How I Got The Thai Driving License (Pretty Easy!)
Getting The Thai Driving License - Driving in Thailand
My Thailand travel guide with over 250 Google Maps locations all over the country ➡ tinyurl.com/thailandguidekena...
You guys know, I’m about to start a big northern Thailand roadtrip soon. In order to start that roadtip legally I needed a Thai driving license. But how to get a Thai driving license? How to pass the Thai driving test? Is it easy? I went to a Chiang Mai driving school and completed all the tests and requirements that you have to pass to get you Thai driving license. Driving in Thailand is not that different than on your home country. However, you need the proper Thai license to do it legally. Getting a driving license in Thailand is also possible for foreigners, even on a tourist visa.

I am Ken Abroad, a full-time traveler traveling southeast Asia, currently living in Thailand, making Thailand travel vlogs. It is my goal here on this channel to visit every country in southeast Asia and bring you along the journey.
You won’t see much tourist places in my videos, I rather like to show the “real” sides of each country in my videos. Where do the local people go to eat? Where do they hang out? How do the locals travel through the country? Stuff like that.
There will be almost daily uploads on this channel, during the next months from Bangkok and Thailand. I will be traveling Thailand, showing you around local places in Bangkok or try lots of different Thai food. Join the journey if you are interested in experiencing Bangkok now and Thailand from a more authentic local point of view.

Getting the Thai national license seems to be the logical approach in your case.... Especially if you like going off the beaten path, a bike is pretty much what you'll use... Places like Phillipines, Indonesia, Laos.... probably more...so I guess it's a bonus .... Stay safe , ride safely & happy exploring.
When you driving motorcycle in Thailand . Please take care yourself. Safety first. I am Thai. I known on the road of Thailand quite dangerous. I look forward to see you have a good and safe trip.

Interesting how to see how it works in Chiang Mai. I got my licenses (car+motorbike) in Narathiwat, where everything is taken care of by the DLT itself. No practical classes like in CM but a few boring hours of listening to a guy explaining the traffic laws. In Thai. I didn't have all those costs either. No driving school fee and no address statement for 900 baht. I just used my work permit for proof of residence. Total for the bike came down to about 300 baht if I remember correctly. The car license was more expensive as I converted my international license and needed a statement from the embassy for about 30 euros.

I also got my motorbike and car license in Chiang Mai . Everything was done at the DLT . I didn’t have a motorbike license in the US so I had to take the driving test as well I now have a two year license , but renewing for 5 years this August

@@justinthaim8879 I have a yellow book and pink card . If not , just go to immigrations and get the letter from them . They should have all your information in the computer from your TM 30 . At the time I did not need to book online . However when I decided to renew from 2 to 5 years I went to Maehongson because I live in that province and it was so much faster as its way less crowded .
Congratulations Mr Forrest

Chiang Mai seems to be the worst place in Thailand for constant police checkpoints. Don't ride a bike there without an international license as a farang.

Hei Ken, If you're a licensed driver for both motor bike and car back home then you don't need to do all those tests. Simply rock up with your health cert, 150 baht, the officer will make copies of the documents and take your photo. There's an eye distance check colour check etc.. was pretty straight forward.
good info..

Hi Ken , congratulations again for passing the driving licence , that was quite fast process 👍 anyway...it's the right thing to do and by having the motorcycle license it will make the road tour easier without any hesitation in case there are roadblocks besides you can use in so many countries in SEA 👍 fantastic. Wow the result on the computer test was really good 47 over 50 😆👏🏻👏🏻 amazing and hope you enjoy riding and btw have you named your bike yet ?

Please always be careful when riding or driving , more so on motorbikes..always stay careful and do not push beyond limits in any course of road ,avoid slippery road conditions ..do not attempt on rainy wet , muddy or roads full of stones or grassy terrain..
Congratulations on getting your license.

here in the Philippines it is kinda hard to take a driving license & expensive as well .... you must attended 15hrs of theoretical driving lessons from any accredited driving school basic requirements additional requirements & we have 3 different kind of license here the student permit, non pro & pro for student permit w/c was only valid for one year can cost around between $20- $100 .... i don't know about the non pro & pro procedures & costs aaaaannndd that's why i never learned how to drive 😹💨💨💨

God bless you and your family
Great, informative video! The hotel you are staying at looks really nice, what is it called?

Congrata..consider to get license in all country u go
English language tip..... Drive a car or ride a bike. You do not drive a bike or ride a car. A car licence is called a driving licence, a motor bike/cycle licence is called a motor cycle licence. Is a bike licence the same as a car licence in Thailand? Thank you.
Hi Ken, congratulation on getting the bike Thai Driving Licence. I have just follow up on your video, it's informative and fun to watch. Btw, what's your plan on the big road trip? where about? FYI, another KZread Paddy Doyle is currently on a bike road trip throughout 77 thai provinces. Are you planning to do the same? Stay healthy & stay safe. Cheers!!!
This was an excellent video, by far the most informative video I have seen about getting the motorbike license, thank you. Can you get a license if on a tourist visa, or do you need to be a resident? I wondered, because you had mentioned using a hotel address. If possible I would like to stay 90 days on a tourist visa and get a license. Thanks!

Hiya Ken ....Das Ist Gut Herzliche Glückwünsche
Very good video thank you. If I take test and all is good. Am I able to convert the lisense for:- Cambodia? Vietnam? Laos? Or yes, how about India? Can it be converted for India. Excellent video, thank you.
Hi Ken just one question before going to immigration did you need to get anything from your hotel to prove you was staying there so you could apply for a certificate of residence only reason I ask is I was renting a house in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai 4 years ago when I did that part of the process of the certificate of residence I had to take my tenancy of the house I was renting. I don't have the house anymore but I do plan to have a long stay in Thailand in the future and as my first licence has expired first one only last 2 years I'm not sure if I have to redo everything again but everything you've said in this video is spot on and easy to follow which I'm sure will help many. Thanks again for everything you do and sharing your amazing experiences
like the glasses
did you need to prove your residence, a lease contract or similar for the residency certificate?
Hi. As a tourist, can you do it with a 30 days visa only? Or do you need a 2 months visa?
Do you or anyone reading the comments have recommendations for a driving school located in Bangkok? The ones I am finding don't seem to offer the same service provided to you. It seems like they only help with the preparation but you still need to take all the exams etc at DLT.
Hi Ken, great informative video. I was wondering if you have heard of people using or have you used the Thai licence to hire scooters in other Asean countries without a IDP and without paying fines to police (driving legally)
@KenAbroad
10 ай бұрын
I hired bikes in other asean countries with this license, but I have never been checked by the police. But the shops all said it's fine with this one
Just to others who have international drivers license, you can convert that to Thai drivers license also 😆 you don’t need to do any class😅. Also the thing is you need that thai drivers license only in the north until you outside of chiang mai. The rest no check point 😅.
Very interesting vlog. But can you drive any bike now? Like a 750cc ?? Cheers Ken
