Thank you for the brilliant video Russell. Personally, I don't like Tony Robbins, but that doesn't invalidate the points he made. Actually most of it coincides with what I've read in Stoicism, I guess they are universal wisdom that exist throughout different ages and cultures. Just imagine that, for thousands of years, we are just struggling with the same things over and over again, generation after generation. FFS lol

In our society, all too often, arrogance is mistaken for confidence. True confidence is a lack of stuff. A lack of fear, an acceptance of who we are. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of that by trying out different methods, it's all ok. Make yourself stand tall! As alien as that may feel it can lead to inner confidence or lack of fear, acceptance, whatever we wanna call it 🙃

For someone at peace with their level of confidence, that would be beneficial. Acceptance is good. However, for someone who is not at peace and crippled by fear during the slightest of interactions (like a friend of mine who was too lacking in confidence to even ask for her annual review where she will get the raise she deserves), these tips may be very beneficial. Everyone is at a different place in their journey. That’s easy to forget sometimes.💚

Hey Russell. A few years ago I went through CBT for anxiety. It worked wonders for me; techniques we can use to slow down the mind, observe our behaviour & thoughts, and make changes to "Break the cycle" of said thoughts, behaviours and whatnot. Focussing on Achievement, Closeness, and Enjoyment in activities and trying to get some of that nectar each day. The more I watch your videos the more aware I am that these techniques closely mirror spiritual practises, in particular this is one of the aims of meditation. The idea that confidence IS something you can CHANGE about yourself, as stated in this video, I think is a key part of realising that one can take charge of their own life, and whether that knowledge comes to someone through the lens of a therapists office, or through spiritual practise, I think it is a good thing. As well as, of course, helping people realise the importance and indeed necessity of connection, helping others, and so on (This is what's meant by "Closeness). What are your thoughts on the similarities between behavioural therapies and spiritual practise? I feel like Buddhist monks had mental health completely sussed out 2000 years ago to be honest but I would love to hear your view!

I went to a therapist years ago who gave me some coping techniques that are helpful, but I can't say I've overcome it. She also put me on Zoloft but I had some terrifying days when I ran out and couldn't get more (insurance issue). It was so brutal I decided I didn't want to rely on chemicals. What about doing something on here about interpreting dreams? Sam Harris at al in terms of meditation practice, doesn’t seem to pay much attention to them, but the Jungian perspective sees the relevance of trying to make sense of them and what they might be telling you.

Some research suggest that High Self Esteem is not all that cracked up to be. People with high self esteem find it difficult to accurately assess their true feeling and have difficulty with emphathy. Very high self esteem borders on narcissism. So maybe being of low esteem isn't suffering at all but just different like being introverted or extroverted. Self compassion is a much more natural path.

After exiting a cult and suffering numerous chronic health conditions and sometime last year having planned to go back to Canada twice and having decided not to because of the pandemic and personally wanting to avoid the vaccine for personal reasons siding with the Anti Vaxers movement, coupled with having dropped out of a college program, my confidence was REALLY taking a beating. Building my confidence was something I wondered about just now. Interestingly, Russell Brand uploaded this wonderful and helpful video ^_^

about meditation, many people think it will stop the ugly thoughts.... I believe it actually serves us to REALIZE that we have those ugly thoughts.... recognizing is a first step to be AWARE.... once aware of what it is, we may decide to do something differently and evolve, without attachments to a way of identifying ourselves that is toxic and/or obsolete... some may see this world full of rainbow unicorns, others may see it full of shit....as with many other things, what that old man said may apply: for this life we need to learn to keep "that fine balance between hope and despair"... love ya

Growth seems to get harder as I get older. I hate to say that because I always found curmudgeonly behavior repulsive. But here I seem to drift towards. Would love Russell’s take on aging mindfully and open to the changing world and allowing growth to continue.

self love is naturally a love of for others, you care want to share rejoice in others successes whereas narc. is wanting to take, own, control, lack empathy, no accountability or ability to self reflect. Yes one must understand know the signs.

Narcissistic people don’t love themselves. They hide their true selves to avoid intense feelings of shame. Self love is not narcissistic because the love inside can turn outwards toward others and the world.
