The ultimate second monitor creator

Usually someone at least halfway listens to second monitor content. Essentially Josh is just a glorified Screensaver to them because they cant figure out how to stop their system to go to sleep.
@fiddleling

@@spackfettbemm6087 It is not that we can't figure it out, it is just that someone made this "feature" to fix another catastrophic bug at some point, but no one remembers why, how or when... we just now it is better not to mess with the gambiarra.

That sounds like a genuine example of "gambiarra"

Nope, never a "gambiarra", is always a "ajuste técnico"
That is 100% a thing to happen in Brazil. Guaranteed there's some sort of improvised fix on something that made the whole thing only work whenever there's a video playing and the second drawer from the bottom is open.

the second drawer is too specific not to be accurate

Sometimes, that's just IT in general. There's a story from ye olden days of computing, where a room scale computer would only run if a switch that was only connected on one side was closed.

As a Brazilian I wanted to say, thank you and say this type of solution is VERY brazilian, we call it "gambiarra". That is making a solution out of not standard stuff, it's not proper, but it works.

I would say the main thing that's not standard in this situation is the problem, not the solution. File transfer not working unless a screen is on?! Is that specific to Brazil too?
@tribes2archivist

@@rybiryj more likely that they don't know how to prevent the operating system from going to sleep. Chrome acquires a media playback lock when a video starts playing.
This makes sense - some organization settings can cause a PC to turn off or sleep when not attended, but these settings are often ignored while a full screen video is playing. Theoretically, you may be able to change this setting, but it may require a special permission from security team which can be hard to get.

Yeah, my work laptop goes to sleep after 10 minutes unless a video is playing so I use airport livestreams to keep it awake. So the aviation industry is propping up the renewable sector I work in
The gambiarra is strong in this one!
As a Brazilian flight dispatcher, thank you for your services. You have no idea how much we would suffer without this.
As a Brazilian, I deeply appreciate you saving our country.
Muito obrigado Josh
I used to work in Global Operations for a huge corporation's datacenter systems. You'd be surprised how often old systems like this are propped up by the silliest of things. Usually, it's because of regulations that make it difficult to get rid of old hardware, which I assume is also applicable to aviation. They find there's things that keep them working and it just becomes part of the procedure, because it would be way more difficult and expensive to fix. The other reason stuff like this persists will usually be because the person or people responsible for the system no longer exist, and the way procedure works, they'd need to be the ones to tell you to fix or stop a process. So, no one can sign off on fixing or ending it and it just goes on FOREVER.

Old software expects specific devices/drivers/libraries/etc from environment it's running on. With home pc it's just whatever, you just use win 11 instead of win xp, games will work most likely anyway but usually it's not the case for that specialized old mess. For example on my work we have woodworking machine, it runs WinXP. One piece of software which runs there can't use multi-core CPUs. Other piece of software will not work with net framework version it requires unless this version is certain revision. One of the devices in PCI slot which connects PC to machine may have IRQ conflicts. And that's just machine to make parts for kitchen cabinets, I can't imagine how it's in aviation or any other place where lives on the line. IT'S A MESS.
Whenever I fly again, I'll need to thank Josh for keeping me safe.
Its like Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" but instead of bricking laptops, Josh's voice soothes the machine spirit.

Number 1 Second Monitor content creator in Brazilian aviation industry
I believe this is enough grounds for us to say "COME TO BRAZIL, JOSH" I'd gladly have a few Caipirinhas with you xD
As a sysadmin, that's the kind of random anecdote I live for. It can join the hall of fame along with the 500-mile e-mail.
The reason for this is that windows considers "watching video" as you doing something, and as such it prevents the computer from going to sleep. I have too ran scripts for an entire week and needed to have something on the monitor for it to not stop. I did 10 hours of gandalf though.
"No no boss, our system actually require me to be watchin' these here youtube videos!"
Josh ditched Boeing and went to work for Embraer. This explains everything.
Thank you for saving our industry. I'll remember that this friday as I fly back home
Obrigado! For keeping the skies safe!
As a brazilian this feels so real. ~I remember a few years back working on IT we usually had to test computers for our clients, so while tests were running we would just pull up one of those 10hrs videos on YT and let it play the entire night...
Certified "Brazil Mentioned" moment
So basically he became a second monitor stream for an entire country aviation industry. If that isn't winning, then idk what is
Thanks for your services Josh.
Brazilian here... there are dozens of us, fans of Josh!
This is amazing. Josh's content is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
Prime second monitor content. I wish I had another one to enjoy it.
Thank you for that Josh!
Salute, Hero!!!
They should absolutely screen the Otherland playthrough on loop for that second monitor. It would be the perfect legacy for the greatest series ever on the most obscure MMO that has ever existed.
Thanks Josh for saving Brazil 🙏
Thank you for your service as a gambiarra in our aviation
As a brazilian I have another fun fact: brazilian aviation industry going well bodes well for EVERYONE. We are actually pioneers in aviation, the first proper airplane was made by a brazilian inventor called Santos Dummont. Currently, Embraer sells technology for Boeing, whom tried unsuccessfully to gobble it up multiple times. Civil aviation in the entire world relies on brazilian technology, and our engineering institute that focuses on this tech even has many joint collaborations and funding from the likes of MIT. The more you know.
Best bug ever, Josh doing his part to help Brasil
Mandou bem, Josh! Continue com os vídeos de mais de uma hora.
As a brazilian myself i can say that Josh also help with mental health of a lot of patients that suffer from depression and anxiety, namely me 🙏
Thank you, Josh
Having seen several "Aviation Disasters" episodes set in Brazil, this news does not surprise me. One of them involved a pilot setting off in completely the wrong direction because the written directions had an extra zero, flying three hours west into the jungle instead of north toward the intended airport, and then it stunningly not going well.
Thank you for saving my country
Thank you for your service 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Finally, second monitor content saves the day!

Literal second monitor content saves Brazilian aviation. Brilliant.
Josh is the second monitor god, he shall save this world one second monitor at a time.

As a Brazilian i feel obliged to say, JOSH COME TO BRAZIL!

So Josh can be sure that his videos will run constantly at least one computer in Brazil ad infinitum. He has achieved temporary immortality...
As a brazilian I can say with confidence that this sound something that would happen here if something is not working correctly, we will find the most insane, mind boggling solution that in no way should work, but somehow does :3
I regret searching that Josh
Welcome to Brazil Josh, here's your's "dar um rolê" pass
The guy’s boss: We need something to constantly play on our second monitor. The guy: I know what to do
I'm Brazilian and can't say much about aviation industry, but can guarantee that the worst MMOs and the Plays series have kept me awake during several home office days, thus in the name of local accounting firms, I thank you for your services as well.
Sounds like that could happen here in Germany aswell. I guess in the end its only a borked energy saving setting that puts the computer in standby.
The basics of Engineering: If it's stupid and it works it isn't stupid.
Peak second monitor content reached.
You should come to Brazil!
As a brazilian, I'm flabbergasted
As a brazilian I can confirm it, this is common knowledge here.
Gambiarra if I ever seen it
As an IT guy i can confirm I've played long videos to prevent systemss going to sleep overnight before, especially when power saving is being wonky 😂😂😂
Unexpected crossovers
A man of many talents.
Josh Strife Hayes > Windows energy settings.
Ta bom, parou. Quem é esse gambiarreiro? Precisamos saber! Apareça, senhor. 🤣
You know I honestly didn't believe it, so I googled what Josh told us to, and can confirm with 100% certainty that I am in fact scarred for life
It's not uncommon to put a computer on sleep mode when it's not in use. Especially laptops to save battery life. But on something like a server it should be disabled. Probably some corrupted OS borked that setting.
PLEASE COME TO BRASIL
If the story is true it is likely that having a video open prevents a power-saving 'feature' from activating. It wouldn't be the first time that a computer going to some level of sleep would mess up the system.
From second monitor to server monitor content
Come to Brazil!
On one hand, the streams are funny and fun to watch. On the other hand, it spoils all the clips.
True second monitor content.
That is so good
Brazilians are some sick quake gamers
And this is also why anything over Windows 7 is a liability. "Windows will reboot and there's nothing you can do to stop it." Sorry Bill Gates I'm not buying Enterprise for every POS for the edging case I have to robocopy mission critical data over slow satlink especially when a problem you created can be solved by having Caramelledansen playing on repeat
Josh and my country in one video?
