Thanks so much for being real with us! That sounds like an impossible position to be in with all of your jobs/passions pulling you in different directions. Hawaii vacation this summer?? How exciting! 😎 Loved the transparency in this video, and I think it’s really helpful to share how much you make while also talking about how you’ve been managing this type of work load. You work a ton, still not sure how you manage to stay sane!

Ha! I was in a similar position to you a few years ago, trying to put together that "safety net" around me. Then, I realized that "less is more". If you can't take a break and care for your mental and physical health, all the money in the world doesn't matter. I would only concentrate my effort in stuff I love (like you phd) and one thing that I enjoy and pays very very well.

Thank you for this amazing video. Just remember to start with yourself - and be kind to yourself. You are not missing out. You're so so so so helpful - thank you for everything that you do, and trust me you're amazing, talented, brilliant, generous, and compassionate - these are incredible skills. Finish your PhD and there are so many lecturing positions in your field as it is only growing, there will be book deals for you, and a business that will scale exponentially if you want it to. In the meantime, enjoy yourself and be kind to yourself.

Hey Ciara, I have been following your channel for over two years now. As a fellow PhD student and content creator, I really appreciate you for being so honest and speaking from your heart - it really is such a brave act, thank you! ❤ Don't worry about the gap in posting on socials, we will be here for when you are back. Focus on managing what you have in your hands right now and and making progress to creating the life you want to have. I know everyone rages about "financial freedom", but recently I came across the concept of "financial security" - the security you feel for knowing that you can make money to support yourself. I thought that was so nice, because I was trying to make and save a lot of money to feel more "safe" as you said, but really that is just a number in the bank account and it mean different things for different people or at different points in life - so it is hard to find comfort in that. Instead, having the confidence that I can make money and everything will be fine was so freeing to me. I hope this helps =) Sending love, Mari

You could hear the weight on your shoulders through this video - it sounds like a struggle for you right now (for the last year? I've been worried about you approaching burnout for a while now!). This was a really informative video about income but has a deeper, more thought-provoking message within it about taking care of ourselves and how sometimes the balance of supporting ourselves financially can come at the expense of taking care of ourselves mentally. I've been there myself and its always hard to figure out what needs to go in order to free us of the pressure.

You're doing the right things for the right reasons - keep going until your inside voice tells you otherwise! Throughout my 20s and early 30s, I took a similar approach. I worked really long hours by doing multiple things at the same time. I built up enough cash base to set up long-term assets and passive income, so, now that I'm in my late 30s and a married person, I can now afford to quit my full-time job and go apply for PhD programmes.

Girl, you sound burnt out! Even your tone in this video seems very different. It's hard being under that much amount of stress. I am in a PhD and also trying to run a freelance business on the side and it's so difficult. I would suggest prioritizing downtime. I totally understand the financial stress of going through a program that doesn't pay very well (mine is around $1700/month) and trying to survive while the whole world is going through inflation and everything. I think talking to your therapist about a scarcity mindset (something I am working on too) might be helpful. Ask yourself what is the most important to you. It sounds like you want to prioritize lecturing. You know what's best for you. But definitely try to prioritize rest. We all need it to get through this thing. Best of luck to you!

It's liberating when we stop being overloaded. Believe me - for the last 5 years I've accumulated 2 really demanding jobs. It ended in December and I'm enjoying so much the freedom to do other things that also bring me joy. However, it's also addictive. We know that we are capable of doing more and so we keep doing it. I dying to figuring it out my next project. I totally get you. My suggestion for you is: if the business is stressing you out I would suggest you negotiate it. It doesn't mean you need to step aside completely. But think about getting an operator doing most of the hard work so you can focus on the tasks you are really essential. Also, never underestime that anxiety feeling. That's our emotions communicating with us and we all should respect that very much. Best of luck!

You sound like me. My suggestions are: Clickup for organization, budget, work on being debt free (no debt the less money you need to survive), if you health fails, you can't work and less money coming in SO rest and listen to your body. ;-)

Delegate what you can to ease up time. Sounds like the lectures will also help your KZread in that it’s a skill that crosses over. No matter what you do and how you deal with it you only have 16 hours or so a day before you are having a diminishing return. Sounds like you are not wasting your time. Make a list of things you can have someone else do that might give you back a couple of hours each day to have breathing room to reflect on the things that stress you out. Get that bullet journal out and clear your concerns. Good for you. I don’t know what it’s like to be that spread out but having a child to take care of has given me some perspective and is starting my journey in intentionally and time management processes. Thanks for the info.
