@Mike Boyde, just want to say that this was the first video I watched when I decided I was going to hold my breath for 4 minutes. After 8 weeks of above-water training I had the opportunity to have an experienced spotter for some in-water training. I hit 4 minutes on the first attempt. @BeardOfPower7
9 күн бұрын
@@hobiexplorer4857Breathing exercises. Cardio training. Take a lot of really deep breaths before trying to hold it. Keep working at it and you will get better. You can go longer. With one deep breath you should be able to sit calmly and hold it for at least 30 seconds. It's not the lack of oxygen in the blood making you give up. It's the impulse/urge to breathe. You have to endure through it. With proper breathing technique before attempting a hold the blood will be enriched with oxygen compared to normal so it'll last for much longer than we're willing to suffer, before literally passing out.
Well done!! Super inspiring and excited to see what other talents are ahead for ya! Cheers

@azziebean4773

Same, I remember having a calm surprise when I was about 8 or more, realising that I didn't feel the need to breathe at all and was completely content. I wasn't distressed in the slightest. I began to sink to the bottom of the pool, I didn't need to swim and a lot of the air had began to leave my body. I was lethargic but fully aware, I wasn't losing consciousness. I was just sitting under a metre of more water on the pool floor, I took a big exhale and about 20 seconds later or maybe more when I began to feel sleepy, someone yanked me from the water and the shock of air was what actually made me struggle to breathe, I was so disorientated by the noise and light and overwhelming amount of oxygen in the air. My heartrate was really low, I then found out I was under there for almost 10 minutes and they thought I drowned, and if they hadn't pulled me out I probably would have drifted off and drowned. That was the second time I neadly died. It was like all my senses were... there, you could tell, and most people panic but I was content, comfortable and that honestly scares me. I don't go swimming often because I need to be consciously aware to go up and breathe, but see I never felt like I was drowning. I drown in my dreams almost every night, capsising boat I think. Maybe I drowned like that, always have been terrifed of boats and the ocean. Sucks when you live on one of several small islands and school trips are normally to a few of them (I can swim though)

Hiruko Winter me too bro but mine was a little more different I was 7 years old i think and i went to the public pool around here then i was just looking down at the bottom of the pool then a realized i was underwater but i didn’t feel the need to breath u know? And then I started to get sleepy ( it was soooooo relaxing omg ) but then i remembered a story that my mom once told me that was like a boy that sleeps in the pool and he drowned and died because no one was there for him so I “wake up” and got out of the pool and idk what happened next i forgot haha and i also idk how many minutes i was there but i think it was more than 10 or 8 min because i lost track of time while i was underwater, it felt like i was meditating in the deep of the ocean, my eyes were closed so everything was black.. it was so relaxing but now that i moved there is no pool here ;-; but for sure i would probably sleep there and have drowned and died because there was no life guards there
@naoseidenada5201
5 жыл бұрын
But i would do it again for sure 😝 because it was the only time where i was so relaxed and my body felt light, I couldn’t here anything there, and there was no light because my eyes were closed so yeah hehe but i miss that feeling
That is very cool! I used to be a competition swimmer and breath control is tied to speed since turning the head to take a breath can slow you down. I could do 2 laps before needing to take my first breath. The point being, that maybe what may increase ones time is to have something else to think about while under water, reading, a video, something than than just watching the timer.
These days I’m learning Freedive your video is very motivated. Thank you.

7:40 meditation is tricky. When focusing on breathe its too easy to accidentally switch to manual breathing which breaks the natural flow during meditation. Another way that is more effective is listening or feeling your heartbeat. Heartbeat is less under your control and after awhile you can actually feel every pulse throughout the entire body which is pretty cool.
@armjr7501

Another way is through contemplation. Ask questions to yourself while you do other techniques. For example ask yourself “what will my next thought be?” Or “who am I?” These silence the thoughts briefly and with practice you will find the way to silence the thoughts for an extended period of time. I have to give credit to Josh X from xfamunity on KZread for this technique :)

Great job! Thanks for sharing!
I like how he not only shows his achievements but he also shows his lows where he’s contemplating continuing. It shows that everyone runs into problems and failure and those who choose to continue will reach their goals.

I’m super late to this but I’ve been training to hold my breath using the same app. It’s definitely worth it! I’ve been practicing right before bed then hitting the pool and repeating the same holds. I started only holding my breath for 40 seconds and within 3 days, I can now hold my breath for 2:30

Hi Mike. I like your achievement. I can see that you was not using technique of “packing air”. I was surprised that professional diver didn’t tell you about that one. With that technique you could easily hold your breath for over 5 min. Great video.

Have you ever considered trying to learn how to throw a needle through a glass pane? I feel like that would be a really cool idea for you to learn how to do, it’s an ancient Chinese technique that is said to take years to learn and it would be really cool if you could try and learn it quickly
@ryanvallandingham2968

i saw i video that the needle dose not actually go through. It chips the glass on the other side of the pane and when it flies out it pops a balloon.

i never really thought about holding my breath underwater, i played water polo for 6 years in a very competitive area, and its a normal thing to be kicked and dragged under water with no warning, i tested how long i could just hold my breath underwater, i found i could naturally and comfortably hold my breath for close to 3 minutes before i even get the urge to breath anymore, bodies are awesome man.

I mean, as you learned from the video, everyone can do that, and the only reason we find it difficult is that normally our lungs breath at a faster pace. So all you gotta do is slow that pace gradually to let your body adjust to the slow pace

You're holding your breath wrong. You shouldn't be exploding with the air you hold. Fill your lungs up to full, not over-expanded. Also don't put any force or pressure on your internals (like "clenching") as that will increase blood pressure via constriction and cause those headaches.
That intro is amazing! I felt like I was watching a tv documentary of Bear Grills!
