How I Created a Cage-Free Environment for My Birds

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I never believe in cages but more on freedom. You wouldnt lock your dog or cat in a cage all day until you're home? So why your parrot? I try my best to give them the space to exist but that also involves a lot of change on my part. Its worth it to see them thrive, be happier and trust and bond with me so much more. I have adapted to these changes and understood id need to sacrifice things.
Please keep in mind that there is a time when this can be done, and times where you need to accomplish some things before doing so.

my birds love their birdroom. they do stay in the cage at night and when we go out shopping, dr's visit, etc. when i retired 10 yrs ago i was able to spend more time with them. they get out of the cages when we're awake and pretty much come and go around the house as they please. they love it that way.no ceiling fans running when there out or any hazardous situation, i leave their cage doors open thru the day so they can eat, drink and potty.

Not on everything like you might think but yes it involves more cleaning like I see. Cleaning up poop is just part of the job as bird owners anyways and part of our job it to give them the most liberating life we can as they are meant to be free

@@RazorbackRedahaha sadly movies arnt the reality. Glass enclosures they cant get fresh air, gets stuffy, can overheat, theres no air flow, they can bang into the enclosure walls, theres limited space to move around or climb. Its also good to remember that birds arnt decoration or fish in an aquarium. Their needs are super demanding and different :)

I am currently letting my lovebirds fly outside of their cage for a few hours. However, they do poop anywhere. Does it stain or damage the furniture? Most of the time I wipe it off right away, but sometimes I find it later during the day.

Vinegar and hot water spray will be your friend ☺️ Here is my video on cleaning poop off any surface in case you need it, but basically let it soak in the solution if its old then it wipes right off. If its carpet or fabric itll be different. kzread.info/dash/bejne/loubudp-Y8uplsY.htmlsi=Vt-bPLuZYrXMww1x

I really want this video cuz soon i will have my own room or you can say my parrots room 😅i am working on this room by creating diy toys, rope perches for them 🤞 also order the net and install in their room as i am getting them used to that room so they will not feel uncomfortable i am just concern about their food if they just eat enough while out all day then its really best for me. Thanks for your wonderful videos❤ Now my parrots are out of cage after their morning meal, then they take a nap in their cage sometimes out too, then they are just outside until their sleep time 😊 Plz feel free to tell me if i am doing something wrong 😇

We're doing exactly that - renting a corner of our living room from our three birds - a 9 year old male parrotlet Chizhik, 1.5 year old female Canary-winged Parakeet Shura and 7 month old female White-winged Parakeet Chica. Our parrotlets also had open cages for the last 25+ years, only sleeping in a cage. Now with 3 birds it's way more difficult, noisy and messy, but we continue the same practice. (We've been working from home since COVID times.) Having the dedicated bird room would probably be easier, but it went the way it is ... Birds are so attached to us and want to be nearby all the time. I also put extensive playground areas around. Yours look great.

Hlo! I am having a prblm with pellets, i mean they are finally showing interest in zupreem pellets but it seems like they are not able to break the pellets and just drop it, they do try everytime but most of time it got drop. What should i do in this condition 🤔 and yes they know that it can be dip in water but they don't quite like them that way .

  • @mimisbirdhouse

So theres a few ways, it happened to my birds at first too. I let them at first just attempt it everyday. If there was no progress then I would manually quickly dip it in water and put it in their mouth everyday and it was a little bit of handfeeding at first. The other option that I started with until they got more used to breaking it was getting the smaller size pellets, those were easier to break for them :)

Majority of the poop is isolated in their area that I showed, when I let out of the room then the stairway rail, and the window frame (we put cardboard below so it catches the poop) but its not mountains of it like people would think. Its little bloops here and there that should be regularly cleaned regardless Edit: oh and the doors
