Already getting the vibe this will be one that would be easy to get carried away with... which is a good thing, it means it sounds good, it just means you'll need to slash yourself in the face with cold water and remember your a adult that's a professional trying to add some edge now and not a rebelling teenager that forgets to wash

I really like the GUIs of Goodhertz plugins...no rackears, no glowing tubes
It looks good, it has some nice functions built in; and it oversamples. All very positive! It's hard to judge the sound in detail on KZread, but you've shown off its range very nicely. Thank you!
Wow! Gonna check this out! Thanks for demoing 🥳
Such a satisfying versatile distortion plugin. Thanks for the review
Awesome! This plugin looks and sounds really enticing! Will check it out soon
I Love That Plug-in 🤘
I love this plugin sooo much👀
Gotta pick this up asap! Great review as always!
I wanna thank you personally for showing me this plugin. OMG - I LOVE IT. For me, one of the best in a year.. +
In terms of tube boxes there is Freqport - Freqtube FT-1. I think there may have been some issues mentioned on forums but can't remember what. there is also the whitestone audio P331 but that only has one kind of tube. One seems more subtle than the other but there are so few audio examples it makes me think maybe they haven't taken off.
I haven’t used this plugin, but I’m pretty sure I saw in another demo of it that you need to adjust the calibration slider under the filter to set the auto gain.

You should know about Liciel Franco's work (a Brazilian great mad audio engineer). He already made some of those 'tube only things' you're looking for.
Fantastic overview and I learned something!
Thank you for all the useful information and explanations
Just Tubes sounds niiiice! Thank you sir for the vid, nice plug-in. BTW, I bought Focal Shape Twin speakers. Sounds amazing!
My gosh I absolutely love this plugin, I use it on almost everything
Thanks for the video! Sound like a great plugin!!
Thank you for your explanation of foldback distortion. We can talk about aliasing bla bla bla, but the way you just dropped it was very clear at least to me.
Interesting plug-in. Good review
Do all Goodhertz please! I would watch your videos even for the ones I have already bought! :D
In addition to the Culture Vulture and FT-1 mentioned already, there's also the Black Box HG-2 which sounds phenomenal. Plugin Alliance has a VST version of it that's pretty good.
Vulf Compressor is one of my fav tools ever. GHZ kills it
Sounds really good to my ear.
Do you think that i you are mixing with lots of saturation and compression, if it would be advantageous just to run a session at a higher sample rate, like 96kHz? I specifically mean in terms of not having to upsample and downsample as often if you are using plugin chains where the majority of your plugins would be doing this anyways. I know there are some advantages for timestretching audio at higher sample rates as well, but I am primarily interested in which approach would be more computationally efficient.
it's interesting that there are 'preamp' tubes (like 12AX7's which are dual stage, I.e. of the type found in the 'gain' section of a guitar amp), AND power amp tubes like 6L6 (which are usually run with like ~ 400V plate voltage).
@ramspencer5492
Жыл бұрын
12ax7's can be used in clean, audiophile tube designs. They don't have to be driven to obvious distortion.
I would buy your „just tube box“. Because that’s the only addition I need for my digital synths.
Hey Man! Thanks for all the work you do! SSL is having a sale. X limit and x gate for only 50$. Was wondering what you think, maybe you could do a video to see if they are any good?
Wytse, if you want a GREAT "tube box" that uses alot of different (and very uncommon tubes), there is none better than the Thermionic Culture Vulture Mastering Plus. Designed by Vic Kearney (he was a designer on the original RCA tube console), I have 3 separate versions and they all get used regularly (I use my custom Mastering Plus version for, well, mastering, and then I have the Vulture Super 15 and the 20th Anniversary Vulture which I use all over the place). Actually I believe Thermionic Culture has just come out with a new special edition of the Culture Vulture, might be called the "Ultra Vulture" or something like that. You would love it, I'm sure. For your purposes, I would say just make sure you avoid the "standard" Vulture. The special editions and the Mastering versions have detented controls and better matched tubes.
A box with tubes that works as a plugin does exist. It's called Freqport - Freqtube FT-1 and i'd really love to see you review it.
Hej Cool Video Thank you! I have a question, are you still running your projects at 192 khz?
Great track
Dude! If you ever make a tube box can you make a video on how you went about it. I'd love that!
Of course we all want to know did you use Tupe for the distortion in the intro?
Nice lots of control here, i wish it had mid/side too.
Hey Whitse, I agree with you about oversampling, I only use digital tubes, amps and comps/limiters with oversampling to get a better melodic result in the first place. It is as you as said. To describe what you just mentioned is this: imagine yourself standing in a sports hall with a gumball in your hand and you throw it in a curve, so the ball keeps flying until it hits the wall. And at the moment it hits the wall there are two ways the gumball might continue bouncing back (the Nyquist point) from that wall: up to the ceiling or back to the ground. If it flies upwards to the ceiling, it may land everywhere and you can't really detect, where to fetch it (no oversampling) , but if it bounces downwards you can clearly see where it could be catched (oversampling). Hope I described this concept well enough. :D If I'm wrong with it, please feel free to correct me.

Makes me wonder if the history of audio recording happened some other way, what other kinds of distortion would we enjoy but just don't realize it because it wasn't an artifact of the tech. For example what if audio hardware was somehow based on seashells and there was some spirally sloshy echo effect we would have liked but we haven't happened upon it yet.

Exactly like if audio where digital at first. I'm probably sure we would not like analogue as much because it would be no more nostalgic... I am sure the digital sound would have been nostalgic as much as analogue is and a lot of peoples would say that was way better before ahah.
Once again,, thank God someone finally came up with a distortion plugin!😖
Like the drum sound a lot before the plugin , any tips for that?
I'm pretty sure that 'cal trim' on the right is the autogain your looking for.
Would you give slate digital FG-2x compressor/limiter a chance to review? I’m curious how you rate it compared to PRO L2. Thanks!

Can you make a Video about the new A-Console by Sonimus. Its an API emulation with stereo crosstalk and nice analog saturation similar to kazrog True iron
The look on your face in the vid pic says it all 😂
Hmm ... i think I know what you'll be reviewing next. FTSB ?
I'm using a VST that emulates the sound of the S950, which is similar in principle to a bitcrusher (though more subtle) and there is also part of me that is nostalgic for the tinny sound of terrible mp3s. Dubstep did seem to love that bitcrushed sound, and there is definitely a love for low-bit video game music. I have to wonder if there will eventually be a resurgence for the imperfections of lower-grade digital when ultra-high sample rates become the norm with improved technology. I am definitely sceptical of claims that people inherently like analogue saturation for any other reason than it has a recognisable and familiar character and it's louder.

Actually, such a resurgence has already been going on to a certain extent. Goodhertz (the same ones as in this video) was the first to try their hand at it with their plugin "lossy", which is a plugin specifically dedicated to replicating lossy compression. Since then a couple of companies, mostly the more creative ones imo, have thrown their hat in the ring, abberant DSP's Digitalis is a whole digital degredation suite in one plugin, unfiltered audio's LO-FI-AF is a general use digital and analog lofi effect chain thing, and there's even a simple free one called Codec.

Im totally aware of what the explanation of oversampling is. (not that i think it tells me alot in therms of meaning, nor that im so shure many out there possibly feel much about a technical explonation (besides that something gets added without oversampling , whatever it is, or that its kinda "un", "unsomething" (unharmonic))) still: i wanted to say that in i personally turn oversampling rather off cause my taste, last time when i told you about my decision to turn it off. this is my subjective oppinion.
@erewrw1906
Жыл бұрын
so yeah, with that , i basically said also that i poersonally rather turn oversampling off, because i preffere it to oversampling enabled (not always, but most times). atleast its not necessarly a major thing to my ears, IMHO

You could call your tube box, KZread, because you tube and that's all you do. It'll be a good name, see if it's available.
The oversampling tip just explained everything wrong with my 1/2 of my bass mixing. JFC
For the love of god will someone teach this man how to midi learn a gain knob. I don't know how Reaper works but in S1 it's quite literally a keypress. Takes quite literally two seconds to map a couple of controls. That is if the main gripe after all this time is still that Analogue lets you turn two knobs at once.

What I meant by snake oil is not that it's necessarily a bad product but it's not what is advertised. It is aggressively advertised as the ultimate problem solver for monitoring which seems to be bull crap. You know what I mean?
