How I "fixed" my broken Ember RV Sewer outlet. How-to assemble an emergency black tank outlet repair

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My sewer tube broke off when i was stuck in some mud. Rather than have the factory-rated fix, which I will likely knock off again, I decided on a lightweight "Breakaway" black tank outlet. This fix may not be the final fix for some, but this fix will keep a broken sewer outlet from ending a vacation early.
ADDED NOTE:
I am not so worried about gray since it flows slowly in my RV and I can hold a sewer hose at the broken outlet, if I have to, just fine. I was not clear about that in the video. This is why I think you only need to the black-tank outlet in your spare kit.

We live in a wonderful time where you can invite the whole world over to your house to look at your poop pipe. I was eating when I watched this because I don't want to miss a single episode of your show. I love this. Not just entertaining it's informative too. I got a craving for some turducken.

Thanks. Perfect 'quick fix' for a busted sewer piper which, as you point out, can happen if/when you venture off of pavement, and great idea to have the parts purchased proactively.

Great repair job Joe, I love your videos Basic and down to earth. Previously we had a similar problem and we fixed it with a trip to Home Depot because a phone call to the dealer said it was going to be over $500 repair. NO WAY. Till next time be safe and be happy. 👍👍👍

shite happens, good fix! ("....and doesn't look too ducktapey" Ducktapey should be the word of the day.) Perhaps add some kind of short string/cable to hold the new piece that gets knocked off so you can reattach it once you are safely parked?

I have been thinking of just going with an compost toilet then maybe linking the black/gray tanks together and using a garden hose when needing to drain. Just a thought. :)

Where are your dump valves located? Those rubber fittings are super reliable the only thing that may break would be the gear clamps. Good work Joe.

Be careful my friend all that twisting on the frame may cause you bigger headaches than you want. I know you have seen all the videos about Frame flex or frame failure hopefully you know a welder or better yet you never have it happen to you. I do have to say it looks like fun.

Agreed, however the Ember Overland RVs have the Trailblazer Chassis, a bit more beefy than the average frame. www.emberrv.com/story/trailblazer-chassis/

Looking at the floor it appears to be bulging out, what is it made from? Is water ingress causing the material to swell? Also, fascinated as to why your grey water and toilet waste are 'mixed' together in a Sewer Pipe, is this normal? In the UK grey water and toilet waste are entirely separated. Shower and Sink grey water is collected together in a Waste Container (40 to 50 litres) or directed to a drain on sites with such services. Toilet waste is normally collected in a dedicated cassette system, with a fixed real toilet (plastic and lightweight), with a 12vDC Flush Water System, and Toilet Waste collection for about 18 litres of Waste. Both the container and cassette are wheeled to a Waste Station on a campsite for disposal of the contents. In addition, Potable Water is also wheeled next to the Caravan/RV and a filtered collection pipe inserted in the container to pump into the heating/Shower/Mixer Taps system. Often with an on-board Cold Water Tank being filled to feed the Hot Water Boiler (and the Fridge/Freezer), which is Automatic Dual Fuelled, either Propane Gas or Mains Site 240vAC Electric Heated. The floor material of UK or European Caravans is normally at least 3" / 75mm thick hard resin impregnated foam boarding, which cannot suffer from Water Ingress. In addition, the Fridge/Freezer is normally three-way powered, Propane, Mains AC, or 12+vDC (normally 14 to 15vDC) direct from the Battery Charging Circuit, but this turns the Fridge/Freezer into a Cool Box rather than a Fridge/Freezer, automatically when the engine is running on the tow vehicle. Didn't realise that such Caravan/RV Services were so different across the pond.

@RVingWithJoe sure do wish you'd do a complete show of that frame, especially in rear, welds, bolts, rust, etc. I'm just curious if mine was just bad built on a Friday or it's a common un-notoced issue. And it's crazy to me why they use the expanding foam all stopped in instead of just using flex seal or some rubber mounted gasket. It just looks sloppy, and I don't see how that'll long term truly with stand anything. There pipe angles and general underbelly to me seems like a after thought, kindly a "whatever, however" feature. But hey... I drive a Chevy... what do I know? Keep up the great videos.

Hey Joe, got a question and though I might ask. I got a trailer that I use for transporting stuff at my work. It has a deep-cycle marine battery that is used to run trailer brakes, a tongue jack, and other accessories such as lights and an inverter off of a fusebox. I have had problems with the battery consistently dying after a few weeks of use and am trying to find an alternative battery that could be used. It currently has a deep-cycle marine battery which we recharge when hooked up to a truck. Hope you can help!

You have some options for upgrading your battery. You could always go to 2x 6V golf cart batteries run in series or jump to a LiPo battery. Golf cart batts are at Costco and LiPo batts are pricey. Are you sure your truck is charging it?

@RVingWithJoe I have a battery level monitor in the trailer. The trailer uses a 7-pin trailer connector and has a battery level monitor in the trailer. When hooked up to the truck for charging, the percentage on the battery goes up on the monitor. We have reason to believe that the battery isn't being charged anought. The trailer only makes 2 trips per week and around 40 miles of driving time. Have reason to believe that the battery may not being charged enough. Can't say for sure since it is currently dead and has acid leaking from the fill caps.
