So here is a complete video from my point of view and 13 years of experience of phantom limb pain management.
It’s a long video but if you have phantom limb pain or are interested in knowing more. I hope this video can help several persons with phantom limb pain. And please let me know what you think through the comments.

    Thanks for sharing your experience with us, it was a pleasure to watch. It’s so interesting how everyone’s experience is different because I was told over time PP should get better. Unfortunately mine is getting worse. I’m nearly 25 years an hemipelvectomy left leg amputee and like you, feel the start of pins and needles in my phantom limb all the time. Thankfully I get episodes of pain maybe once or twice a week, four time in one week once and that was doing to kill me, then sometimes a break of weeks at a time. It’s horrible and I have found that meds when the episode begins is the only thing that helps, so grateful I don’t take them all the time but they make me feel sick too. I would rather be sick than having someone stabbing at my leg I guess The more we share with each other the more we can help each other and I also hear that PP can be reduced by wearing prosthetics which unfortunately I cannot. But happy to see your ability to manage and reduce, just wish I could get some relief after nearly 25 years

    Hi and thank you for your great comment. I wish I could help more in taking pain away also for you. But I know that there is rechart with positive results on medication free treatment of phantom limb pain in the university hospital Sahlgrenska in Gothenburg, Sweden. Hopefully that will result in change in treatment with better result soon. Best regards/Christoffer Lindhe

    I am a bilateral below knee amputee. The right leg 2016 and left leg 2019. I have phantom pain often. I talked to a nurse friend about my frustration in controlling it and she mentioned biofeedback. Listening to you and not feeling quite so alone in this battle has helped. I will most definitely try your suggestion. Thanks

    thank you for the video, theres not much on youtube about it. im not an amputee but i struggle with chronic low back pain and in my opinion science should look at amputee people therapies as the basis for all chronic pain management and cure. the mechanism isnt different. in my case the body part is still present but my brain is creating pain and the cycle of increasing disorders that come. i think that a difficult part for chronic, not amputee pain patients is to accept the central origin of it and this can make the pain cycle stronger and worse over time. your "advantage" is that you are perfectly aware of the trick from the beginning. we have to learn from you guys, the techniques, the psychology of it. thanks.

    @@emiliecox5357 bless him that is absolute torture, especially when they come in clusters like that. I have met other amputees that have had their femoral and sciatic nerve numbed via injections to help numb the nerve pain down. The injections are normally done every 6 months (they follow the ultrasound to directly inject into the nerve) to keep the evil zapper phantoms pains dulled down. If you can definitely make sure to talk to his consultant about trying the nerve blocks or nerve injections. If he has a neuroma they can Botox those too 😉🦿🤗

    Once the meds no longer become effective (as they usually do), it really seems that as part of the rehabilitation process, amputees are taught the fundamentals of meditation and mindfulness. As a recent amputee, I'm definitely going to start "talking to my own brain" and shutting down the signals that it constantly wants to fire off. It's almost reassuring to know that the pain and discomfort we feel are just an illusion for the most part and therefore, something that we have a certain amount of control over.

  • @ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee

    @ChristofferLindheTripleAmputee

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, that's true. It can be controlled, the brain creates the pain and therefore it needs to fully focus on other things instead of the phantom arm/leg. Keep fighting and you will get there. 😊

    By the way, I am an incomplete quadriplegic and don't have a lot of sensation. and am getting a right hip disarticulation. I'm assuming quads not feeling a lot is along the same track...the brain can't receive messages past the spinal cord injury point. That would be in my favour, right? Anyone feel free to answer this question.

    I’m a left-ak amputee, secondary to a traumatic bk amputation in an auto accident back in 1995. I’m currently suffering through another bout of severe phantom pain which has now severely gotten worse after watching this video, as you said happens. I’ve never heard of this specific concept before, but it’s so severe right now that I’m having to pause after a couple of words to get it to calm down. Please, please, if you have specific techniques on how to get my mind off of the pain, let me know. I’m completely incapacitated whenever these bouts hit and it’s extremely frustrating! I’ve had iffy results with meditation and “mind over matter” in the past, as I’ve got a very insistent and argumentative inner critic that rejects ITS reality.

    Hi and thank you for your comment. Severe phantom limb pain is very hard to handle instantly, this concept takes time. But one thing you could try directly when the pain comes is heavy exercise or some thing similar that really requires all you focus. Because it’s the brain that is creating this pain, so the brain needs to be fully focused on something else and eventually (takes time) start forgetting about the phantom limb. I really hoping for quick results.
