I LOVE your basic look. That’s my comfort zone. I used to wear men’s Levi’s in college - I’d take in the bottoms to make them less wide, but not skinny. I liked how they went straight down from my hips - I hated curvy pants (kind of still do).

Very helpful Alyssa! I do the same. First check the weather. I like to feel comfortable in my clothes. Not hot. Not cold. So layers. I also chose one item I want to wear and build my outfit around it. Choosing basic pieces to highlight a statement piece. Mixing high low. Love your relaxed fit black tee and your statement jacket. Ha, ha, after checking the weather every day I also always feel like throwing my phone in frustration. It has been such a cold year so far. Besides weather, my mood that day is the biggest indicator of what to wear. I never choose my outfits in the evening, but do it before going out - sometimes I feel creative, sometimes classy, sometimes playful, and sometimes I just want to be invisible. First, I pick my statement piece and then I build my look around it. Hugs from Toronto.

Agree. My mood is the number one determiner of what I want to wear. I go so far as to iron multiple things in advance of events so I cover all my mood bases. Also helps having clothes ironed later in the week!!:)

I live in t-shirts and love the idea of a "dressy" t !

Another great video! We are getting snow on Thursday and my son’s graduation ceremony is Friday. Since May is unpredictable in Colorado, I knew to plan both a warm weather and a chilly weather outfit for the day! Versatile basics are a lifesaver!

Yes! I also dress according to my mood often and love to use juxtaposition/balance to round out an outfit: I find that if my outfits skew too far into a certain "style category," I feel like I'm wearing a costume.

Alyssa, it was so interesting to get a "behind the scene" look at your thought process for styling an outfit. I learn something new every time I watch you...thanks! I worked in a traditional corporate environment for years. Now, I have more creative freedom with fashion I can get "stuck" in my old ways. I'll definitely think about my wardrobe differently after watching this.

You are really helping me start to "recover" from years of way too much consumption. On another note, I found it actually easier to dress when I was a corporate lawyer. Slacks and a blazer, simple jewelry, minimal makeup. Easy Peasy.

Omg! I love Encircled t--shirts! They are exactly as you described: eco-made by fairly paid staff, soft, breathable (for the most part), drapey, long, and the colours stay true unlike cotton tees. I have four of them! I love how you support responsibly made clothing and you're one of the few stylists who doesn't just show cheap fast fashion items alongside expensive designer items, as if these were the only options available. There is a middle ground. (Although H & M is fast fashion, no? But in your description you mention having the jacket a long time, so you're not treating it as disposable.) Great ideas! So I prioritize my makeup (though it’s a no-makeup look basically) over clothes in the morning, and my outfit decisions start always with what I’m wearing on my feet. Shoes set the vibe of the outfit (and mood), and it’s ME that people will remember, not my clothes at the end of the day. Loved seeing your process! Ciao Bella: I would choose a navy blue, modal t-shirt instead of black. Black never elevates my mood but I do have some garments with fabrics patterned with some black that I combine with other colors. Nice grey oxfords and your little jacket. Yes, you are so right in my field jeans are a not acceptable at all but maybe an occasional Fridays but no holes at all. I do the same thing as you do: check the weather, mood and what do I have to do that day at work before I pick an outfit.

Hmm. I've STOPPED checking the weather every morning cos I was starting to get obsessive about it (was actually checking about every hour) and clothing wise that's working out fine so far - I just wear layers. But 1 of the things that I loved when I was traveling through Canada in the winter (several years ago now) was how the weather channel is on everywhere! Being Canadian you probably don't realise how much this defines your culture but for me it was a great way to absorb the culture and understand the country better.

Yes- I do like your video! Your aesthetic is very similar to mine, except that since I am quite elderly, I always have more arm and leg coverage. I too have a signet ring w. my initials (silver). I also have my Vassar College signet (gold) which is just an intwined V and C- the classic style. I enjoy your enthusiasm and your intelligence.

Awesome! I love that trench SOOOO much! And I always admire that Jacquard blazer every time I see it on you--I wish I had something like that! And it's always helpful and fun to hear your process (and how much practicality goes into your choices. LOVE that!). Weather is also the first thing I check--and I'm always trying to accommodate the fact that I walk a lot in whatever weather is happening (I don't drive). Sorta off topic but I'm currently trying to curate a shoe collection that is comfortable but cute and as ethical as possible, but good in all kinds of weather (since I walk a lot but don't like to wear sneakers to work or to go out in). It's really really hard! Maybe I'll get there someday. 😉

Glad to hear that it's okay to wear different metal colors together (e.g. silver metallic shoes with gold button blazers)! I find it really hard to always match the hardware (e.g. zipper of ankle boots, zipper of moto/leather jacket, buttons, metal parts of purses, etc.).

Weather, agenda, mood. Me, too! I appreciate you really starting from the beginning. Those three steps are the guides, for sure. Consider making a video for when the AM starts off cold AF, gets hot throughout the day, then gets cold again. The worst. I end up freezing, boiling, then freezing again.

I’m in the UK freaking weird weather blooming cold as heck right now. Love your outfit choices , loving the t shirt it definitely does look more elevated than a bog standard cotton number. Wish I had your figure tbh but I still get inspiration from your videos.

It's nice to hear you talk through this simple process we all go through every day. I'm also a mood dresser and sometimes dress to lift my spirits when I'm feeling down. Modal is wonderful. My first garment in that fabric was a maxi dress I bought over 10 years ago, and I'm still wearing and loving it. I'm glad you talked through your reasoning for what jewelry you did and didn't wear. I love hats, scarves, and layers, but accessorizing with jewelry isn't my strong point, so that was helpful.

When I’m working I choose one kit for the week from Monday to Tuesday it’s to complicated for me each morning et to wasting time on the morning. I have to look a bit ‘corporate’ but as client change a each hour (psychologist) I can we’re the same thing four days. Love your video and I would like to be able to compose a look as easy as you do. Thank’s so much love your style and tips.

Hi Alyssa, I follow you here and everywhere :) you’ve changed my life!! I was wondering if you could make a video about knitted garments. It’s such an important part of a curated wardrobe and I really need some help with that probably other gals need too! Which brands to buy and what to look for when buying those type of clothes. xx

I would totally wear these lace shorts with a nice off white blouse, long sleeves, tucked in, with a simple belt, platform shoes, and a high messy bun. Maybe with light blazer. Maybe it's because i'm french and i see this piece elegant enough to be worn at work 😏

I'm way older than you are but I still love your style! I just water it down a bit. I appreciate your comment about the appropriateness of the shorts. I works with young women transitioning out of college into the workplace. It is not a legal or banking environment, but those shorts or something similar is what I see all the time. I need to pull these ladies aside and ask them to chose more wisely when they come to work. It's not only for their employers but they them to look more professional and to be taken seriously as young professionals and not college students. They seems dismayed, but most take my request. I think it coming from you at your age and how trendy you look would come with more acceptance so thanks again!

I can’t even imagine going out with bare ankles in 7° (or even 47°) weather. Otherwise I love the cold weather look!

I use an app called Cladwell and it helps me a lot. I also check in on my mood too 😀👍 hugs from Sweden it’s also in single digits temperature, can’t wait for warmth 😘

You are becoming my to go source for dress inspiration! I'm totally in line with your minimalistic wardrobe philosophy. Do you have any recommendations for no show socks? I have yet to find a comfortable no show socks that 1. Is actually no show when you wear ballet flats/heels 2. Doesn't slide down your feet constantly. Please keep up the good work! ☺️

I actually bought a pair of fairly cheap no-show sox (actually they were on sale so might not have been particularly cheap originally) a couple of months ago but they have a kinda plastic grip around the heel. First time I wore them I thought: this isn't gonna work. It FELT like they were gonna slip down straight away, even before I left the house - but I didn't have time to fiddle with them and had a pretty hectic, running around (sometimes literally) day and they stayed in place throughout. And they've held up to washing so far so I'm pretty happy and would recommend you look out for a pair like that

Sometimes I go reverse and decide which coat to wear and boots or shoes and go from there. Because of strange weather going from -10 to plus 10 in 1 week.

@@AlyssaBeltempo I'd go an inch or two longer - I'm old school - but I've totally worn shorts suits to work. Probably couldn't get away with that at a wall street firm (I live in the U.S.) but a lot of banks are adopting a "tech" culture and eliminating the business professional work attire requirement. I love it in the winter, but when guys show up in, what I believe is, their pj's in the summer, I miss the old days :-D

Thanks for the video! I just bought a pair of silver, metallic loafers. Do you have any suggestions about how to wear them, especially with some of my colder weather clothing? They aren't as versatile as I'd hoped. Or maybe I just don't know how to style them.

I'm so glad you liked the extra option! As for the jacket, it is from the H&M conscious collection several years ago and I find it fits small - I was wearing a 4 ! I have seen many sizes pop up on ebay though - keep an eye out! Hope this info helps :)

My issue with style is that in London it's usually cold. I find it uncomfortable to wear layers so always feel my outfits are lacking that elevation of a blazer. Just big overcoats :( and I wall to work ugh. Too hot!

Are they fast fashion, ethical, etc. The price point is so good,but would like to know more about the companies before I buy. There is not much on their web sites. Loved both looks 👍. Though for look #1, I would have skipped the scarf. It brings unnecessary volume to your cute outfit and seems that you already have enough with the layering ;)

I am very much a mood dresser so I can't plan for the next day. I tend to change my mind in the morning.

It was a warm 7 degrees! Will admit I grabbed a heavier scarf once I stepped outside but I was surprisingly OK without socks !

Alyssa, nice French sheek casual outfit. However, I feel adding a belt makes an outfit look more "polished ." The outfit without a belt looks like u rushed out the house and forgot to put your belt on. I do like the jacket and comfortable black t-shirt.

@@AlyssaBeltempo yes u mentioned in the video that u would skip wearing one because of the jacket . Love the jacket by the way. The jacket looks dressy so that's why I stated the belt would make it look more polished. I look forward to your videos every Sunday. The make me smile.😊
