@@farmerjeffsiewicki I'm at the stage of mulling over how much do I want chickens, wish I could just buy hens
Heat lamps can catch FIRE just from stirred up DUST.

Sure i have heard of that happening before. Generally the bedding is so wet from the manure that its not a concern. I have been doing this setup for thousands of birds for 7 years and havent had a problem yet. Knock on wood

Classic, 6.30 on the timer 🤣🤣🤣 you presented the most natural and realistic humane response. Thank you for keeping it real. As for the box, what size lamps did you use? as I'm concerned about setting my straw on fire.

Hah you caught that huh? I use 250watt lamps. 2 in each box for up to 250 chicks. I keep the lamps about 14” high to prevent fire. Wood chips or sand would be a safer alternative to straw but we havent had a problem. Knock on wood. What are u raising?
Howdy, what about for grown chickens? Any link on the particular lamp? Thank you

Do you use this in combination with your elevated brooder setup for a two phase brooding sequence? Or do you prefer to stick with one version all the way through?

I have used this with the elevated setup but ground level is to setup and maintain if you have the space.
This wouldn't work for chickens....they would tear that insulation board apart! You'd have to build it out of wood.

Have you used insulation board around baby chicks before? The will destroy styrofoam or foil faved boards but havent had any problems with polystyrene.

@Farmer Jeff Siewicki yes....and they peck at it. Sadly, they peck everything known to man!
