If you are not conversant with the markets, I'd advise you to get some kind of advise or assistance from a financial/investing coach. It might sound basic or generic, but getting in touch with an investment broker was how I was able to outperform the market and raise a profit of $300,000 For me, its the most ideal way to jump into the market these days

Good job, Janice! A video like this would have been helpful to me and my DH when we were still in the States (2021) and waiting to apply for our VLS-TS long term visitor visas like yours that can be renewed each year. One small point - you mention a couple of times that once you are here in France and validate your visa online, that you wait to receive your “carte vitale”. These French terms are tricky, but the carte vitale is for the French health system and a resident has to wait until they have been here 3 months to apply for coverage, so it’s a different thing from the visa. The evidence of successful visa registration is a letter that is generated in your account (the one you create when you validate) that you can print to show you have registered. Again, great job Janice, I am sure you are making things easier for lots of people!

Hi. I am planing on moving to France like you and Janice have. Do you mind if I ask you a question? I understand that after 3 months of being in France with your long term visa, you need to validate it to get the residency that is good for one year and will need to renew in France for 5 consecutive years correct? The letter you mentioned…. What is in the letter? I hope I don’t need to prepare it in French? Help! Thank you and Janice for all your help. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience and tips on getting residency in France. Although the French (VFS) system seems complicated and ever-changing, it's actually pretty straight forward compared to other countries. Given the social benefits in France, it's understandable they would want assurance people can support themselves. I'm particularly interested in acceptable low-cost medical insurance options.

Thank you for including the insurance information. Under $500/year is much better than $2500/year like your friend who got canceled. Have you or are you going to apply to participate in France's state medical insurance coverage? Will you make a video about it?

Hi Janice, I enjoy watching your video and all the great information you share. Looks like you’re enjoying living in France. I travel there yearly usually the south of France, but I will be in fountainebleau the last two weeks of May. I rented a one bedroom apartment with a nice backyard patio I think close to the center of town and I’ll commute to Paris for shopping and dining with my French friends, who live there . You have to have your insurance and add address of where you’re going to live before you ever go to the VFS office to even apply for your visa, But you can always use an Airbnb address

Congratulations and thank you so much Janice for this very informative vlog. My husband and I love France are have been looking to possibly retire there. I have 3 questions if you don't mind: 1. If you have to renew Residency Visa each year is there a chance they could refuse renewal one year? 2. Have you had the required medical, if so how was the process and 3. Are you required to reside in the same Prefecture where you filed your initial application when renewal time comes back around? As you mentioned it is a huge step and nerve racking to leave everything behind in one country with some uncertainty about being allowed to stay in another. You are brave and I admire your fortitude. I don’t know anything about the taxes I have not been here long enough to pay taxes, but when I do, I certainly will make a video on it. What I have heard through the grapevine is that whoever you owe the the least is who you will pay. you don’t pay to both countries.

You pay taxes to the country that is the source of income, France has a no double taxation agreement with the US.

Hi Janice, great video! Lots of good information, thank you. My wife and I plan to move to France soon as we will be housesitting for three years for friends. For the documentation: Do the documents (pension/SS letters, bank statements) need to be notarized? Apostilled? When does the health insurance need to be purchased? Before the interview? What is the time period between the interview and receiving the visa (and your passport) Thank you very much.

First of all thank you very much for your kind words. No the documents do not have to be notarized. The three months of bank statements and your letter showing that you do have pension Social Security, whatever you need to show and your year of insurance needs to be given to the VFS with all the rest of the paperwork when you go for your appointment the time between going there and getting your passport back is about 10 days.

Glad you found a house. Did it have enough closet space and a good energy rating? I can't seem to find anything.

Hi Janice, I love your videos. One question about the residency. I thought you have to validate the visa after 3 months of having your long stay visa which will give you your residency. About medical insurance, I thought you needed to have medical only for 6 months which you can cancel after you get into the health system in France? Thank you for your videos. :)

No, you have to have insurance for a year because it may take you a year to get on their health insurance. I’m not on it yet.

No, I can’t all I know is if you want a bank account go with Wise the Wise transfer and use that as your bank and they will accept that here, but the bank account is a huge mess

I was able to get a French account with a French IBAN through HSBC. I think some municipalities are a little finicky on Wise because it’s technically a Belgium IBAN. France is supposed to accept any EU IBAN but I know often that is not the case and require a FR IBAN. I just opened a regular account not the jade account that requires like 75,000 euro deposit.

I've been reading up on it and is it true that you have to leave France (and Europe) for at least 6 months before you can get a 2nd Visa to continue staying there? Or how long do you have to be out of France (and i think Europe) in order to be eligible to apply for the next year's Visa. thank you in advance.

The only reason I had to leave is because I received a temporary visa by accident. Well, at least I think it was an accident. If you get a resident visa so that you can stay and you have to go through all the paperwork and all that you only have to renew it by email every year.

You don’t ask for a temporary visa you just ask for a visitor visa and they will determine with you get a permanent or a temporary. It is not up to you.

Hello. I’ve watched your videos and many others about what you need to present at your initial VFS visit to apply for first long term visitor visa. I understand that 3 most recent bank statements are required and insurance coverage and lodging . My question has to do with the other documents: such as birth, marriage and/or divorce certificates. Did you have to order newly dated/stamped versions or did you present copies of the ones you had on hand? For example, I have a certified birth certificate from my town hall that I requested 5 years ago just to have one for my records. Would I need to request another with a “newer issue date” as the VFS appointment nears?

No unfortunately one of the items that you have to have before you can apply for a visa is insurance. Some people pay $500 a year for it. Some people pay $1500 a year. Some people pay 2000 a year and it’s just until you can get on their health program.

Janice, I’m curious - does the residence permit restrict your travel in any way? Do you have to be in France a certain number of days during the year? Are you still subject to the 90/180 Schengen travel restriction outside of France?

Janice, I am wondering if you have a VTS visa as a retiree? I thought we couldn’t work. Maybe you have a different visa where you can work but it doesn’t sound like it. As I understand it, an online business like a KZread channel is considered working and is a violation of the 1 year visitor visa. I would love to know how you have managed this. I don't understand how the health system works there. Can you just retire there and then the French taxpayer is responsible for your health care until you die? Even though you have not paid into the system. What about long term care, memory care or assisted living centers? Is it all for free to all residents? That doesn't seem to add up for the system. Which must be pay as you go and retirees showing up is a real burden on the young. This is one of the reasons why the job market is so sclerotic there. Plus if you hire someone it is almost impossible to ever fire them. If you could not afford a ywars health insurance for $2500 , it seems that you have a small income but no assets or cash. This seems at odds with moving to France.

Well, the reason I didn’t have $2500 is you know I’m like everybody else I live from payday to payday, but the point of living here is I don’t have to live from payday to payday. I’ve never had a big stash of cash still don’t I don’t have any assets because I sold them many years ago. But to your answer about the health system yes but we do have to pay what we calling the states Plan B to the Medicare, which is not that much money but yes that’s why moving here is worth it for me not necessarily the healthcare system because Medicare is not that expensive it’s the other part of the living, the rent, the food, etc. etc. my rent is 1200 a month and that includes my water, my electricity my Wi-Fi. I have an elevator I have a private entrance there’s no way that I could have that in the states in a safe neighborhood for €1200 a month which would be about 1312, depending on the conversion each month.

Why do you need all those subscribers?
