@@NathanElson I just watched this video again after a friend mentioned doing a shoot with shutter drag. Appreciate you sharing this knowledge. Beautiful photo as always.
Just the little tip alone about orientating the gradient map with the direction of the light was great. Also how you use your dodge and burn layers was very helpful!

I was wondering if the flags on the modeling lights are covering the light source completely or only half of the light source... Thank you for giving me more confidence in shooting in the studio. I have used your technique in multiple sessions...
Thanks for sharing it is top

Love your videos! Quick question about Capture One - When setting Capture One up, where do you have your images go? Some how I messed that up and they were going to my desktop with different folders....
@NathanElson
4 жыл бұрын
I use sessions for every shoot, so I either create the session folder while on set and shooting tethered, then shoot to the capture folder, or if I'm not shooting tethered, I will create the session then transfer the files from my SD card to the capture folder within the session folder.
Hello, will you do an episode about the processing of a photo lit from above ?? best regards
Awesome photo and tutorial. Keep going on these. These videos are so great. Thanks for sharing. BTW: is that a 23mm or 35mm f2? Kind Regards.

Great vid Brother! Have you moved the majority of your workflow to C1? also, Hpw much movement with the camera in 2 sec exposure, looks to be only around 12" or so?
@NathanElson
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Movement wise it all depends on how wide you want the light trails to go. It’s all in whatever you want it to look like 😉
Hi Nathan, is the first time i see that the clean process (clean and d+b) is after the bw conversion. Now, i work the RAW in C1, then i send to PS for skin proces, and finally sent to C1 again to obtain the finals tones or colors. What do you think about_ what is the reason for your workflow? Tha is, sorry my english, i love your work! Greetings from Chile
@NathanElson
4 жыл бұрын
When I know the image is going to be B+W, I'll do the d&b / retouching after the conversion. Just something I've always done, but everyone has their own workflows, and if doing your conversions makes sense to do after your retouching, then by all means keep at it :)
Many thanks for an excellent video. You should seriously consider teaching that class in the largest North American Metropolis, Los Angeles. I have a request. What would you recommend, could be a book, a video course or any other bath that you know of to learn Capture One or Lightroom? Please advise.
@NathanElson

Honestly, just look on KZread. There is so much information on this platform for learning almost anything.
Awesome Front or rear curtain sync. I usually use rear but looks like you are using front in this video?
@NathanElson
4 жыл бұрын
I use front curtain because I want the framing of the portrait first, then the light trails. Harder for me to compose when the flash fires at the end of the exposure.
bloody brilliant Nathan. I didn't quite follow the trailing side of things very well (these are completely new techniques to me and I've never seen them in action, let alone print before). From what I could see, and I'm probably wrong, you had the shutter open for 2 seconds, and at the end of that, the flash goes off. Is that correct?
@NathanElson
3 жыл бұрын
I was actually firing the flash first, then keeping my shutter open and moving the camera around to get the light trails off the continuous light, but you could really do it either way in terms of firing the flash at the beginning or the end.
@davepastern

@@NathanElson Oh I get it, that's where the bulb comes into play of course. How do you set the flash synch speed then if you're using bulb? It's late here (near midnight, East coast of Australia), I'll re-watch the video sometime tomorrow. Thanks again!
The Einstein days! Good stuff man. Did you self teach yourself all this? Also, You ever think about switching to Profoto of Bron?
@NathanElson
4 жыл бұрын
Ya this portrait is 4 years old 😉 I’ve been using the Godox AD600Pro lights for the last couple of years and love them. Don’t see any real advantage switching to Profoto or Bron right now.
Question here. Are you setting a second camera to record video on every shoot? I also thinking about adding on YT (but in Polish) how I got this shoot, but during a photoshoot, I'm so absorbed with shooting that I do not have time to do any video.
@NathanElson
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I just set up a secondary camera that is recording the process. I don't pay any attention to it, because I'm to busy with the photography.
