I’d say keep them as an ice cream truck combined but make them The Odd Couple. Skids is the neat and tidy intellectual and Mudflap is the lazy slob.

To be honest, my personal rework of The Twins would actually have them based more on G1 Skids. By that, I mean I’d make them a duo of Forensic and Cultural Anthropologists. Skids would handle the forensic stuff (and be blue) while Mudflap would attempt to study human culture, potentially with a G1 Jazz or Blaster sort of personality.

In Sam's defense regarding Bumblebee, he does later say he doesn't like the idea of him being cooped up in his garage all day, even telling him he'll always be "his first car", emphasizing that he does care for bee. If he truly didn't, he'd just call him "my car" and not care. Also he shooed him back in because whether it was bees fault or not, destruction was caused and SOMEONE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD MIGHT SEE HIM IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. The transformers are still relatively a secret and should be kept as such Rant over. This was a very good video though and really does have better ideas for the twins

E-Hobby actually did release G1 Skids and Crosscut repaints in Bayverse Green and Orange, I hope we get a Legacy set. The Mudflap one was named Screech where as the green Skids was presented as an alternate universe version of him

My "Fixed" version of Skids and Mudflap are just Sideswipe and Sunstreaker with the personalities of the Weasley Twins.

"They're the same guy in two bodies." Oh man, there's a headcanon idea, given the ice cream truck form. That would have made them really interesting.

being "consistently o the right side of history" is jist being a current thing supporter and a heavy bench sitter in most cases. its just being safe and compliant. its not exactly hard.

RandomBlackGamer has a theory that these two are the reason to why Jazz hasn't appeared much in Transformers Media, and honestly I gotta agree. I feel that Hasbro is very cautious now thanks to these two, and that has led them to letting go of Jazz as a main character, which is unfortunate, as Jazz is one of my favorite Transformers characters. Also Deep Wang is PEAK, don't lie lol.

As long as they stick to Jazz being played by actually black actors, I think they could use him without it being a problem. FOC dropped the ball with that, unfortunately. It SOUNDS convincing but yeah that guys not black. I know Dot’s actress from Earthspark is interested in playing a fem version of Jazz, an idea the Cyberverse team similarly had, and I do hope we can see that idea brought to fruition at some point.

​@Cdr2002 as long as the person has SOUL, that's all that matters to me to stay true to the character. Again, to me. I personally thought Troy Baker did a good job in FOC, though I still prefer Scatman Crothers and Phil LaMarr's' voices in G1 and Animated respectively.

Troy Baker imo was acceptable once. I do not want to see another white in the booth as this character again, and I’m sorry if that offends you.

I was expecting this to be a joke video. One screen with you, raising a single eyebrow. The other, a mushroom cloud filling the screen with the a roar of destruction. When the shock-wave hits you say "fixed", followed by end credits....

Reminds me of one of my favorite Simpsons quotes "Honey, the crows weren't racist. The people who drew them were".

I'd keep them as the Ice Cream Truck, since the idea of two Robots combining into a single vehicle is something we only see with them and the Micromaster Combiners. Furthermore I would lean into it, the Twins are in fact a combiner in robot mode as well, in fact it may be left ambiguous if they were born as two linked bots, or if they were a single transformer who split into two somehow (I'm not sure if it would be possible, but if it could be, then the figure should be able to transform directly from combined vehicle to combined robot mode) with the combined form being a combination of the twins character traits. Something I recall from a fan concept of the twins in animated was that they both had one sense missing (which to an extent works with the idea that they are one bot who split in two): Skids is deaf while Mudflap is blind. I'm not sure about characterisation, but then your ideas there mightwork.

Only other time I'm aware of that it happened was Chewie and Han each becoming a separate half of the millennium falcon.

As I recall it was claimed that the core idea of Skids and Mudflap was that they loved Earth culture but were a bit clueless about it was actually supposed to work. As a concept that has potential. If you buy that it wasn't just a hasty excuse made up after the fact that is. So to fix them in three steps. Step 1: As TJ said, remove all the racist caricature nonsense and burn it. Step 2: Establish that their enthusiasm comes from a genuine wonder at humanity's cultural diversity. Step 3: They can still have comedic misunderstandings. But have the more mature characters around them use their misunderstandings as teaching moments to help them become better bots. As part of step three have all the misunderstanding jokes reviewed by a cultural sensitivty expert before going into the final script.

I predict that the next shout out that TJ will do will be “Fisto Shaft”

My distaste of these characters was not from their onscreen appearance, but from how needlessly complex their toys were for 9 year old me that ruined their onscreen appearance My 9 year old justification: “how can I enjoy the character in the show if I can’t even get them into robot mode?”

I would write Mudflap as a scholarly gentleman who speaks in Shakespearian English, while Skids is a machiavellian mastermind who occasionally speaks in rhyme and sounds like Goofy. Mudflap is the only one who can keep his brother at bay from learning Power Word (cease life force rapidly), taking control of the autobots and/or conquering the universe. The duo are capable of great good, but also great evil. Mudflap always finds a way to undermine brothers schemes just in the nick of time, but skids almost always is planning something 5 million steps ahead. They are rivals, yet brothers (karamazov) to the very end.

i think you're overestimating the amount of work that went into this movie

I would use them in like a future set project. Sideswipe lost his brother years ago and he’s now that grizzled type character we see him as, until he comes across 2 young bots. A set of twins that were even more trouble than him and Sunstreaker used to be.

I think Sam should have shooed skids and mudflap into a doghouse where they would’ve stayed for the entire movie.

Stereotypes exist for a reason; be they racial or narrative or cultural. Utilizing stereotypes as one or two *_FACETS_* of a character is fine and can add some depth or comedy depending on the writer. It’s when you take those stereotypes, crank them to eleven, and make that the sole point of a character that it becomes problematic. Here’s an example of how including a stereotype could have been a boon to Skids and Mudflap: perhaps speaking in something akin to jive-style slang or in a rhythmic rap-like manner is similar to whatever dialect they spoke on Cybertron, and using the Earthling version reminds them of home. Or, sticking with the rap angle, maybe the sound of the genre is similar to Cybertronian music; and to keep the joke potential, you could have their actual literal car grills be coated in gold paint, because they don’t realize that “grill” can be slang for one’s face or teeth. There are ways to use stereotypical traits in such a way that it’s not blatant shock humor meant to be offensive.

Bayverse is the covid of this franchise.

It's more like the Prequel Trilogy of Transformers. Which is to say, it's incredibly poorly written, has incredibly flat characters and dialogue, performances range from good to just terrible, all of the good memories come from action sequences rather than the writing, it's a lot more bigoted than most people want to admit, and people will defend it passionately because they watched it when they were little.

For example, you've no doubt seen more than a few movies wherein the theme is bigotry, and how it's awful. They typically have a bigoted character standing in for this idea. Think Mandroid from Earthspark or that one politician from X-Men. Now compare this with a movie that is deliberately racist, without acknowledging or demonizing its racism. ROTF is a good example, so is Dumbo, Aristocats, a lot of older movies where the characters are just cruel or stereotypical because the writers couldn't hold back their prejudice. They aren't going to say that being racist is bad, because they don't believe it is. They're not villains to be defeated, they're straw men to be booed.

Actually...if they were figures....how would they be packaged? 2 seperate or together? For the icecream twins,its together,but for their standalone figures (and most likely the DOTM ones if they ever did those too),how are they gonna be packaged?

I like your version wayyyyy more. You should try submitting scripts to studios. One thing I might change is the railgun. I won't make it exist in the movie at all. Simmons can have his hero moment by helping out Bumblebee and the Twins take down Devastator. With the railgun, it's just another "F*ck yeah! US military!" moment that the franchise is rife with. But overall, your version would have made the movie 5 times better.

here's how I always felt about them, I was fine with them not knowing how to read a really old language, and even the idea of the delivery in the sense of it being a "dont look at me, I dont know how to read that," but I enjoyed the slapstick they were apart of. I didnt even mind them during the first act of the movie. But theres too many problems with them, everyone knows the problems. But them being slapstick characters that were competent in a fight but bickered alot was fine. Hell I dont even mind the gimmick of picking up a personality trait based on what they liked on the internet.

i think it would be interesting if they stayed a combiner in vehicle mode and then we also give them a combined robot mode as well since they are on the smaller side

They were mentioned in season 4 episode 3 of The Boys.

The Pyramids of Giza are fairly close to a very important global trade route, so it's reasonable for there to be battleships in the general area. Naval artillery can go pretty far, a super scifi gun could probably go even further. I you don't want the scifi mcguffin, conventional ordnance from carrier aircraft or just missiles from almost anything might do the trick. They would also have the same requirement of keeping Devastator still.

At least the ice cream truck thing was pretty funny. It's just a shame about, well, their everything else.

Does anyone believe that there is a chance to make those two into studio series figures in my opinion no.

G1/IDW skids and Cybertron mudflap are better versions

I honestly preferred them as the ice cream truck duo-con. It was something a lot more interesting.

What’s weird is that in the 2007 toy line there was a Yellow Crane Truck named Mudflap who was a Decepticon. Look over in the 2009 toy line Mudflap is now a small Orange Car who’s a Autobot.

The orange one, can't be bothered to learn which is which, is so cluttered and messy, I literally cannot make out his head.

0:55 honestly those two really started my rift between me and my dad, I hated their personalities ( or lack thereof) and my dad loved their humor so yeah I got personal beef with these two, however I would love a repaint of Legacy Skids in Movie Skids' colors just for a laugh

I would have Skids be a theoretician like his G1 counterpart, but keep the 'ghetto' manner of speaking*. Mudflap would be his lab assistant and the only sane man whose job is to basically help Skids and sometimes Wheeljack in their experiments and keep the two from blowing themselves up when they work together.* Oh, and Devastator gets taken down when Skids notices how Devastator's movements are quite uncoordinated and in conflict, indicating a fractured mind (thanks to the Gestalt process) and he and Mudflap taunt the individual components to cause the Constructicons to mentally infight long enough for the railgun on the ship to plot a firing solution and take Devastator out. * Well, it would be funny if the robot who talks like the sterotypical 'uneducated Black' person is an accredited scientist. Kinda like the whole 'never judge a book by it's cover' thing. *Since well, experimental theories and an engineer with a reputation for inventions blowing up are a very volatile mix.

How do we fix these characters? Don’t watch the movie.

I kind of write of Skids and Mudflap's personalities the way I do Jazz: that's the signals they picked up and thought it represented humans. Not that I disagree with the assessment, and maybe it's due to being outside that stereotype (being a white dude). I just have so many issues with this movie that I can't write off that one I can doesn't offend me as much as maybe it should. The whole Bumblebee talking through his radio thing was because Bay really loved that gag in the first movie, so he unfortunately brought it back. Then it shows up again in the aligned continuity (replacing the radio with beeps) and the radio returns in Cyberverse, except when both of those dropped it they stayed dropped. Personally, I never want to see it again.

I still like ROTF in spite of its flaws (the Twins included), but I think the unfortunate way Skids & Mudflap turned out is due in part to the 2008 Writers Strike - not so much Orci & Kurtzman (I think their final pass on 2007 was fine but I'd want to read the versions prior to the final), but I think Ehren Kruger just wasn't the best choice - especially with how much he got away on DOTM & AOE with O&K working on Prime and apparently getting people who cared about the series (or even a competent guiding hand like Spielberg) was too much to ask for; which leads into the casting of Reno Wilson as Mudflap (and Tom Kenny as Skids to a lesser extent) coming off as racist; I think they did an OK job given what they got and I can believe the chemistry of twins who know enough about each other but not to not get personal/emotional things override reason when the moment needs the latter (Bee being the Moe to the Twins' Larry & Curly knocking their heads in being appreciated on a few levels); and for the designs, I think they're fine (bar the lips on Mudflap, I'm sure the boys at ILM had no ill intent, especially with Devastator being such a prevailing nightmare among the other demanding CG work) being lopsided mirror-image scamps vs the the decidedly more "G1 Hot Rod or Hound" vibe about Bumblebee's direction - I liked both the solo & Duobot jalopy ice cream truck toys, and I think if we don't have much left for the older movies in Studio Series, it'd still feel off to not have the Twins get some sort of mulligan or other redemption in SS or any future shows or movies (like how Scrappy Doo has been similarly barred from any real redemption or new take after a bunch of grouches got mad at that character for things outside Scrappy's control, but I digress) I totally see where TJ's coming from and I get his take, just I feel someone has to be Devil's Advocate for characters like these two and I'd want to see them get a second chance of some sort - especially since the cavalcade of bad luck for Mudflap has vastly overshadowed Reno Wilson's *_excellent_* effort here given the cards dealt as well as being a highlight of the first film as Frenzy, and I hope he gets to have great roles in future

Young but inexperienced and not necessarily too bright, but stripped of racist looks and mannerisms could have worked pretty well. I think that’s more or less what the Titan comics did.

Reno Wilson said in an interview about the twins "I didn't know I could be racist against myself." There are a lot of problems with the twins. If you don't find them funny that's fine, I can agree with you there. They're annoying. But calling them racist is like calling Bernie Mac racist for his portrayal of the car salesman in the first movie. I don't partically like his style of humor and you could also call him a bit of a stereotype but Bernie Mac just be like that though. It's only racist if you associate it with race and dislike it solely based on race. If you don't see race and it's just not a style of humor that vibes with you then how is it racist?

I always figured a great way to remove the racist tones of them without having to change their personalities and roles for the film too much would have been to instead make the Cybertronian hillbillies

The fact that Jerry wang gets lumped in with Romeo and Juliet law and enemy scrotum makes me cry inside

Maybe make the trans metal to Megatron arm conversion similar to how the arms would convert by the twins

I remember liking Skids more than Mudflap because in the scene when trying to find the matrix and the two of them throw down. Mudflap was complaining about the humans, Skids jumps to their defense that without Sam and the other humans. They wouldn't have killed Megatron in the first film. Were they over the top? Of course, but they still had a few entertaining moments. WOULD I have preferred Sunstreaker to be there with HIS twin brother Sideswipe and see Jolt get some more screen time. ABSOLUTELY 💯 💯 💯

Skids and Muflap should have been better characters in ROTF, I don't think they were that bad, but bad enough for Bumblebee to smash the two of them into each other! They get on everyone's nerves, that much is clear. Strange that they ended up facing the biggest Transformer of all: Devastator! In the DOTM graphic novel, they had a heroic death when Sentinel Prime killed Ironhide, the twins tried to fight Sentinel, but suffered the same fate as their fallen comrade. Michael Bay should have kept his strange sense of humour for something else, I'm sure he got some backlash over this. Not to say that his movies were bad by any stretch of imagination. I liked them for many reasons.

I never viewed these two as intentionally racist but more as a Beavis and Butthead sort of duo. They're idiots and their whole personality and identity was taken from what they discovered through earth media. I'm not saying it's good by any means, they're easily my least favorite characters in transformers media and maybe media in general but i do think i understand what they were going for

Mudflap's VA Reno Wilson certainly saw no issue with how they were characterized. Honestly everyone is just blowing it out of proportion because of their own feelings.

I think they should change their names to Touch and Power.
