How has the war on Gaza changed the narrative among young people? | The Stream

This episode will look into how the war on Gaza has been reshaping global perceptions, particularly among youth in the West and what potential long-term reforms that might bring about. Through a conversation with young online activists, we delve into some of the new shifts in young people’s perspectives of their governments, mainstream media, international law, Western democracy and more.

@@4everjaguar "JackField" is most likely a social media bot for the Israeli government or another Israeli organisation. Notice how the account has 12k subscribers without any content at all (probably artificially inflated via a third-party subscription service) to gain more credibility. This is a common phenomenon and I believe there's a specific department within the Israeli military which deals with these types of affairs aka spreading propaganda online. Also, what real person has a logo-styled portrait of themselves as a profile picture along with their name portrayed as a company name. Seems too... artificial...

Great segment with an impressive panel of guests! I’ve worked in a Middle East Studies office at two different Uni’s for the past 14 years and it is amazing to see the change in awareness and compassion for Palestinians in that time. Unfortunately, as they have said here, our politicians seem impervious to the vast amount of emails, calls, petitions, protests, etc. We likely need to get $$ out of politics before much can change. As a gen Xer, I love seeing the younger generations engaging in politics and helping to give the rest of us some hope again. We need people from all generations and walks of life to be engaged if we’re going to make the changes we need, so get your parents and grandparents on social media or at least KZread so they can learn from something other than msm! 😊

I was 9 when I first got access to the World Wide Web and was told that it would change the future. 30 years later I have to agree that the decentralization of information is helping our civilization (especially the young people who grew up with this technology) to see the interconnectedness of the universe as it has been for many cultures through the ages. The seeing of one as separate from the world is a cancer propped up by our trade based economic model which creates a value disorder putting money/property over memorable connections/compassion.

I love these young people, speaking their minds and telling the truth and stand up for what is right. Genocide and apartheid are just wrong, nothing complicated about that. Occupying other people's country and treat them as lesser humans is wrong, starving them and stripping them of their basic human rights is so fing wrong. What do people not understand about this! I am a part of an older generation now, my parents are boomers. I've notice people my age complaining about young people, I personally think it is because of fear. Every generation fears that their status quo will change because they are comfy in that status. I am grateful for these younger generations, they are the ones who will see the error of my parents generation, and my generastion for not trying harder, and unfortunately are the ones who have to inherit the absolute mess we've left them with and try to fix it, which might not be possible at this point because everything on this planet has gotten so bad. Yet the older generations have the nerve to blame the young people, who want to make things better, for their own fokk ups. I admire the younger people for not fearing to stand up for what is right, I do that with them and will do so until we get the change needed.

So where are the geographical roots of the so called Palestinians??????? Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad, aired by Al-Hekma TV on March 23, 2012. Stated..........we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri ["Egyptian"]. Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian! They may be from Alexandria, from Cairo, from Dumietta, from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians. The so called Palestinians are not even from Palestine!!!!!! ************!!!

human empathy doesn't work at an abstract, intellectual level-- only at a visceral level- only what we can see and hear ourselves... that's why the pro-extermination side of the conflict always has to speak in vague abstractions and divert the conversation to anything other than the human reality of what is happening... but we who were born in the 1980s or later- the 2kYs and GenZ... we *CAN* see and hear eachother... we can talk to folks from all over the world and hear their cries, see the plane sight of what is occurring..... the corporate media cannot lie to us and control us as they could our parents; we don't need to rely on intermediaries and gate-keepers to find what's happening in our world

Thank you Al Jazeera for such stand up journalism. 🙌🏼🇵🇸 It moves me to know the youth of today are so passionate about learning about history and realizing the power of organizing. I was always very passionate as a young person about the Holocaust and other genocides even the corruption in the upper echelons. But people were still highly conditioned in those days. I’m very proud of humanity for waking up and doing something about the evil of the Zionist colonial movement.

As a white heteronormative GenX woman I’ve been waiting for this for 25 years. Not being Islamophobic and supporting Palestinians in their struggle felt incredibly lonely when I was young, it was seen as irrelevant or just plain wrong by the majority in my youth. The average person of my generation has never even heard of Rachel Corrie, let alone things like the Nakba. It was rough enough suggesting that Iraq didn’t have WMDs, even in a country that officially opposed “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. The visibility of atrocities, understanding racism, intersectionality, and so on is clearly helping, but it’s GenZ and their refusal to be quiet and compliant that is giving me hope.

This is the first time most young Americans (under 30, according to polls) disagree with both Dems and Republicans on foreign intervention. The reason why is that the mainstream media’s monopoly on the dissemination of news and opinions has been broken by the rise of social media.
