How I Learned to Drift in One Day

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So you want to start drifting? Come along and watch my progress as I show you how I learned to drift in one day!
From my perspective there are a few options for those who are looking to get into drifting. The big three are:
1. Showing up to a local drift event with your own car
2. Signing up to a drift school with your own car (group instruction)
3. Signing up for a private drift lesson (with car provided)
In this video we are going to choose the third option for a number of reasons which I will cover in more detail from forming good habits, ensuring a properly setup car from the start, and quality one on one feedback
We start with slower speed slides in first gear to understand what it takes to get the rear end to step out and how to control the car in a slide. With practice I transition to second gear entries at 40-50mph and eventually use the hydraulic e brake
A few of the key topics this video will cover:
1. What is Oversteer vs. Understeer
2. Learning how to slide large circles (not a donut)
3. Linking Circles - Figure Eights
4. Preparing for High Speed Entry
5. High speed drifts with linked turns
6. Initiate the drift with a hydraulic e brake

I would love to learn, but I drive an auto. I can lock in sport and choose my gear but it’s still something I’ve never done

Great question. A couple things you will need to do first. Disable both traction control and stability control. Sometimes the latter can be difficult but will be required otherwise the car will fight you. Second, determine whether you have an open differential or a limited slip. There are a few ways to do this either on a slipper surface, doing a burnout, or jacking the rear tires up and spinning one. So long as you can do those two things you can start sliding around :)

Thanks! Definitely teaches you some good car control. My wife came in having never drifted before but was killing it by the end of the day.

Interesting video, and sick progress! I've now looked at 1:1 sessions near me. How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I appreciate you watching/commenting. This wound up being $1000 per person. Included basically 9.5-10hr of seat time, car, instructor, and 2 sets of tires :)
