    Congrats! I love watching your channel. I started my Etsy shop in February and just passed 50 sales so I’m a ways behind you 😅 But I stay at home full time with 2 little kiddos so I’m lucky to get 1-2 hours a day to work on building my shop. My digital products are also pretty time consuming to create (planners, stickers) so this has given me some good ideas for listing some variations! My question is, will you always strive to put out a new listing daily? Or do you think you’ll be able to slow down once your sales are more established? I hear the daily listing advice a lot but I wonder how people balance that with burnout.

I got a doubt, so when you’re listing various versions of one single product say purple, pink and grey is all the of those products are essentially same ? Thanks for this video you gave me good ideas for my shop! I think my store might be at the point where it’s starting to look a little too “messy” I was trying to test things out without keeping the customer in mind at first, so I started off with wall art and then quickly changed my mind and then I have Instagram templates, bio links, church invite cards, I am working on a habit tracker… so I’ve been pondering on my customer instead of my product, and I think I want to make my store a store where business owners and content creators just entrepreneurs in general, can have templates that make their lives easier e.I the Instagram templates, and something like habit tracker, can also help with their busy lives ! But I’m just struggling on figuring out how to put that all together nicely without it, looking like it’s all over the place! I also want to do what you said not just hop into another product but changing the colours & the listing photos etc!

  • @whatshaesells

    @whatshaesells

    Hi! Yes my store kind of was like this too. I had templates for a bunch of different customers and wasn't staying cohesive. I think one thing to help your shop is consistent branding- so all your listing photos have similar fonts and your shop should have a cohesive color scheme, while also testing different listing photos. My shop is like this now where the listings are cohesive and it's in the space of "helping small business owners save time"

  • @RebeccaBancarz

Do you think as long as I keep the fonts similar and the same listing style it should be okay ?

  • @whatshaesells

    Congratulations on this huge milestone! I'm doing my best to get there too, your insights are incredibly valuable, and I appreciate you sharing them with us. Thank you! Quick question: what's your process like with a/b testing? I'm currently testing a different primary photo for a specific listing without changing anything else, but what I've noticed is that even though I run Etsy ads on the 2 listings that are virtually identical except for the primary photo, one of them always gets way more views. Also, what do you recommend doing with the listing that did not perform well? Should I delete it and risk losing potential sales from those who favorited it?

  • @whatshaesells

    @whatshaesells

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello! I do something similar- I usually will have 2 or 3 different primary photos that I test, but I will also vary titles/tags just to give them more exposure. Sometimes a certain combo of keywords will just take off when others won't. Then on future iterations of the product (like a different variation of it- different color/font/style, etc), I will favor the higher performing keywords from the first set. Sometimes I will use the exact same title, tags, etc from the highest performing listing on a new variation of the product. I haven't been deleting/deactivating too many listings, mainly because I think it's too soon and I want to give my items a lot of time to sell and get found in the algo. I have had some items that didn't sell well at first but then a month later start performing better for whatever reason

  • @salmaah6145

    @salmaah6145

    Жыл бұрын

    @@whatshaesells I see, but wouldn't changing multiple variables at a time make it hard for you to pinpoint what worked exactly? if the goal of the a/b testing is to determine which primary photo is best then changing the SEO will mess with the results.But still I can definitely see the benefit of playing around with multiple variables at once for exposure purposes. Thanks again Shae!

  • @whatshaesells

    @whatshaesells

    Жыл бұрын

    @@salmaah6145 Yes you're right, from an experimental perspective you're supposed to just change one variable at a time and keep the others the same, I used to do that with my listings but I felt like I was missing out on some exposure by trying different keyword combos as well. You'll still get good data on which keywords/cover photos do well. Up to you!

    Hi, it's great following along your journey as I just started myself this year as well. I'm definitely struggling through finding my niche + not being all over the place, but I feel I need to start by "being all over the place" in order to find what works. What are your thoughts on that?

  • @whatshaesells

    @whatshaesells

    Жыл бұрын

    That's a good question. I think there is a balance. You want to make a variety of items to test, but you don't want to jump around to different customer groups if that makes sense. If you happened to see my niche research vid I posted a couple of days ago, it explains it better, but as long as you do proper niche research to make sure your niche has good keywords & newer shops are making it in that niche, then I would stick with that niche/customer group. For instance I am selling templates specifically for small business owners, and although I am iterating and testing what works in that space, I'm not going to start making items in a completely different niche (like wedding templates for instance) just to try to test more things.

I've found that works fine and people will still buy my products even if there is a cheaper version that's not as good!

I was spending about 4 hours a day on Etsy- which I know is a lot and not realistic for most people- but I am down to under 3 hours a day and some days just a couple of hours. I am way faster than I was when I first started! The way I see it though, is Etsy has basically replaced the random things I was doing after work- like watching TV, so I might as well put that time into building the Etsy shop!

    Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉! I love to see your progress and to watch all your video. I have two questions, if you don't mind: 1) how do you keep your brand visual cohesive when you are testing with the listing? 2) regarding niching down, I have a specific audience in mind, however I want to sell different types of digital products, like digital planners, printables and audio, all in the same niche. Do you recommend this approach or should I create different shops in the same niche, each one for different digital products? Thanks a lot in advance! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

    Hello! I keep it consistent by having the listing photos/shop branding similar throughout. So similar layout, fonts, etc. I might have 3 different styles of listing photo that I test but I keep it consistent :) I wouldn't worry too much about each listing looking extremely similar- just make sure you have similar branding colors (like listing photo background/style) and that the products are within a similar niche. If you have a specific audience in mind, don't create separate stores. Create one store with all those products for that audience/niche :)

    This was great! I often see this working for digital products, but don’t understand how it’ll work for physical products. I sell handmade potting mixes, and many plants can thrive in the same mix. I struggle with trying to make different listings without having my customers buy the same mix over and over again by singling out each plant it works for in a new listing. How do you think these tips would work for physical product?

  • @whatshaesells

    @whatshaesells

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi! You’re totally right, with digital products/POD the competition is so high that listing consistently is a way to counteract that. But it’s not necessarily realistic for physical products. I still recommend testing out different listing images for physical products and being active in your shop every single day to help the Etsy algo. Also creating bundles and up selling is a valid strategy for physical products as well :)

For example, do customers ever buy 2 items, thinking they're getting something different, and then upset that it's the same item in a different color? Or does Etsy care that you have multiple listings that are nearly identical? Do you ever delete any of them? Thanks again for sharing your experience!

  • @whatshaesells

    Hi! Good question. Etsy totally allows you to have duplicates so it's not a problem in that way. I have had a couple of customers ask but it hasn't been a problem, as long as I keep prices consistent across the variations and am very clear with what I'm selling! I have had someone accidentally buy two bundles (a smaller and larger) and the larger bundle contained everything the smaller did so it was duplicated. So I just refunded them for the smaller bundle! I do think the benefits of this strategy outweigh any potential issues for sure though

  • @whatshaesells

    @whatshaesells

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi! Glad it was helpful :) the A/B testing varies so much because for me it is very data driven based on what products have already performed well for me. But when I am starting a new product from scratch, I usually make one or two versions of the product and test 2-3 different cover photos. Then if that gets sales/likes, I will create more versions/bigger bundles. So for example, if I was making instagram posts, I would start with say 25 posts in 2 different colors, with three different listing photos (so a total of 6 listings). Then depending on how these do, I would make larger bundles on what do well (like 50-100 post templates in a bundle), and try more colors or other variations.

    It depends… usually I will duplicate the title and tags that do well, but not the ones that haven’t gotten any search.

    Hi! I’m also starting my own Etsy shop for digital goods and I have one question. When you do your mock-ups right, when you crop the photo so it could fit the frame does that mean whenever a customer were to buy that digital product would it not be the correct size? One more question, how do you make sure you’re not using any copyrighted material? I’m not trying to put a lot of work into one art print come to find out it’s not for profit use.

    Hello! So for your first question, I don't know if that applies to what I sell- as I'm selling Canva templates, I choose the sizing (for instance 8.5"x11" or A4). The mockup images do not impact the size. That's a good point about copyright. You can search on www.uspto.gov/trademarks/search - this is what I use as it's for USA copyright. For me, I am designing everything from scratch and it's not art (it's templates like checklists, branding templates, etc), so there is less risk to copyright. I will check certain phrases or things, and especially common phrases in my title/tags. For POD and other digital art spaces, copyright is a much bigger issue so I would be checking basically everything on that website. I also make sure all my fonts, graphics, etc are for extended commercial use- either using what's in Canva or purchasing the elements themselves from somewhere that would include that license. Hope that helps!

    @@whatshaesells Oh ok that sums it up because I’m making wall art, so when I wanted to see how it would look on a mock-up it was throwing me off how I had to crop it to fit that mock-up. so I thought I wasn’t making it the right size. And usually for Canva most are copyrighted some aren’t but I believe it’s the free ones that should be good but the paid ones not, I might be wrong though.

    Hi! I don’t have an in-depth tutorial on this yet, but if you search “create a Etsy listing” in google or KZread, there are some great tutorials!

    Hi! Oh no, that is strange if your stats are showing. Are you talking about the ads section within Etsy or the stats on the dashboard?

    It is bad if we duplicate the same keywords in each listing when we double down ?

    I do that sometimes... So if I have a really great performing listing, I might use the same exact keywords when I make that listing in a different color. But another thing I do is just use the top performing keywords (based on the analytics for that listing), and try out additional keywords. If it's the first time I'm making the item and I have no idea which keywords will do well, I switch up the keywords at least a little bit for each listing, just to test out more combinations of keywords to find what works!
