Here is my version of it : The UNSINKABLE II.
I explain step by step how I built it.
I added LED lights, a horn, a bilge pump and a fire hose that can actually shoot water.

    I have built a few Dumas kits over the years, and I think I could build one of those just as fast as the 3d printed one. This is a great build, great scale. Quick tip, to keep from fogging your windows, use canopy glue, CA can fog glass as it cures. Also try to use screws to hold as much of the cabins as possible, you will need to get back into them for updates and repairs.

    Excellent build and the extra details really add to the look of the ship. I printed one shortly after Peter put the design up and ended up with about 5kg of lead as ballast. I run the 2 motors on separate channels which gives options for low power running and differential thrust to turn on the spot.

    Thanks for your comment. I like your idea of running the motors seperately. I might have to try this, I have a free channel left on my radio I think. What konf of motors and ESc did you use?

    @@bernarddostie8892 its a bit of a weird setup re-purposing radio and some motors from other projects. In essence i have two small but low kv motors from a quad (cheapest Chinese specials £5), the cheapest 2 way 10 amp speed controllers (eBay £10) i could find. Each speed controller has its own battery, with the receiver and servo powered by only one side. I use the 2 sticks on the radio linked to the separate channels (forward/back for each motor) and one of the sticks is set up to steer. I favour the motor not running on the same battery as the radio so i still have steering, radio and some power when the main battery runs out (Lipos just die and you can’t hear the warning beeper). I also 3D printed some props with quite small blades to bring the thrust to a more scale level.

    If your not already, look into the slicer Cura. The tree supports print much faster, use less materials and less movements needed so less stringing. A small room heater in the "enclosure" will help too.

  • @bernarddostie8892

    @bernarddostie8892

    Жыл бұрын

    I should've thought about a room heater... I'll try it for the next build. Stringing wasn't a issue, but the loss of material broke my heart. The other problem was that the supports broke at one point and I had to intervene with hot glue (half way trough the 48 Hours print (front hull)). The Prusa Slicer doesn't offer the tree pattern support that you're talking about, but I will try to use the honeycomb support pattern on my next big print and if it doesn't work I'll try Cura! ;-) Thanks for your comment!

    The reason it does a wheeley is your propeller is facing directly rear and puts a rotational force on the ship the propeller, well, it shaff would be pointing more towards the center of mass of the ship. You can install an adjustable elevator on the rudder to divert some of the flow to right the ship, it should provide the same effect.

Its a lot more expensive vs an ender 6e ($800 vs $400) but if you can afford $800 just go for it. A much better printer, and a heck of a lot faster (up to 5 times as fast).

    My first 3D printer - Bambu P1S. First print was a Benchy with dozer blade and moving tracks. Second print was the start of a plane fuselage for an Eclipson Model C plane, using Polylite Lightweight PLA. Partway thru the plane prints, I printed the hull for this boat. First print with ASA, this hull, I had a little warpage. I maxed out at 100°C bed temp and started preheating the printer. No issues after that - very nice ASA boat hull sections with minimal supports. Thus with a nice enclosed printer, the printing is the easy part. I look forward to the better 3D printers coming because of Bambu's AMS and overall ease of use. The other manufacturers have to catch up.

    @@bernarddostie8892 Exactly :-) Also, I have been "Experimenting" with building boats, mostly from wood. First ever "Real boat" (the ones before were mostly hulls from toy boats in which i slapped some electronics) i build was a Cargo ship designed very loosely around the looks of a real Tanker. That Boat was constantly upgraded over time and rising knowledge and is, what i would call a interesting Design now. I just added lights on it today :-) Quite interesting if you take into consideration that my main interest with RC lays with RC flying. But i always liked to experiment and try new things with RC. For example a sorta like swamp boat from old Plane Floats is in the making Currently. Anyway, i can get lost in writing, and especially talking very fast, so I'll end it here. I did not make the 3D drawings for this boat and I only build models that I want to when I want to (sometimes, but still rarely for friends). I already have a project for the year to come and some maintenance work on my other rc models so I don't think that I'll find the time for something else. I learnt designing on KZread and I use a free version of Fusion 360. It takes time but is really rewarding. I encourage you to try!

    I downloaded the accessories from Thingsiverse and adjusted the size to the model, measuring them piece by piece (I didn't use any scale, just feeling). The accessories that were made by Peter Sripol didn't need any adjustments.

    I built my own Peter Stripol Utility Ship too and realized the design isn't GREAT when you include the entire super structure in terms of balast vs freeboard and overall performance in the water. My version has a hugely reduced super structure in favor of all the electronics and camera gear I carry. I did print and paint a full super structure when I want to just cruise but it just makes the boat run poorly IMO. My ballast is just four lbs and overall weight I think I'm up near 14 lbs.

  • @bernarddostie8892

    @bernarddostie8892

    I did noticed that the boat was a bit low in the water and that it wasn't as fast as I predicted (moves a loooot of water), but I still think that it's an awesome design even if the performance isn't perfect the look is nice. This kind of ship ain't designed to be fast either ways. With the adjusted ballast my boat is very stable even in rough waters. I watched your videos and you also talked about 6 lbs of ballast. That's about the weight I put in mine I think. Your FPV set is awesome. I especially like the underwater camera! Good job!

    And what about towing a boat? If you have a lot of power but not a high speed, seems you'll get a lot of thrust at a low speed. I suggest to tow something about 500+ kilograms displacement.

  • @bernarddostie8892

    @bernarddostie8892

    Жыл бұрын

    It has definetely a lot of thrust, but those motors aren't designed to tow anything heavy (they are made to turn fast). I successfully towed someone in a kayak, but I'm afraid that it may fry a motor someday... But I have to try again.

  • @GeneralBlackbird

    @GeneralBlackbird

    Жыл бұрын

    @@bernarddostie8892 It all depends on propellers. The motors can run fast. If the propellers are not high-speed, then the ship will not accelerate. But the propellers thrust will grow. You will get a lot of static thrust, with a zero speed. You can take a dynamometer and "tow the pier" to measurethe thrust. If the motors will not overheat after this measureing, everything is all rigth.

    Bei 10min und 10 Sekunden im Video solltest du ein Diagramm des elektrischen Schaltkreises der Lichter sehen. Es ist unvollständig, da ich einige Dinge nachträglich geändert habe. Ich verwende ESCs, die einen BEC-Ausgang haben. Einer der beiden gibt mir 7,2 V und der andere 5,2 V. Das ESC mit 7,2 V ist mit dem ESC für das Bugstrahlruder, dem Schalter für die Hupe, dem Schalter für den Feuerwehrschlauch und dem Schalter für die Bilgenpumpe verbunden. An die 5,2 V habe ich die Lichter angeschlossen, die immer eingeschaltet sind, sowie den Schalter, mit dem die Such- und Deckslichter aktiviert werden. Ich werde in den nächsten Monaten ein weiteres Video mit mehr Details online stellen.
