Diaphone, what do you do to prepare for matchups? Just to give you some detail on what I do, is fight a character, watch the replay and find out what I was losing to. I do go over frame data, but I feel I do too much theory fighter. While I feel like I am doing well, I would like to talk to a someone who competes, so I can prepare. I would like to compare what we both do, and maybe I can gain some knowledge.

So it depends. In a new game like this... my priority is to learn all the stuff my character can do as opposed to worrying about matchup specific stuff. And if I run into something I don't know what to do when playing, I lab it out after. I don't worry about frame data much outside of whether something is + or -, unless it's something specific then I need to figure out how to punish etc

Bang's was OP since it lets him pass through opponents for those grimey crossups. Grims reminded me more of Answers based on the positioning of the seals and cuz its multi set

Watching the Spauldo match and seeing how much space Vas is able to consume cause of super armor walk and Diaphone not knowing he can throw him between hits. Which like I only know this because I JUST so happened to watch a video of a Sieg player who knew the match up. Curious to see how he adapts and if he learns cause this is the stuff that I want to learn how to figure out on my own.

The answer is almost always to lab. Just set CPU to do what your opponent did, and try things over and over. It's easy enough to say, just try mashing a light or throw between moves in a combo to see what happens and take note. IThe you can experiment with bigger moves during any window you find and if any of your starters work, you can then lab combos. If there are no windows, check if you can utilize movement somehow. Basically just try your options, find something that works. These options might turn out to be really complicated, really simple, really risky, or really safe, but if someone doesn't tell you, it's time to go experiment. It takes a lot of time and dedication to lab things out,but IMO it one of the fun parts. Like solving a puzzle in a puzzle game.

i guarantee that diaphone knows you can throw between hits, he was a top player in this game before rising after all. that was why he was mixing up his dash A and dash throw to get through the vas armour later. Spauldo was just playing too well to ever let diaphone advance, and spaced out his armoured attacks to beat spot dodges, roll throughs and catch Grimnir's dash A while also using his own dash a meaties to keep dash momentum and counter his own pushback.

Yea you can only throw him out point blank from stance and he has ways to beat it. I lost for a few reasons, one being not knowing how to correctly pressure vas on KD, and not understanding neutral (should have used fireball KD advantage more)

@Diaphone this is good information I didn't think about! Ty for the reply. By not taking advantage of fireball KD do you mean like how there are times you have fireball pressure but you only really use it to maintain distance? I noticed against the Katalina the first round she got blown up by the fireballs but it was largely cause she just stood there taking them. Would it have been better for you to keep throwing fireballs or to try and get closer to fish for a combo? Sorry for questions trying to understand the mindset for my own improvement!

So normally doing grimnir's airdashes leaves you -2 on block, however it seems a bit different when you do that early jump 6u like you do at a few points. In that case it looks like you're even, and j.L is 5 frames, so if they c.L it looks like you both clash and then you land, in which case you're slightly minus. Also, that low to the ground airborne 6u whiffs on crouchers. So just to be clear, if Grimnir does any sort of direct wind orb approaches at you, either A)its reactable and you just AA, or B) you just block and youre at advantage so hit close L, UNLESS he's on top of another wind orb in which case he can probably do a frametrap. Also, j.u is even on crouchers, its only + against someone standing.

I dont in these matches but I think it has some use. Kazunoko uses it every time it's off cooldown so I've been playing with it. It's good but the issue is having access to ultimate skills I value a lot so I'm not sure how much to use install.

only FG fans know. maybe for casual its just rerelease with extra steps. but for FG fans, its actually more than that. alot of stuff added, even roll back and crossplay too. its hard to implement a crossplay and roll back with previous game, so they need to build up from ground to do that, its basically a new game, sequel. the story also a continuation of the previous title too.
