Although I was unhappy in our relationship, I didn’t think I would ever have to start over. Starting over was such a scary thought to me. I was with that person from 14 to 24. We moved in together at a young age and I never experienced having my own place. I am now 25 and since our relationship ended I’ve moved out on my own and have met someone new. It’s hard being on my own for the first time but it’s getting better.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to learn who you are, who you want to be, & what you want...it is so important to gain that strength and personal knowledge. Make yourself your first priority. You’ve got so much time...enjoy you! Go take some random classes...like cooking or dance or art...be open to something a little different to enjoy and learn and grow from. Enjoy your new place! Have some girlfriends over for some wine therapy, girl talk and movies. Even better, plan a weekend getaway with friends or vacation! (Of course after covid 19) Good luck with the new relationship...just don’t rush anything. It’s ok to take time to take a step back and “do you” and learn to really understand and love yourself...you have so much ahead of you, now is the time for you!

This is also my story. It was painful as I grew with him. I had to rediscover me, my purpose outside of him. To finally fall in love with me. There are times that I want him to come back, and others where I'm grateful I made it out and I'm still young to experience someone else other than him. But it rough. I'm fearful of being alone but also fearful in being in another entrapment like that relationship

Jeannie I wholeheartedly agree with this! I was single for a little over a year after a break up (was with someone for 2+ years) before meeting my husband. In that year I invested in myself- I tried new activities, focused on my own personal projects, started meditating and before I knew it I was really enjoying being single. I started to think about the type of relationship I wanted the next time around. I got really specific about the type of partner I wanted and legit a few weeks after I did that I met my husband. I always joke that I manifested him into reality. Like you, I knew the moment I met him. We both felt it instantly on our first date (Aug 2017), the rest is history. It sounds cliche but once you get in the groove of REALLY loving yourself the universe reciprocates that energy by sending you more AUTHENTIC Love.

I love that you said that because so many people feel the need to "have it all together" or to "have all the answers" and I'm glad you let people know that's they don't need to have all the answers or have it all together. We also dont have to stop working on ourselves when we do get it all "together". Amen to EVERYTHING that you said about narcissists! I almost married one last year, but was wise enough to finally walk away and dodge a “hollow point” bullet, lol. I was in a bad relationship years ago, and I remember leaving, having my own place with my son. I didn’t know what to do, who I was anymore, I took two and a half years to myself. I went to college, got my G.E.D. And I went back to my old self. I met a good man, I’ve been with him 10 years (married 9 years now). I now know, what a healthy marriage is supposed to be about. Thank you for this. I had a breakup in late 2018, it went fine, though once my ex moved on late in 2019 it devastated me. It’s 2020 and I’m still just feeling guilty about all of it. The fact that you said it took you 2 1/2 years REALLY helped me not feel alone. So far it’s been a year and a half and I know it will take me longer to get over this. I think everyday that I’m never gonna get over this tho....But I know I will. I believe in myself.

Amy Sue you got this girl. And NEVER feel guilty for it not working out. When your in a relationship, both of you should put your pet to make it work. I took my time, and I loved every minute of it. I spent so much time with my parents (been married 46 years now). Sadly, my daddy has cancer right now so it’s been so hard this last week... but I know all of these tough times pass for all of us. Life is meant to make mistakes, and learn from them as well. And it’s ok to cry, be angry, and let your self heal mentally and emotionally. I love this! I'm in the stage of post break up after 7yrs with someone, I moved out 2mos ago and I'm getting to know myself and work on me, I'm excited for my future and I'm so happy u have found happiness!!

After you identify it, literally throw that shit out of your circumference and just step out in love. I’m soooo happy for you! My boyfriend and I just broke up the other day .. and I had been feeling like it was a low-vibrational relationship for a while. I needed this video. I’ve been working on myself. But I can’t lie and say that not having love hasn’t been on the forefront of my mind. I’ve come a long way in the self love department and I’m excited about the change. "once you feel heard, you feel motivated. It's when you don't feel heard that you start feeling stuck." OMG. I CRIED WHEN YOU SAID THIS. On this month of April, I was going to have my college graduation ceremony. I am first-generation and the past 4 years have been the toughest years of my life. I will be graduating debt-free. I also wrote an original song and worked on the track. I had it all done and ready to perform at my graduation party. Now, everything is canceled. I am a student worker so once I technically graduate, I will be jobless. I worked my but off, managing 2 jobs (3 if youtube counts), and had a total of 5 internships just to be jobless after graduation. I feel like my family does not understand nor my friends (again,). My dream is to create my own company that will impact students and the community (& hopefully the world). I truly feel stuck Jeannie! But after writing this comment, I feel heard. Whether anyone reads this long comment.

this is the kind of talk show I want to see - you articulate and communicate or explain so clearly, taking time with so many details - that's definitely something I don't think we don't do enough - process what happened and where we are emotionally, mentally and etc. - love you and your mom and the amazing growth you guys share with everyone, the highs and lows.

I love this video, because everyone always throws around "love yourself," but you rarely see what that looks like in practice. You honestly make being single (and I don't mean the, single-but-desperately-trying-to-hook-up-and-date type of single) seem so fun and fulfilling. You're the only reason I watched The Real anyway, I'm so glad you have your own channel.

The original poster is thanking Jeannie for her honesty regarding her single journey in which she spoke about discovering herself and really finding (not faking) love within and for herself before entering into another relationship. What point were you trying to make?

@@Prosper927 the point that I am trying to make is that the commenter should be more thoughtful in their word choice as it comes off as she is disillusioned.

Jeannie's Ideal Relationship must have traits: - Thorough Communication (attracted to somebody else, embarrassed sexually, etc) - Brutal Honesty (Like Mama Mai) - Respect - Understanding Her (Not agree with everything but understand her life. Example- Reasons why she stopped talking Mama Mai) - Vision (on the same page for the future so you can grow together) - Forgiveness (in a working relationship you are going to make mistakes and let people down) - Unity (be passionate about certain aspects - not everything) - Healthy Love (Healthy- nurturing each others souls, holding each other, 5 love languages)

The part where Jeannie started talking about Jeezy particularly about the 1st time their eyes locked got me teary 😢😢😢😢from gladness. I'm so happy that they found each other. True love is just so beautiful ♥️♥️♥️♥️. May the Almighty keep their union tighter🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

I’ve been divorced for almost 5 months now, and no one has understood me when I’ve said I’m taking this time to heal myself, to learn and grow before I date anyone else. @@tamekabest425 it will be hard I have been estranged and separated for 3 years but like Jeannie says take time for yourself to understand what you want, what makes you happy ,Career ,home, emotionally spiritually, then when you really start to know what makes you happy trust everything else will come I have been on this journey myself for 2 years and I am so happy bc when I do date again I will be ready.

I believe once I started growing closer to Christ I truly began loving myself again, or should I say loving myself at the start. I began to realize that if God loves me through all I've done, through all I will do, and have been through than I too can love myself. I had to realize that when God forgives me I am truly forgiven and I had to stoop holding myself accountable for things that I can not change, things others did, and how I treated myself. I forgave myself, and that is truly when I started to love myself, accepting Jesus Christ truly changed my life. God bless, Jesus loves you.
