work.

I have a very similar story. Short version is I got a message from an old chap looking for a new home for his immaculate, very low mileage dealer demo specced (heated black recaros, sat nav), fsh vw bora 4motion. I questioned the guy numerous times thinking he'd missed a zero... no, he was happy to take £100 for it. I jumped on a 3 hour train for it. Kept it a while, put some mercedes ML wheels on it, AP coilovers, exhaust, carbon CDA intake and sold it for £2k in the end. It was a hard car to sell, being jewish racing gold 😳

Taylor you probably should check your health if you fall asleep so easlily everywhere You might have sleep apnea - distorted sleep and oxygen flow to you body/brains by snoring. I know it because i had the same problem. Fixed it by going to sleep clinic and got diagnosed. Feel like a brand new men after i got my treatment. Dont feel like even taking a nap nowadays. Fir Everyone who snores i recomend going to sleep clinic.

This Range Rover story is so cool. Well I bought a Mercedes CLK 320 Avantgaurd it was back around when I turned turned 52..in 2016 I Kept going back into Autotrader.. The trader was asking £1495 I think I was based in South Wales and the car was Bicester about 5 miles. My dad drove a car you guys may not have heard of a 1973 drumroll Hillman 1500cc DL I would say the actual model but its more fun if you hunt for it.. Lilac in colour black vinyl roof black interior. So the 320 was pretty much my dream car lilac blue mohair roof with two tone leather walnut trim extra.. and best thing was the registration OU52 TJX I am Tim jones. Asked the trader would he do £1200 the phone went quiet for what felt like ages he replied saying yes but said a Banbury couple was coming to look at it Sunday morning I ignored this I feel it was a deposit he was after. He called Sunday morning saying bla bla bla and by 5pm it was driven by me deposit paid and I arranged collection for Thursday.. Still own the car today...

Late 83, CKD Aus 4 door Rangie, Original owner, Manual (Coz thats all there was from the factory in 83), Ice cold AC, everything worked, Dead fuel pump $500 plus a tow truck home. Sold 3 years ago mid covid lockdowns with new tyres, Carby rebuild and tune and a new battery for 18k owing me about 2k all in :-) I have 2 more (83 4 speed and an 86 3.5 injected Vogue plus an 84 factory auto (Torqueflite 3 speed) in bits) Unmolested Orange 1977 Volvo 244 auto, $500 plus trailer home 5 tyres, Fuel pump, a few globes and wipers plus a thorough service owed me $1100........ 7k Didn't advertise either car, all enquiries cold walkups. 98 Volvo S90 Royal and the rangies I have to hide out of site. Popped the 98 C70 out for a wash and once over (Its rough) and had 2 approaches in the 5 hours it was visible lol
