    I was trying to remember how many decorated wrestlers have come into the UFC or MMA and I think the list is quite large. Just off the top of my head there’s Sonnen, Tito, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Cormier, and Coutoure who were all very accomplished wrestlers. Ed Ruth is another 3x NCAA champion and former Penn Stater just like Nickals who’s currently competing in Bellator. So yeah the point about how much does it matter is a good one. It seems at the UFC level the guys are so accomplished that you can’t just expect to outwrestle them every time. The background will help him, but there’s many, many other variables at play.

    @@AllenCarterNews And that's what young, 26 year-old Bo hasn't integrated into his MMA career. He thinks since he's so good IN WRESTLING, that he'd just take Whittaker, Cannonier, Izzy, Khamzat al down and do to them what he wishes. THAT's in his ideal wrestling world. He's getting into MMA (still not signed by the UFC yet) but he still thinks like a pure wrestler. In MMA people like Whittaker, Izzy et al would KO him before he could take them down. He has ZERO fear when he's taking another wrestler down, even an elite one... so he thinks MMA guys would be EXACTLY like that.... but just many orders of magnitude EASIER to take down, since they're not elite wrestlers, etc. He's lucky the UFC is bringing him up slowly, due to his exceptional talents in pure wrestling. If that talent is nurtured and grow, as he upgrade his striking, BJJ, and other major aspects of MMA, he could become a great MMA guy. But, again, I giggled silly, when he said RIGHT NOW he could just take Izzy down and do what he wants, IF the UFC were to allow him to fight Izzy. No, he won't. As Sonnen said: if Floyd or Canelo or Tyson or Gordon Ryan were to come to MMA (to have come to MMA, in some alterante reality where they're in their prime, with MMA as developed as it is right now) --- they would be KOed or subbed before they know what's up or down. Anyway, I doubt Bo would even get passed Khamzat, right now, and Khamzat is just 27 like he is, still very inexperienced, too.... 1, 2, or 3 years from now, we don't know, perhaps he could. But right now, most top 5 at 185 would just punch him silly. And he DOES have very decent striking ability, for a guy still in his earliest journeyman days, pre-UFC....

    there seems to be some sentiment below that bo is a wrestler who just turned pro and that his background outside of wrestling is slim. I remember something like 6-7 years ago hearing about how he liked grappling and submission stuff and was already toying with striking back then.. ...and thinking "why is he wasting his time with the grappling stuff and dreaming about UFC when he's got the potential to be a world class wrestlers". He hasn't really been tested yet in a sanctioned fight, but he has extreme stamina, the will to win, the will to train hard and *know*, not just mindless training, and he is unreal as a wrestler not just with takedowns, but being faster and stronger than everyone and knowing how to get positions reversed in a hurry. He tied and then lost a second honest match 11-5 to J-den Cox, the world champ and has dominated other guys like Downey. I remember him flipping nick gravina, who is a mediocre wrestler who tries to out muscle everyone - flipping him like a lid on a teapot.

    Chael once said that the Elites that do one thing great aren't considered "well rounded" cuz they never have to show anything else. That's why they Jiri-Glover fight was so impressive by Jiri to me. No one knew he had a decent ground game. And as far as Chael saying Champs like Izzy that do one thing great so they don't have to show anything else, he's wrong. Usman is a great example. Go back and watch the season where he was on TUF and then watch either fight with Colby. He was strictly a wrestler who now has a world class stand up game. What makes him the P4P #1

    Nah, both Colby and Usman are wrestlers and neither have a "world class stand up" game. They are good no doubt and can hang with strikers because the striker is thinking about the take down and leaving themselves exposed trying to stop the take down.

  • @executivelifehacks6747

    @executivelifehacks6747

    Hard to say for sure. Part of the chin equation is having a head and jaw constructed to require greater force to move equivalent distance than other head and jaw structures. Big, wide head, short, thick neck, nestled in meaty traps is the ideal head and neck physiology. Think Gastelum, Hunt, Cormier. Jaw should be equivalently wide to fit the head, rugged, with a chin that is not too deep, as you want to minimize the lever to torque the jaw and head with. More Mark Hunt, less Todd Duffee. Then there are the unseen aspects of brain resiliency that keep the lights on. I would expect the likes of Mark Hunt to have some skull/brain adaptations besides the above listed to survive unarmored melee combat, which happened routinely in Polynesian islands in history. Probably more robust spine and cranium. Best thing for Bo is to hit and not get hit, like Chael did for the most part. Has the skills to make that happen.

  • @moto-fl3rd

    @@executivelifehacks6747 sure structure has some to do with it but it's neck strength. Boxers train the neck. I've seen Triple G do "push ups" with just his head and Canelo do exercises with weights on his head. And those guys can take a punch.
