If we go back and look at how Greece won the Euro 2004, it's hard to understand how they pulled it off. Because they didn’t have big names or experience in big competitions; they hadn’t played in the Euros for 24 years. And before that, they only qualified for two other tournaments: the UEFA Euro 1980 and the 1994 FIFA World Cup. And they never won a game and scored just one goal when they lost 3-1 to Czechoslovakia, and they managed to collect one point with a draw against West Germany. And in the 1994 World Cup, they lost all three matches. That’s why what they did in 2004 shocked everyone, even the players and Greeks couldn’t believe it themselves. So how did it all happen? How did Greece win the 2004 UEFA Euros?.

Well...we where playing very well in Southafrica World cup and the Euro following...Santos who won the Euro with Portugal was building up on that legacy and the players back than played in Inter Milan, AS Roma, Befica Lisabona, FC Fulham, Werde Bremen, Bolton, so they made their fortune. People have to realize that we are a small country and we cant effort to have every new Generation Wonderkids...those players where the so called golden ones....I was there and I thank God that I was able to experience this Wonder which was surely not only with the Help of God, but also with the God given Talent and the Courage of the Greeks. Proud to be one.
Whoever played Greece to win was basically made a millionaire. Odds were insane.
As Greeks, we have always had civil wars and rivals. This team taught us two important things: unity and discipline. These are the only two lessons the Greek people need to understand.

Greece didn't advance cause of a better goal difference. They had the same GD as Spain. They advanced because they had scored more goals than Spain.
