how I had a Japanese conversation in 6 months

Фильм және анимация

i want to run through a few things i think facilitated me learning conversational Japanese in a short time. There's nothing special about me per say so how did i do it? the answer is I found a very good course by someone who's spent majority of their life perfecting the art of learning and speaking languages. It's also stumbling across habit formation books and youtube channels that have changed the game for me not just on this journey but in most things i do in my free time so i thought i'd share- enjoy ! My japanese is NOT perfect. I make lots of mistakes and i don't sound anywhere near a native. But being able to form full sentences, think of replies in conversations or even have a dream in Japanese have been crazy experiences that i never thought i could do so i really wanted to share :D

mashallah , your level of speaking in 6 months is what i wished for but ive taken a different root , i was shot down a lot by wanting to use a similiar method to how you learnt japanese by so many people ... i kept getting loads of discouragement for not learning hiragana and katakana. Let alone kanji. im happy that theres a success story i can use to break down these people throwing about their ideology that u have to learn 2000kanji and be able to read in order for u to speak. i fell down the anki hole , constant memorization of kanji and recently reached 1k . i started learning about 7 months ago. i do feel like i have good listening comprehension however i cant speak so fluidly like you , i guess it comes with speaking practice. thats where my journey started i wanted to be able to speak. before i became influenced with that ideology that u have to learn kanji . i didnt care about reading just wanted to speak to people and be able to listen . it was demotivating and i lost some passion mid way these 7 months but i guess when i reached 1k kanji i saw that it wasnt a complete waste of time but it will benefit me long term and not now. My plan now is to begin practice speaking and force me to think what to say on the spot and not be a book worm that i have been. sorry for the long comment but your an inspiration and keep at it i hope you reach your goals : )

wow, i really appreciate this! it's so lovely to hear from like minded people and that kanji study is so impressive ! I completely get what you mean, traditional study is so mainstream, anything else gets shot down but we got this and wishing you the best of luck- you sound very determined !

Thanks for the video, you encouraged me to consider taking Olly's course. Regarding Matt vs Japan, his journey sounded different than yours, for me yours is lively and inspiring, you learned Japanese to go out and laugh with your friend and let the others see you happily, and this process encourages the people more than asking them to be locked in a room with four walls and keep studying forever. It will be nice if you will tell us about your way of studying Arabic too. I wish you all the best.

I’ve really enjoyed your language learning videos! They have been very inspiring. I am starting a Story Learning course for Italian. I’m wondering how you went about finding media to listen to for immersion outside of Story Learning?

Thanks for sharing. Did you only do the Japanese Uncovered course or also the Conversations course? Did you start completely from scratch or did you do any other study before starting the Uncovered course? Did you review vocabulary using something like Anki?

How many languages do you speak, how many are you learning, and how many do you wish to speak in the future? I speak 2 languages; English and Swahilli (which has a lot of similar words from Hindi and Arabic), I'm studying Russian and Chinese, and I wish to also speak French, Italian, Japanese, and German, etc. I've seen a lot of your videos today since I discovered this channel yesterday; I like your approach to learning and your commitment to not wasting time online. Your mom's reaction to you speaking Urdu made me really happy ❤

Hey Jannah! Really loved your videos. Very inspiring stuff, I have done the same for Russian - still thinking whether to invest in the new Olly R uncovered course. I did buy short stories in Russian book so I am listening and reading the book. Do you have instagram page? Love to follow your journey. Hopefully you will go to Japan and shock people with your japanese.
