I enjoyed this review. It was very chill and informative. Basic MP3 players aren't that much less expensive than one of these RG28XXs. The audiophile grade stuff, pretentiously called DAPs in the hobby because lossy MP3s are seen as inferior to lossless codecs, are a lot more money. I generally use my phone for music; but, with "advances" in phones lately I've been giving some consideration to going old school and putting my MP3 and FLAC collection on a separate device. This thing, I think, is smaller than an iPod Classic while having a lot more functionality. As something primarily used for gaming it doesn't make much sense to me; but, as an MP3 player that can also do a reasonable job of playing some retro games I like on the go, I think it makes a lot of sense. Along with the Miyoo A30 the RG28XX is something to think about, if nothing else.

Its a winner for old games. It can do ps1 era games but the detail is a lot for small screens. For handhelds and 8/16 bit its excellent

Great video and I love you format. Definitely subscribing. Quick question: I'm debating between this and 280v. What is your take on this comparison as pocketable handhelds and which one would you choose? BTW the pricing is not that low in EU and with shipping it's 70€ which then begs the question if one should not pay a bit extra and get 353m.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Between the 28xx and 280v go for the 28xx, the screen, battery and performance is much better. But if you can get a 353 for a similar price that's the better option. -Aish

This will be great when it's priced to sell. Given the regular sales that took the RG35XX-H down to $42-ish this week ($38 with stacked coupons). This will be more than a collector's item when it eventually hits $34 or so during proper sales.

I'm not a big fan of the pixel so the 28xx wins easy.

If they would have just thrown wifi/bt on it like other micro devices on the market, this thing could have been a home run, but not having access to Retro Achievements is a dealbreaker for me. I'll be waiting for the eventual release of an RG28XX Plus.

@@retrohandhelds i think 3:2 is a healty compromise you have more screen to 4:3 or 1:1 games and the 16:9 games you can scale full screen stretching nearly nothing and if is in android you can scale to 3d pixel wiouth stretching, I think linux can use wide-screen hacks to?

Hi! I just recieved my RG28XX and I am wondering - how are you guys getting fullspeed with N64 and PSX via RA? For me it is terrible. PSX works fullspeed only in standalone emulator. I tried different RA cores and setting and nothing helps :( Games you showed here like Super Mario or Mario Kart are unplayable for me and I am not sure what to do.

I didn't really have to do anything for either system to get them to work, PS should be set out of the box and for N64 just add the games. You can try changing the gfx plug in but you shouldnt need much more. Try resetting the RA settings and if that doesn't work flash a new SD card, they have updates available that are only a few gb in size. -Aish

So they took away PPSSPP emulator in the RG28xx but left it in the RG35XXh?

I think the screen rotation was the issue, you can adjust that in RetroArch but PPSSPP doesn't have that option. -Aish

The chip isn't powerful enough for Saturn, you might be able to get some games working but it's not going to be a good experience. For me Saturn gets put into a higher tier of emulation because of how demanding it can be, it's right above N64 and Dreamcast. -Aish
