Hi Rachel, in your other video, you talked about how you had many reasons for choosing DO over MD. This triggered my interest and I am wondering if you could do another video expanding on your reasons -- would love to hear them all! Would this be possible?! Please and thank you always for your videos :)

As an academic physician and someone who has interviewed prospective medical students, there is no mystery why she was admitted to medical school. Organic chemistry is the major academic obstacle. A great academic record and test results do not guarantee admission. This young woman has an appealing personality, superior communication skills, and candid about her life experience. I would expect her to be an effective and caring physician. Best of luck.

It's crazy to think so many people go straight from high school->college->medical school and all and enter the working world with their very first job ever as a medical doctor. There's so much you learn in your first few years of working about workplace politics, leadership, your strengths, the list goes on...I can't imagine having none of that experience before becoming a doctor! You also made a really great point about consistency, and I don't think I've seen a lot of videos mention that!

If you were somehow lucky enough to get an interview without any experience, one would have an awfully difficult time explaining why you weren't able to take a second out of your day, yet want to help people in the future. Setting yourself apart by doing something unique is great advice, but for someone just starting out, I just wouldn't want that to be interpreted as "volunteering is pointless." That's all. Rachel your prep to med school was SOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER than my path. Looking back my own path was pretty back asswards, LOL. Your vlogs are going to be very helpful to other students. There is a girl in the 9th grade that I'm trying to prepare for the college to med school process who I have shared a couple of your vlogs with. Great job!

By just watching the first two minutes of this video I felt such a relief and inspiration, most people will say “ohh you need to take a lot of ap classes, and need to attend a a university” and as a freshman at a university who’s also in pre med, I can’t emphasize how much this helped!!!!Thank you for this video.

I had a 3.7 and it dropped to a 3.0 by graduation and I was amazing with English but struggled with math. My ACT wasn’t the best. I tested out of English in college, but I took Elementary Algebra and failed it 7 times. I dropped out. I decided to avoid math. I was an Education major. I got my CNA, Med. Aide, and Activity Director and 10 years later, decided to go back to school. All my credits expired. I took 3 lower levels of math and aced them, but didn’t go back to school because I had a lot of bad stuff going on like a patient attacked me and I couldn’t do my ADLs and I didn’t have good ROM and I was raped and I was hospitalized with hemiplegic migraines, so I moved back home and I worked a lot and COVID happened and I was struggling financially. Then, I wanted to hit a restart and return to school and I’m finally going to try to work and attend school again and I want to be Pre-Med.

I think your gpas were perfect. You’re such an inspiration. I did well in high school, took a bunch of so classes, graduated with a weighted >4.0 gpa, did a college that did not push me the way I wanted it to. And was pretty burned out by the time I got to med school. And honestly struggled all throughout med school. I saw your video on how you honored your med school classes and that is awesome. I went to an MD school and was pretty burned out. Yeah it’s a long journey for sure.

For me I started with a 4.4 in high school, tons of AP classes and great SAT. Then went straight into a well-known competitive 4 year college as a neurobiology major. I completely overloaded myself with science classes and ended up bringing my gpa into the tank. I highly recommend doing community college and going to a 4 year that is on the smaller side and not very competitive. Your GPA is sooo important! I wish I knew this in high school.
