Stop-motion fits Guillermo's storytelling so well. It's the best animated Pinocchio adaptation imo. Animation definitely needs more recognition especially stop-motion!

His first big movie Chronos was supposed to be stop motion, but some thieves stole the puppets so he was forced to go live action. Before that he used to make stop motion short films with his toys and a potato.

I think its crazy how much disrespect and how little acknowledgement animation gets in the industry. And I think CGI and made it even worse. Because nowadays, we don't really get much animation as much as we get full CGI movies, which i don't even know if that is considered animation. Like how disney just does lazy CGI remakes of their animated films that everyone actually like. The amount of disrespect for the genre every time that happens is insane...

@@F34RDSoldier805 yes the industry doesn't respect animation which should be considered as a technique and not a genre, I hate when people talk about it as a genre. But CGI? It's a lot different than traditional techniques but it's art too indeed. It's not lazy as you think and there's so much behind a single Disney model. Look at how they worked to their hair models since Rapunzel to Encanto, the technology and artistry behind every single lock is amazing!! As a 2d animator I'm still a fan of CGI but only when it's well used. My dream is to see more 2d movies like Wolfwalkers. People think 3D is just an evolution of 2D but it's this way of thinking that's destroying the idea of animated cinema, not the technique per se. It's the way of thinking of the Oscars fan, mainstream cinema "fans" who don't even care about animation. Also I agree with you, the remakes make me so sick, the new Lion King has 0.001% of the Og's art and emotion.
Pinnochio's VA really nailed it. His performance always felt real and authentic rather than stiff and wooden. (heh, puns) It's interesting how the animators for the stop motion had to get into the headspace of the characters as much as the voice actors themselves.
Fun fact: Spazzatura means "Garbage" in Italian, which says a lot about his relationship with Volpe, and bring us a great lesson about what we allow from people in exchange for just a little "love", "comfort" or "acceptance".

Everything about this film is cinematic perfection, including the soundtrack which is woefully underrated - it deserves more attention.

This movie is absolutely beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite movies of 2022. Guillermo Del Toro should make more Stop-Motion animated feature films in the future.

First I thought looked like Spike from Bob The Builder and thought the movie would make me sleep. BUT I WAS WRONG OMG When I first saw this was a musical I was so EXICTED and I watch it and omg tears came out my eyes and alot. But this is the best Netflix Pinocchio movie I seen. I can't say in general I kinda didn't enjoy the war or life scenes it creeps me out and worries me but everything else was great. However I don't think it beats Disneys Clasic Old Pinocchio Movie that movie has fun characters and creatures and has nostalgic music
will keep watching many details happy for the education i truly am
What a breath of fresh air this movie is. More kids need to be exposed to it, even if it has a dramatic context to it. Mixes reality and fantasy in a masterful process and storytelling.
This absolutely amazing film puts the Disney remake to utter shame. I could go on and on about how much Guillermo del Toro’s film is a trillion times better, however I’m not going to. The character designs are amazing!

I mean I think that it is a comment about modern world instagram/ youtube everyone wants and can be a celebrity, and everyone just seek that perfect match of personality that everyone would love. I underestimated a simple tale, simple tale in the right hand and in right momenrt can be very powerful.

Hello, Nice to meet you. It does have a mind, but when it shut down; its dead. The mind is not awake. Not sure how the mind really gets out of the exterior shells. The wooden doll would not have a mind, unless it still living in the ground like a plant. Do plants have minds? Can they really think? Or is the mind more like a robot?
Exact opposite of Disney's de-make that released earlier this year. A complete pile of junk, that cost a boatload of cash.
I thought it was creepy.....
Meh, computer animation is so much simpler and easier.

@@chiconpeach I shouldn't have to. Hollywood has this crazy accent issue in movies set in different lands, everyone always sounds like englishmen. Like Jojo Rabbit, how are they in the tail end of Nazi Germany and all the kids have a British accent. Or any movie set in ancient Rome or Greece. Its much bigger thing than watching an alternative dub.

@@alchemistofsteel8099 there's literally dubs. Anime dubs & subs have nothing to do with what they do in American Cinema. 🤣 Also its clearly not the same. I didn't say anything about the language being used. I'm talking about accents. They have an Italian Pinocchio on Amazon and its actually a really dope film. I'm just saying they coulda found some Italian voice actors. These characters are all British sounding in wartime Italy. My point isn't negated because you wanna bring up Black Lagoon. Original Japanese anime is dubbed in Japanese because its made in Japan. Pinnochio is an old Italian story thats been adapted many times. It would be cool to see English speaking characters with an Italian accent. Instead of the British accent always being the default.
lol many people do all the hand work, stop-motion work and del Toro just put his name on it without any effort
This looks great, I was worried he directed that awful rendition with the actor with the terribly strong and annoying gay voice

He was younger when he recorded the voice. Now is is a teenager obviously his voice is more deep, didn't it happen to you? Lol. He didn't record the voice in one single day, the movie itself took more than a decade to be finished. Just to give you a more clear example: Have you watch Avatar: The way of water? If you have or have not, just google the the actor that plays spider (Is the only human kid in the movie) and look how grownup he is from the actual movie, to the premiere.
