Had mine done 2 days ago, I was walking on my own yesterday without sticks, this morning I’m in agony, decided to be a hero and get off the meds early😮, stay ahead of the pain with the meds is my advice 🙋🏼♂️
I’m glad I watch this because I’m getting my hip done in about a week
Had my second hip done five days ago and I was off the walker first day and no need for a cane. Today I walked for fifteen minutes outside and everything seemed to get better after the walk- No pain to complain about but icing the incision area to keep the swelling down. It 68 years old I thought this would be a tough recovery but for some reason it's actually healing faster than the first one I had done four years ago. So happy that nagging pain is finally gone, although I still have a lot of time before I'm 100% is't definitely worth doing at any age.
Mine is 4 and 5 years now. You will never be 100% but much better than before.
Had mine 3 weeks ago. Starting to go from the walker to the cane. Had huge bone spurs and arthritis. No ambition to do anything. It was time. I'm not a guy to sit home much and can't wait to get going again.

So,a walker IS needed for awhile. We’re preparing for my spouses hip replacement. We already have some mobility aids and trying to complete that before surgery. I suspected using the cane only at first wasn’t a good idea (getting him a good walker).

Had both of mine done last year, who in the hell are these people saying they were up and around without a Walker, cane or crutches a day or two after surgery. Can’t help but wonder if they actually had a hip replacement
very happy for this discussion
What a good doctor
I'm "scared" but my mind has turned the corner to get my left hip done in 2 weeks, attitude does a lot.

You're not alone. Two weeks from now, May 6, I'll be getting right hip replaced. Positive attitude is key. Good luck friend.

I had my left hip replaced. I'm in my 2nd month of recovery. It wasn't so bad. Takes time and PT to recover. Do the PT everyday.

@@barbarahanks6647it hurts the first few days but with a NICE machine Tylenol and baby aspirin it was all doable. it's been 6 weeks I'm totally off the cane. I've got some work to do to get back to 100% but... I FEEL FANTASTIC!

Can’t wait to have hip joint surgery
I'm in my 70s, was super active (skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, skating). The only one I can do now with any form of comfort is bicycling on bike paths. Thinking about hip replacement, but worried all I'll have left afterward is walking, due to fall risks in the other sports. I hope that's not so, but I miss being able to go for long walks, hike trails, explore new places, etc. I don't have that much pain in my arthritic hip, but the stiffness has become debilitating. Just going to the supermarket feels like a workout these days. Even though I'm in my 70s, 3/4 of my body feels like it's still 35. It's just that *# %^&* leg, which is like a ball and chain, that's holding me back.

Don’t be. OR staff are awesome people and they will take good care of you
They tell you no restrictions but that's not true. May take 12 months to recover. I'll never run again.

With the anterior approach?
He feels good because of the drugs

Honestly, I just had my hip replaced six weeks ago and I agree with you. Coming off anesthesia and taking the drugs made me feel great. The feeling was so good that I made sure I got off them as soon as I was able. I would advise anyone else the same. FYI I had anterior.
Yeah which approach? Why would you do these vlogs and not tell us the most important aspect? So this guy is pretty much my story as well. He is young for this at 52 though. Average age in Australia is around 67.

I'm not a doctor but can I chime in? I'm 8 weeks post-op. My surgeon did the anterior approach. It's in the front, but further out from your centerline than you might expect. They work between two muscle groups so they don't cut any muscles. The older method (posterior) required cutting muscles, which required a longer recovery time, and getting strength back in those muscles can take a long time, and may never be the same. In addition, the muscles they used to cut help hold the joint together so you have to be very careful that you don't dislocate the hip while healing (and maybe beyond.) The anterior approach - according to my doctor - has no restrictions (other than no bathtub, river, lake, ocean, or Jacuzzi for three weeks )while the incision heals. There are possible "cons" to go with the "pros" and hopefully your doctor will talk to you about it. It doesn't happen often but nerve damage or bleeding are possible. I came to with a numb spot - not too deep - below and to the outside of the incision. It has been slowly going away and is almost unnoticeable unless I poke that area. Even with that, I'm thrilled with the results so far. Like I said, I'm not giving medical advice, but thought it might be helpful to share, since I had pretty much all the questions most people here have. Oh, and I'm quite a bit older than this gentleman but it wasn't a detriment.
