How HELVETICA Became the Biggest Font in Fashion & Beyond | Behind the HYPE

What do Off-White, Knoll and NASA have in common? Besides being leaders in their respective fields, all of these companies are known for using the world’s most popular font. Helvetica, originally named Die Neue Haas Grotesk, dates back to the 1950s when it was designed to be a neutral typeface with no particular meaning. Today, Helvetica has become the Kleenex of sans-serif fonts, ubiquitous for its legibility and minimal aesthetic.
For the latest installment in our Behind the HYPE series, HYPEBEAST takes a closer look at Helvetica’s timeline, from its humble beginnings to its role in luxury and streetwear branding.

LegitDigitSky frankly, it's an epidemy of youtube where somebody who has no relevant/notable experience in a field googles a bunch of things, and makes a video about, not asking experts or people who deal with typography daily. Channels such as Kurzgesagt get it right, they research properly. Channels such as half as interesting do this right by making videos on events and such, where the research needed is simple. But this? This is taking an extremely complex, deep, and difficult field of design that everybody seems to take for granted, and takes it for granted by limiting the research to a bunch of google searches. There are things said right in this video, there's things said wrong, and people with no background in type have no good way of telling which is which. As boomer as it sounds, Google is hardly ever enough to do actual research on this sort of topic.

You have to like how they only used Helvetica for many fonts. Helvetica was used on the beginning episode titles and closing credits of Muppet Babies (1984-1992), the closing credits of season 1 of The Transformers: Generation 2 (1993-1994).
