He would have gotten all his problems fixed with a little money under the table. The inspection officer would have gotten $30k and a free Porsche. The lady at the DMV would have been invited to a nice dinner and an envelope with $50k. All in he would have had a shoe box used car dealer around $100k instead of blowing money on that condo and renting out the nose for 2 years. Then free tax on Porsche's for decades.

He tried to become a licensed dealer so he could temp tag cars he bought in his travels and sold on regardless of it happening within the state or not. Which is actually pretty shady. If he went to become a bonded dealer he wouldn't have had the state trooper showing up for an inspection. That only happens for a licensed dealer and they expect to see an actual car dealership with facilities when they show up. He was hoping they would give him a free pass and didn't. So now he's butt hurt.

From the sound of things Doug was trying to scam the state and they caught on. I live in New Hampshire and know multiple people who are bonded or licensed dealers here. He tried to become a licensed dealer so he could get temp tags and thought he was special and didn't need to have the facilities to be one in the state. If he had tried to become a bonded dealer there wouldn't have been a State Trooper showing up for an inspection. This is because a bonded dealer's license is meant for someone who might sell more than four cars a year like a hobbyist who fixes them up. Or for someone who wants to be a dealer for a lower cost, do it part-time, etc.

So you were basically trying to scam NH and OHIO and got caught. I live in Maine near the NH border, and there was a time when it was very common to buy and register the car in NH. But over the years, they have been clamping down on it to the point where its pretty much impossible

I live in Boston now, I grew up in NH. It's like a 10yr time warp and ass backwards up there. No sales tax, no motorcycle helmet law, insurance for auto & Moto isn't required, also no seatbelt law. But they passed a hands free law a couple of years ago. Which is fine for most states (and generally great for safety), it is contradictory to the "Live Free or Die" mantra. Very scenic though.

The problem with New Hampshire is that you can’t have tint and emissions are strict. On the upside you can have any car from ‘95 or before and it doesn’t apply for a few tests. I live on a dirt road, so if a car is going to be low, it better be bagged.

Weird experience, after my dad sold his Subaru dealership in NH he got another dealer license for this purpose as well as to not have to register all the cars we had at the time and it was nowhere near this difficult. Maybe it was because everybody in the field knew who he was since he was prominent in the small world of NH dealers

First I was amazed that the HOA would be OK with you running a business from the condo. Then, when you said the HOA president blocked you, I had to wonder just who did you talk to that told you it was OK. Lastly, I just kept thinking that you really needed to make the acquaintance of a really good attorney or two. It is amazing how many times these petty individuals will fold when faced with a lawsuit and having their property frozen by a court until the the issue is settled.

I just started sending old pickup trucks from Idaho to New Hampshire to flip. No rust trucks are impossible to find up there. I pay $100 to register them, NH doesn’t title anything older than 99’. I sell the truck with a NH bill of sale and the NH registration. I hope they don’t throttle my truck registrations at the DMV. I can get my Mom and Dad to register them as well since they are always cash sales under $10,000.....hopefully 😕

In New Hampshire you can get away with damn near anything, but it has to be your name on the deed. That’s what you get with a state run on property taxes.
