These kind of races on soft ground with an uphill finish are as an analogy like a 400 meters athletic run. The jockey on Dutch Decoy knew how the horse ran. I should imagine that 7 furlongs or longer is its obvious running distance.

Incredible. 'went like a rocket' wouldn't do it justice. Unbelievable speed in that final half furlong.

Mate, the leaders went hard in soft ground and fell in a hole at the end. It gives the effect that the winner was flying, but it was slowing down just like the rest of them.

Wow!!!! I love seeing races like this! What a remarkable horse! The way he runs and his long strides at the end there were seriously amazing! Horses are truly remarkable beautiful animals.

My local track. The ground nearest the near rail is often much faster than the rest of the track when there's been lots of rain. The other horses also set too strong a pace for the conditions, and tired towards the end.

I wonder why no one is commenting on the whip use on Dutch Decoy. Instead calling his performance "incredible", "impressive" and all other kinds of words that do not include "running because he was beaten"! And yes, I'm a horse owner and I had a horse that loved to run fast. Never had to use a whip on him to get his best efforts.

So all horses are the same? It's funny, I never did my best when people told me I was good enough and could accomplish anything, I always did my best when someone told me I couldn't do it - because my determination to prove them wrong drove me harder. Different people respond differently to different inputs. The same is true with horses (and other animals). And considering this one WON THE RACE, I'd say the rider understood the animal under him very well.

@@AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp I've races, and i don't agree with the whip rules, it should be upto the jockey when to use the whip and how many times it's used, unfortunately some horses do need the whip hard to keep them focused.

@@joe-lc5ci I don’t necessarily disagree Joe. I have horses with Colin Tizzard. I had one jump the last clear at Ludlow and was collared on the line due, in my opinion, to my jockey failing to use the whip sufficiently thus allowing the winning jockey, who threw the kitchen sink at his horse, to win by a shd. Needless to say, I have told Colin that the jockey won’t be riding my horses again. Modern day whips are so light compared to the old style crops, that I really don’t think they hurt the horse at all.

@@AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp Use of the whip hard makes the difference between winning and losing, your jockey was to soft with his whip, i would have used the whip more and harder, this type of whip does sting the horse.

Gelding by Dutch Art wins on 30 Aug 2019, on gd to soft - 6f. Won again as a 5yo on 6 Jan 2022 on AW at Newcastle over 7f.

how?? the horse was clearly well better the rest, a top trainer.. the jockey just kept pushing it till the horse decided what to do, not great at all, unless you think he planned that.

I've probably watched it a dozen times since and, whenever I see it again, with half a furlong to go, I still don't think he has a prayer..... (Sadly, I wasn't one of those people who got on him in-running at 240. Nice for those that did though.)

@@jinrestored6857 I’m sure you’re sentimental towards him and he’s a lovely animal I’m sure. But he’s not a good horse. In his last win, the 2nd Sir Maxi last won a race in Oct 2020. A class 5. And the 3rd recently won a class 6. Now you might have took umbrage to my comment and I meant no offence, but I know my racing and he isn’t a good horse. I stand corrected, the horse is still running. I can’t keep up with them all can I? Touchy sod.
