How hard is it to be a crane operator?

You can't imagine how inspiring it is to see you having the patience to teach your 8 (now 9) year old daughter to operate your crane. The bonding experience and your love for your daughter cannot be measured. By the way, I used to own a crane and rigging company (sold and went onto another profession) and picking heavy loads takes great skill and an intimate knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of whatever crane you are operating. I could see the makings of that skill in your daughter. I remember one day my 5 year old daughter (now 52 and still crazy) climbing up the lattice of one of my cable cranes. Your daughter should she so choose, would have an extremely lucrative and successful career as a crane or equipment operator. Good luck to you both.

It's not hard once you can catch and stabilize the load when swinging or booming up or down and then stopping. I literally practiced on a few cranes for 2 days and my crane operator career took off. It's 18 years later and the only time I've been off work is when I chose to be off. Your daughter will definitely be a prodigy. Great video.

@@gpd4705Forget the marines. Go waste your life fighting a war for corrupt politicians. Don’t do it. Get into the trades. In my state, crane operators can make $250,000 a year. Union operating engineers. Make about $75 an hour and OT is double time. Look into a union in your state.

Honestly, my brother, that is the best thing I’ve seen on KZread in quite a long time! I took my boys out to the top hand competition a couple years back, and they loved being up in that cab. For one of my boys 10 year birthday brought them up into the tower crane! Much love and blessings to y’all. PS 100% sub!!

My kids all learned early on many diferent trucks in oilfield. Interestingly enough, once all operators had to have their crane tickets, every safety feature imaginable, operators bent booms non stop, wrecked turret brgs. It was great for business. Great to see young one learning. Younger generation need to learn from their fathers.so they learn some common sense, what world is lacking

I've been registered as a student with NCCCO for 2 months now. I haven't made any progress because I don't know any operators and I was kinda intimidated. This Video is 1 of the top 5 most influential videos I've seen in 40 years. Your daughter is only 8 but she's very well groomed. The average 8 year old wouldn't even be a candidate because they'd be somewhere being a playful immature child. Keep up the good work.

Well done, are the leavers only back and forth, ie not joysticks with forward/backward and left/right? Took my my nephews 5 and 7 at the time and showed them how to run an excavator. They got the hang of the basic functions quite quickly, the tiltrotator controls was a bit harder though as their hands were a bit small to get a good use out of the rollers.
