How has Putin TRANSFORMED the Russian ARMY? - VisualPolitik EN

The Russian Federation is a country of stark contrasts. On one hand, the vast majority of its nearly 150 million inhabitants live in poverty, but on the other, it is one of the countries with the most international influence. Mother Russia is still a superpower.
Of course, that influence comes not from its economic power but essentially from its military power. Because the truth is that, although it continues to trail even further behind the United States, Russia is still regarded as the second great military power. And even today, it is only China that is threatening to bump it down one place in the world rankings.
Indeed, since Vladimir Putin came to power, the revamping of the armed forces has become a national priority. Now, in what state did Putin find the Russian army? What has been the result of the Russian army's modernization plans? Why has this become so important in Russian politics? In this video, we'll tell you.

The truth is Russia doesn't need huge armed forces. The nuclear subs, planes and missile launchers cover them against a large scale war. In stead Russia only needs about 20% of its armed forces for fighting purposes in any war. As long as they have that number highly trained, and equipped with good weapons and equipment that's all that is required. The rest are just internal security for stability against a breakdown in power.

You would be surprised how effective old technology and weaponry can be during wartime. A lot of the old tech still runs reliably. Vietnam still operates a fleet of T-34s, and the AK-47 has been present in every major conflict since its inception. Just because the equipment isn't modern doesn't mean it can't be effective. And How did Rice farmers get access to Anti Aircraft missiles, That's not how the Vietnam war was won, the U.S. job was to protect South Vietnam, and was not allowed to invade North Vietnam, because of that, Russia and China flooded the north with Weapons, when war seems unwinnable for the U.S. and south Vietnam, the U.S. pulled out and then, supported the South by bombing the north, for constantly attacking the south, all 3 parties agree to attend the Paris peace conference, North, South Vietnam and U.S. agreed to peace, then the North broke the peace deal by invading the south, so no, the U.S. did not lose the Vietnam war, because all parties agree to peace, the north Vietnam lost their honor by breaking a peace deal and invade the South.

I'm thinking back in history - Crimean War 1853/6 - Russia lost. Russo Japanese War 1904/5 was a humiliating defeat for Russia. Russia was not doing well in WW1 and was part of the reason for the Russian Revolution. Russian attack on Finland 1939/40 was an embarrassment for Russia - they did eventually beat the much weaker Finnish army but they got their butts kicked repeatedly in the process. Russia succeeded in WW2 but again with by far the greatest cost of any army in that war... really terrible their losses. Russia in Afghanistan 1979/89 - Russia gave up eventually. I actually seems Russia has generally been overestimated.

It's not a peace deal, it is an economic relations normalization deal. Most importantly IT IS NOT NEW. There is nothing in it but smoke and mirrors for the US evangelical electorate by putting on a show for them implying that Trump is such a good deal maker that got a "muslim" country to shun Hezbollah and open an embassy in Jerusalem. The only things that came out of the meeting were in fact not even economical: Trump does not know geography or the political system in Kosovo (Kosovo is not a muslim country but a secular one and very friendly to Israel [as is Albania too, Albanians are the only ppl that had more jews after WWII than before it, many jews moved there to escape persecution from other countries and Albanians protected them with their own life due to their code of honor BESA] and has been waiting for Israel to recognise it for 10 long years now in order to do both things [President Thaci has said long time ago "The very same day that Israel will recognise Kosovo I will open the embassy in Jerusalem"], Kosovo is not situated in the middle east but in the heart of Europe). Trump pretended he secured recognition of Kosovo as a sovereign country by Israel in exchange for Kosovo to declare Hezbollah a terrorist organisation and open an embassy in Jerusalem (which will gain Trump evangelical and jewish votes for re-election). Trump got Serbia to declare to do the same in exchange for $ to build highway, railway, airport to connect the two countries to a deep new port in Albania (that was not even present in the meeting). A deal that by the time elections are over it will be over too (meaning either the two countries will not pass it in their parliaments and or the new US administration will throw it in the bin).

Russian economy is more diversified than most people think. The West characterization of the Russian economy as only a ''gas station with nukes'' is false. Let's recap, Russia went through their own Great Depression in the 90's, and yes fuel exports played a role in the stabilization after year 2000. But what is not mentioned in MSM Russia as the legal succesor of the Soviet Union, took over the debt the Soviet Union had unlike the other 15 ex-Soviet states. Russia also took very important policy decisions for the long term, they created a stabilization fund(aka rainy day fund) in 2008, which helped Russia after Western sanctions(and oil price manipulation by US & Saudi Arabia) in 2014, avoiding a Venezuelan situation. It's has very little debt and a high foreign reserves, unlike the US, most EU countries & China which have very high debts. Russia also joined the WTO in 2012 seven years later than China.

I'm sorry, the majority of those states were forcefully incorporated into the USSR, and forced to participate in experimental state communism as well as support a military-industrial complex, why on earth should those countries be forced to take on the debt of their oppressors and occupiers?? Furthermore the Russian state has a pretty awful sovereign debt rating so it simply couldn't afford to borrow in large amounts the way that western states do. Gas & Oil constitute 50% of the state's budget and 70% of exports, so calling it diversified is a big stretch. The reason that Russia needs a stabilization fund is due to the fact that it's credit rating does not allow it to cheaply borrow in case of a crisis, as well as their actions as an international pariah making it risky for them to borrow money in international markets in case of sanctions

    1) Georgian war - Georgia looked quite impressive mini military force at 2008, just search for their army videos on youtube. 5 days is quite a blitzcrieg with outdated army equipment, you can compare it to current Nagorno Karabakh conflict, when quiet advanced Azerbaijan is struggling with Armenia which really doesn't have much of modern equipment 2) Ukraine - unofficiall involvement meant Russians didn't use full might of their forces, which still is undeniable fact (despite russians deny it to this day). It had some huge battle's - you can see Ukrainian tanks and armor losses were significant, talking about 2500+ armored vehicles lost during the 2 years active phase of the conflict. At the end technically Ukraine lost the war with grim chances of claiming back East of the Ukraine, Crimea seems out of the question at the moment. So Russian obsolete military equipment did well versus other country with similar equipment. 3) 2015 Syrian involvement, will have to remind that western forces had significant involvement in the region, mainly in Iraq. Iraq as a matter had to buy some equipment from Russia, as western suppliers were lagging with delivery. So they bought some planes, armoured vehicles and used it while taking back Mosul (a lot of evidence on youtube). The other thing is that the US had established army bases in Iraq territory and that didn't prevent the success of the caliphate. Russian operating with limited forces and obsolete equipment did quite well, I don't believe syrian regime was a very effective fighting force and still - they managed to beat ISIS and some free syrian army forces (till Turkey got involved big time). You can notice the prestige caused by this how Putin was met in UAE and Saudi Arabia after that, countries who technically were adversaries in Syrian conflict 4) You cannot compare US companies output in USD - the rates are crazy how much they charge, and yes - they produce top notch equipment. Till the US has the FED and strongest army in the world this shouldn't change (money supply for the US army) To make it more visual :) take 5 USD and try to buy something in the US and in Russia and you will see what I mean. PPP still matters here and biggest buyers of the equipment are countries themself. So the US is getting charged more for what they produce and that it is. Would be much fair to compare arms export data (2018 data based on wiki) 1 United States 10,508 2 Russia 6,409 3 France 1,768... 7 China1,040 (I assume China is growing steadily) It is not the best analysis - I just wanted to remind you of a few things I have heard about this country "Russia is never as strong as she looks; Russia is never as weak as she looks" (God knows who said it, so many want to claim the phrase) Otto von Bismark: "The secret of politics? Make a good treaty with Russia." - and he made no mistake here when it comes to WW1 later
