Turkish shotguns popular in Australian market as lever action, not illegal, (yet), a lot are pretty average quality but get the job done, Adler straight pulls are becoming popular here and in my opion a stronger and more reliable action, but nothing like the quality pump actions prior to buy back,,,, those were the days..love this channel, brings back memories from when you could own stuff

I believe these are mainly targeted toward the Australian market. Down under, they're not allowed pump shotguns but lever-operated ones are OK, AFAIK.

another Australian here .that is correct i bought one a few months ago it does not replace the pump i handed in around 1996 but it is still fun to own , at least a 1000 rounds some sticking and ejection issues but never thought the lever to be tight or harsh been the best part about it i found. shot 2 different semi auto bennellis in the last few weeks that made me a little sad that i owned a pump when i was about 17 now at 50 odd i cant be trusted to own a decent riffle/gun

The French also have quirks with pump actions. For reasons related to an action film at the time the law was passed France puts handguns, AR15s and pump shotguns into their "B" category, while bolt action rifles in non-military calibers, automatic shotguns with 3 rounds, lever guns and single shots are in the "C" category. So presumably if Quigley Down Under had come out that year the Sharp's rifle would be up there.

pump actions were illegalised because big suit wearing fatties were angry that criminals would get unregistered black market grade pump action shotguns (HAHA JOKES ON THEM CRIMINALS STILL HAVE PUMP ACTIONS THOSE DUMB FAT CAT CASH STACKERS) they would scrape off the serials so they couldnt find where they were made and charge the dealer even though modern firearm laws would make buying them to use as criminal dealings quite tricky for them. I have 200% no idea how nobody has committed a mass shooting with the amount of black market grade kalashnikovs that are currently in australian mafia possession (every few months they do elite raids on bikers or anybody and they pop up from time to time, some of them are even home-made I genuinely, in my whole heart. Believe that there will be a mass shooting with an illegal firearm such as a thompson or uzi that is unregistered and illegally brought here from another country through bribery or whatnot, we're just waiting for that day to come and somehow by gods will it hasnt happened yet Pump actions are fantastic. Reliable, solid, strong, and quite light with the ability to carry 5-6 rounds in it and not actually have to reload once you're done with your hunt Adler came in and realised "hey you know lever action shotguns arent that bad why dont you try them" and honestly from my experience with friends who own them they are obviously cheap but the reliability comes with the price, they say the usual "cheap copy of a pump action" and I'd agree By the way we spend a heap on the military even though we're going to get our asses blasted by the chinese or indonesians when another war hits. Cant wait until those politicians sell us out for their safety just like they've been doing since this desolate hellscape first federated!

Thanks for the videos USOG, you are a gentleman and a scholar and it's always a pleasure and a previlege to see some of the guns you bring to your Chanel. On this topic I would like to say that I have 2 Adler's lever 12g. One is a synthetic stock with a 20inch barrel and the other a wood stock with a 28inch barrel. After shooting at least 3000 rounds of mixed trap loads and slugs on each one I must say that the guns are solid and never gave me issues after the first 250 rounds. When brand new the action would stay locked sometimes after a shot, and I would just turn it around and bring the stock to my knee and pull the lever hard and it would eject. The only complain I have is that the one with the wood stock doesn't have the same fit as the synthetic one. To close the lever all the way you have to press really hard and it's not a fluid motion. The synthetic stock doesn't have this problem and I'm lucky that it fits me like a glove. Once again, thanks for the chanel, it's highly educational and interesting. Regards from Canada.

I have the same gun with 26 inch barrel. Action was stiff but smooths out very well after 100 rounds or so. Ejection can be weak if you don't push the last leg of lever travel hard enough. After 2 years owning it, taking it to weekly trap shooting and some 3 guns events, had bird/buck/slugs going down the pipe, everything held up ok. For the price (less than $300 canadian dollar) I would not hesitate to buy it again.

Hi Paul - Great to hear from you. Yes - I don't know why they didn't take a little extra design time and smooth operation out and maybe change some tolerances. I've seen some broken levers and pivot points since the video. In the video I think I say aluminum can't be welded - which is of course wrong ( I used to weld aluminum ladders) - what I should have said is welding thin and small aluminum parts is not so easy. Anyway, someone needs to release an upgraded version with better linkages; although other owners have fired some of these thousands of rounds and had no issues. I guess there are a lot of variables. Best to you in the lucky country!

I have the Adler A-110 lever action, 20" synthetic stock. Here in Australia it's quite hard to justify to the authorities a need for what we call a "Category C longarm" being a pump or auto shotgun. So the Adler and the Pardus LAX-12 lever shotguns, and a couple of lesser know brands, are selling quite well. Mine was around $830AUD. We don't really have any choice, unless we want to stick with double barrel shotguns. I got mine for summer rabbit shooting when numbers can be high. I've shot a few foxes with it and also a few pigs. It works OK most of the time. Your criticisms of the small pivot pins are correct. These certainly won't be a gun you proudly hand down from generation to generation, LOL. Initially the Adler was also available with a seven shot magazine but there was a massive furore over the "new technology high capacity gun" so we are limited to the five shot mag version. In addition to the lever shotguns there are now a couple of brands of straight pull shotguns, made by Pardus and SHS, again both Turkish brands.

Good to know - and public ignorance regarding firearms is a remarkable thing around the world. From my tree stand I'd say a lever is about a pump which is about a semi - so just allow them all - but I'm probably oversimplifying public policy things. Anyway, if the confusion allows levers then I guess one should leave well enough alone and enjoy/use the lever. Thanks for writing.

@BloodontheBlade when I said get around the gun laws I was referring to getting around the spirit of the laws, not the letter of them. The spirit of the laws was to prohibit rapid firing shotguns except for a few groups. But, by leaving lever action shotguns in category B, it allows people to get around the spirit of the proscription placed on pump action shotguns which are in category C.

Hi Matt, in principle that is an interesting concept. In practice, what a piece of junk. The levers operation seems kind of Savage model 99, but a very anemic representation of the concept. There is no doubt in my mind that one if not a few of the actions cycling components will fail. And it won't take more than a couple of hundred rounds, if that many, to do so. The pivot anchoring point of the lever is very weak indeed, and not useing a two piece screw, as the Savage 99 does, is introducing a weak point into the chain, one of many by the way. It would seem that in the company's rush to market, the design engineering teams recommendations were likely ignored to save money. And instead of steel, aluminum was used in the hope that unwary buyers would not notice the flaw, and it is a major flaw. The small and flimsy offset action bar is improperly sized, improperly linked/attached and it's component base material is again I'll suited if it's aluminum. It should be at the least something along the lines of 4140 steel case hardened. I also see that it uses a rear trigger guard cross bolt safety, which when on safe would be dangerously close to the levers action bar. That is if the action can be operated with the safety on. Either way I don't care for its placement on this design. It would seem obvious that this was modified from a pump or auto to grab a specific market share in a jurisdiction where semiautomatic and pump action shotguns were prohibited. Greed at its best. I wonder if the ATFE here in the states would even allow importation of this disastrous design. I'm a bit surprised you have it in Canada. I would even prefer the Chinese copy of the Browning/ Winchester designed 1895 lever action 10 or 12 gauge shotgun over this time bomb. And that says a lot as that gun is very crudely made. It's a shame too, as the Turkish firearms industry over the last 15 years or so have come of age and are producing some nice quality and interesting designs of shotguns, pistols and rifles. Their own in house designed military rifle is well made and thought out and seems to get decent grades. Me, I would most definitely pass on this future pile of broken parts. The only solution would be to have a smith, with machine shop and forging abilities beyond what I'm set up for, make replacement parts out of steel to head off the inevitable disaster that WILL happen to this shotgun. And hopefully the lever or linkage will not snap off after a live round has been chambered !!! Ouch !!!

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns good riddance to a problem gun, huh? As an option though, I was mulling this over just for the mental exercise. Not having it to examine myself, I am considering the possibility of getting a lever and action linkage from a Marlin, Winchester, Henry, Rossi and the like and reshaping them to fit this gem. By heating to temperature to reshape and maybe doing a small weld or two this might be an effective fix. A Winchester style large loop lever may even have enough metal in it to facilitate a correct fabrication. These are avenues to approach rather than try to carve out what is needed by hand with files and elbow grease. Even close in size bar stock heated to temperature to reshape via a jig into correct form would be less work than doing so by hand. And milling the part out on a machine would be time consuming, non cost effective, and a lot of prep work in design and layout. Yup, I'd try the reforging to shape a similar component part first. I doubt I would have EVER bought one of these for myself, or even for the reference collection. But if a customer walked in with one, sure , why not. But up front let it be known that the fix will cost more than the price of the gun. Sorry yours failed so soon, but it's not like you didn't know it would happen. Moving on, next acquisition please. I'd love to see you do a video on some of the fine little Cooper Arms .22lr or the early Kimber 82's like the .22lr Super America's. Or an oddity like the only other pump action centerfire rifle, besides the Remington 760 series, made in the U.S from back in the day. The under appreciated Savage model 170. Even a piece on the prolific Charles Daley shotguns, or the nice Fausti style. Or a comparative analysis between the Anson & Deley boxlock and the sidekick actions and Greener cross bolt, under lever and other common bolting methods. Thanks for the kind words as usual. Stay safe, Bob

Hi Ragnar - when it comes to guns there are so many unusual laws based on even more unusual ideas. Anyway, I didn't know that pumps are being limited in Austria/SE Germany. I am aware that Australia declared pumps evil or some such thing. To me - this is an excellent opportunity for a manufacturer to come up with a high quality lever action. So far what we have are a .410 from Henry (there are some Winchester and Marlin .410s around as well but they are out of production) and the levers from Turkey - which are okay I guess. Still, would be nice to see a slick, modern (maybe gear driven) lever action - something like the BLR. I'll email Browning. Pressures are low and it should be not be that difficult to do. Thanks for writing.

I've only watched 3 or 4 of your videos but immediately picked up on the unusual pronunciation of "lever" (gets pronounced like "leaver") and "iron" (gets pronounced like "I run"). Is this an accent from some particular locale, or just a personal idiosyncrasy like Stewie Griffin and his "cool whip"?

Hi Jim, Thanks for noticing. I receive a few comments on pronunciation. I try to use a blend of pronunciations so there is something for everyone. Ga-rand and Ga-ronde and Grand; i-run and i-ron and ern, leever and laver and le'ver, Socko and Sako. Some of the pronunciations from certain places I have difficulty copying or even remembering sometimes - but all are interesting. I was corrected the other day: it is he-lee-coptor not hella-copter. Anyway, I like all of the different pronunciations so long as people understand one another. The British say toe-ma-to and others, toe-may-to. I even get my spelling wrong: Evidently it is not Mom - it is Mum. Room for everyone and everything on this great earth. All the best to you.

I believe in Turkey their are many different factory's with different names that produce what looks like the same guns. I don't think aluminum is acceptable for working an action, its inferior. I'd say Turkey makes beautiful guns that function. I can't speak about their endurance but they go bang. I wouldn't hesitate to take a Mossberg 500 any where and can handle most game. But I'd want a magnum for dangerous game. My Turkish Charles Daly is semi-auto it go's bang and is accurate its uncomfortable to operate big and long,..but not too heavy. I'd buy a Turkish pump gun I could evaluate that type very well. I always wanted a Armscore pump shotgun but I believe they rebrand Turkish guns now. I believe the trend now is to sell American's worthless junk. Perhaps a company will sell a up grade kit to make the Warrior dependable,.....like a steel lever and action bar and steel pins or screws so Australians can have dependable defense.

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns the worst thing about Lever Action Shotguns is that everyone knew they were legal since 1997 but no one wanted to invest the capital in manufacturing them in Australia with the possibility of getting legislated into bankruptcy but gun shy politicians. That said, it's rumoured Kerry Packer tipped some money into the ADI/Lithgow version of the 1887, but that never came to anything and by the time it did, Norinco had copied it. What Australia needed was a modern version of a Lever Action Shotgun, not retro replicas marketed for Cowboy Action style shooting. While the current batch of LAS's are modern, their Lever mechanisms are universally cheap and nasty designed to use existing PA components/architecture. What they should've done was revisit the Kessler LAS (as used in the marlin lever-matic) and/or base the Lever/drop trigger mechanism off the Winchester 88. If the end result was a product that cost $500 more than the current bunch of el-cheapo Turkish Guns, I'd still by one if it was reliable, functional and well made.

In reading books about John Browning, I don't think he was too enthusiastic about his 1887 lever action shotgun design. He himself preferred a pump design, but designed the 1887 simply because Winchester had always made lever actions and wanted to continue them into shotguns. Browning also designed many guns for Winchester that they had no intention of ever manufacturing, and only wanted to hold the patents to them to keep other manufacturers from using those design features.
