    Russia attacked in the Kharkiv region from their own borders safe in the knowledge western weapons couldn't be used against them. That forced the NATO allies to re-evaluate their policy of the use of western weapons on Russian territory.

    @@poppypottschannelone of the main reasons behind the non defended area near the border was exactly because Ukrainians had a lot of limitations about attacking Russia mainland while Russia had no restrictions in firing across the border. So they had to keep a quite large buffer zone since building fortifications too close to the border meant to be hit by artillery without being able to return fire as most equipment came with the rule that it could only be used inside Ukraine. Which is why Ukraine only attacked inside Russia using Russian nationals defectors since they were not limited to the western rules but still the west complained at that time about the cross border attacks. And also is why until recently almost all the attacks inside Russia were done with Ukrainian made drones and not western missiles.

    Stalemate? Avdiivka, Ocheretyne, Robotyne and recently the village next to Marinka have all fallen to Russia almost twice the number of settlements compared to the 2023 counter offensive have fallen to Russia since October. That is not a stalemate. Ukraine didn't even capture a fortified position close to Avdiivka I've seen the maps.

  • @user-ut5jq1pr4s

    @user-ut5jq1pr4s

    5 күн бұрын

    Look at the map more precisely. All of these "achievements" were very small towns before Russia turned them into ruins and then captured them. If Russia continues to take a few square kilometres every year, it will not reach the desired Donetsk oblast borders until 2100 AD.

  • @asavelakuse6865

    @@user-ut5jq1pr4s in what military campaign do you expect a town to be captured unscathed when there are army units using it as a fortified position. Buildings can be repaired and rebuilt later. And also the rapid advance is a thing of 2022 not to ever been repeated. The battlefield is so transparent no one moves large numbers of people without the other catching on so to capture any new positions under these conditions is a success.

  • @user-ut5jq1pr4s

    @user-ut5jq1pr4s

    @asavelakuse6865 You missed my main point. It could be described as: "If you can't see the "astonishing success" of one of the parties on the map without a microscope, it is a stalemate." About your comment: If you can't take towns without their complete demolition, you should not take any of them. "Buildings can be repaired and rebuilt later" sounds ridiculous if we're talking about Russia, which doesn't spend money to repair the buildings even on its old territories. Especially after the Russian officials themselves stated that they would not restore "liberated" towns such as Popasnaya, Marinka, etc.

  • @asavelakuse6865

    @asavelakuse6865

    5 күн бұрын

    @@user-ut5jq1pr4s The conflict is ongoing it wouldn't make sense to rebuild places that close to the frontline. Plus like I said rapid advances are not possible due to the transparent battlefield. I'm not talking about right or wrong I've seen and heard too much bullshit to base life on that belief so if it's a moral argument I'm no expert at that. The facts are that it will be a sluggish fight for everything towns, villages and forests. If a whole counter offensive didn't even take an equivalent to Avdiivka and the Russians have I can't call the past 9 months a stalemate it would cheapen the defenders and attackers efforts.

  • @user-ut5jq1pr4s

    @user-ut5jq1pr4s

    5 күн бұрын

    @@asavelakuse6865 In physics, "work" is force multiplied by displacement. So it doesn't matter how many efforts you make if the result is to take only a few kilometres for a few months. You can compare it with the WWI battles, which also didn't have any significant results. And the absence of the possibility of rapid advances does mean "stalemate", doesn't it? According to the current tempo, as I mentioned, Russia achieves its goal (one of several) of taking the control over the whole Donetsk oblast in a hundred years. "The conflict is ongoing; it wouldn't make sense to rebuild places that close to the frontline" Look at Kharkiv on the Ukrainian side; they are rebuilding it non-stop despite the fact that it has been under Russian attack since the war began. Again, Russia is not intended to restore something neither at the frontline nor in its rear, and this fact makes this war even more senseless.

Your reasoning aligns with Russian authorities, who consider themselves at war against NATO due to arms deliveries (though NATO does much more). Even Putin doesn't consider these weapon supplies to Ukraine as a 'full-scale' war with NATO.

    The U.S. and NATO do not have a defense treaty with Ukraine, as such, direct assistance to Ukraine is mired in global politics. If this defense treaty had existed the U.S. might have enacted a plan similar to the Lend Lease program offered to the U.K. during WWII. NATO needs to begin retooling for war right now. Putins Russia is dangerous and is not a industrial light wiegt. I know that no sane person wants a war but war is always upon us, and this one that's coming might just end us. Peace out future war fighters

    Good news is that Ukraine will get back to the industrial and economic level of 1992 in about 70 yeas time from today. So its future is bright as it was credited with the second economic growing position after Russia in the ranks of the former USSR countries

    Limiting Ukraine in weapon use will prolong the war, Russia needs to be disabled on their own territory, Putin threatening to use nuclear weapons would be a last resort. Go all out to stop this invasion and reduce the deaths and suffering, and then hold Russia accountable??
