How I completely changed my life (and you can too!)

I thought it was important for me to share this story with you because it’s probably the most significant one that shaped me and my whole outlook on life. I hope that it can spark a little inspiration or serve as a reminder that it’s never too late to change if you are not happy with the current trajectory of your life.
"We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known, and when we honor the spiritual connection that grows from that offering with trust, respect, kindness and affection." - Brené Brown.

When I had just met my husband, my sister said to me, "do you really think someone like him is going to be in a serious relationship with you" I thought she was projecting but in reality it's because she didn't really know me, the side that he fell in love with, because I'm reserve with mostly everyone and few people know who I really am. That's how it's been all my life feeling like i don't belong but now I don't mind not belonging and standing on my own.

Sophie, this is so timely. I've been talking to my hubby a lot lately about "changing the narrative", ever since we moved to a new place. 5 years ago, I couldnt code, rollerblade, bake, or dance, and all that changed because I decided to rewrite my narrative. This is so encouraging as I continue to navigate change and growth in life!

I spent about three years in depressed state, and still overcoming it, that's what's making things harder for me. But I know I will get over it. I know I can. But it's harder than it seemed. Sophie, we share a similar story. Though I'm much older now than you, at around 11 going on 12 my family moved, and it was very traumatizing and shocking, and I did things that created more destruction. I too knew I deserved better, and I've spent all these years creating a life worthy of me. I know I haven't always been as conscious as I could be, but I do think I've created a pretty decent painting so far. Thanks for sharing your story and process. I know what you've been through on sone level. We're so vulnerable and like you said don't have the tools yet. Not many at least. But every day is the first day of the rest of our lives, always another chance.

Sophie my lovely you made me cry! I adore this video, my absolute favourite from you! And even if I wasn't adopted I can relate a lot with your pain, I had my own share as well and I also had to choose at one point, do I want to keep playing the angry victim or just start working on my self and accept my past. I chose to bring out the best of me and see my past from an observer's point of view, without judgement, it was what it was, I cannot change that but I can change my present and my future because I deserve peace and happiness. i am glad I did that choice, my life it's much better now and same is my relationship with the ones around me. The change was very hard but was worth the pain! Thank you Sophie for reminding me all this! Much love!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I could not appreciate it more because I had a similar experience, that I was fostered since an infant and it was an indigenous community. Though I lived with mostly relatives and family friends and not complete strangers, my upbringing was quite turbulent that I had to frequently switch schools, and rotate families. Our physical conditions were very coarse, however, it was mainly the emotional needs of a child not being met. For a long time, I never questioned the way I grew up, always thought it is the way my life is, and internalized my pain and frustration, which led to many negative beliefs in me, such as "I don't deserve to be loved", "others have it better than me" or "no one would listen to me" and difficulty in expressing myself, etc. Your writing and videos are so beautiful, the way you articulated your story has also helped me to process mine. I can resonate so much with your words!

You spoke all those thoughts I've been having in my head last couple of years. Today I had a very tough day. I felt lost again. Started to compare myself to others. I'm so grateful I came across with this video. Made me feel so much better. Thank you for this beautiful reminder. I'm going to build myself up. It's my responsibility. Even when I feel like my whole world is falling apart, I promise I won't give up.

Thank you for your openness and honesty in sharing your story. I too lived in the victim mentality for many years, and changing that mindset has been one of the most freeing decisions of my life, although that realization came very late to me. I know now that I did not want to take responsibility for my own happiness, but looked for it in the approval and love of others. That approach was doomed to failure. I have since learned to find happiness in myself - in the enjoyment of the present moment, as well as in the gratitude I feel for all the good things in my life.

I teared up at the end of the video 🥺🥺 , thank you for sharing this with us, it came at the exact time when I was thinking that we always believe the story we tell ourselves, so we must be careful with the story we choose to embrace, changing the narrative of our story might look like a meaningless step, but it's the first step into changing our lives, it depends on everyone but the foundation of our narrative should come from a place of gratitude not a place of entitlement, a narrative where we feel as the hero and the survivor of our circumstances not a victim, that's what changing the narrative means to me, and as I am writing this comment I am reminding myself of it because it's easy to fall back into the past narrative if we don't constantly remind ourselves with the new one. Have a good week Sophie I am looking forward to seeing your next video 🎁

Thank you for sharing something so personal with us. Once again, it helps us on our bad days to keep things in context and in perspective. I definitely needed to hear this as a reminder because sometimes we just feel helpless and tired of whatever situation we are dealing with at that moment. Feeling lost or without direction. While I'm not adopted, I had parents who didn't want me, was abandoned by my "father", and had a mother who made it clear that she didn't want me as a son. She took care of me, (I say that loosely) but the result of her not actually wanting me was verbal, emotional, psychological abuse. It could have been worse, so I'm thankful it wasn't. I guess the point is that everything is a double edged sword, even in your past experiences with your parents. On one side of the spectrum, your parents left you and your sister, and on the other side of the spectrum, they may have been abusive in every way possible if they didn't leave. I don't think you have an idea of how your videos actually affect others in the world, and for that, I say thank you.

Your story today is compelling and pictures an excellent outlook on how each of us can create our own narrative. I have steadfastly maintained to be myself and not worry what others think.
