How has the mulched pasture done? We have about a 30 acre area that I plan on renting a mulcher and shredding up all of the mesquite. Not ideal, but need it gone and then try to control it from there.

You are right, it is not ideal BUT it is much much easer to use and now control. I will try to show some footage of it at some point. I am spraying anything that starts to grow. I need the root system to die and begin to decompose some. The wood chips have helped to keep moisture in the ground. We had good winter grass in that area but not seeing a good stand of summer grass right now. I am going to stay on top of it and maybe run the ripper through it. (MAYBE). It may be still to soon for that. The root system may be to much for my 73 Hp tractor to pull through. Thanks

Shredding, at least, knocks out foliage to keep the plants from producing beans. Then can come back like you did with herbicide to control sprouts. Then grub what is left

Yes that is true. It is a little time consuming and requires labor to stay on top of it, but it does work. It cost a lot less than root plowing but it is a little slower process. I have seen several fields that have been root plowed and with in a few years the Mesquite start to reappear. It is all about control in my opinion. Root plowed or not. Thanks we appreciate you.
