How Godzilla Minus One ”Knocked Out” Hollywood!

Hello and welcome to a deep dive on the incredible impact of "Godzilla Minus One!" How this cinematic masterpiece, crafted on a remarkable $15 million budget, delivered a knockout punch to Hollywood's big-budget extravaganzas.
Hollywood can learn alot from this awe-inspiring film's success and efficiency. But will they?
Plus, delve into recent releases like "Rebel Moon," dissecting why, in my opinion, it falls short, revealing the stark contrast between big-budget letdowns and Godzilla's budgetary triumph.

It's NOT Godzilla Minus One. I was disappointed that all of the best visual fx were in the trailers and tv spots. The other Godzilla scenes were awful or worse. The ending was also a bit of a let down. It just wasn't very dynamic - Godzilla had to remain still for the takedown to work, and so he did. When the tug boats show up, they gloss over what must have taken 20-30 minutes to hook every boat up to pull him to the surface. It was some major handwaving and hokey editing for a movie like this. I don't think spent a lot of time on the ending. Maybe they ran out of money.

@@ericmatthews8497 (Just my opinion) Regarding the scene where godzilla was hunting the small wooden ship was the first action scene in years, which actually felt like action. Without any exeptions, and really without exeptions , there was no MCU scene that made me worry about the characters or what could happen. I feel like all the film producers went to the same school and forgot to train creativity. It feels like seeing the same scene over and over again. At one point some point a person the character cares about is held captured from the villain, following the exact following pattern. Villian:"Haha, do what i want" Hero: "No" (If we´re lucky: "Everything will be fine!" With dramatic Music) Villain: Mean Face, Hurts the character and does it so long, until the hero steps in and says: Hero: I do what you want! Unimportant character falling to the ground, and hero running to them.(Both captured) Villain left satisfied. End I´m so worried! I´m really thinking, that they´ll make it out alive, especially when knowing that all the studios care about is money and that they won´t kill them just to make a sequal, worse than the last and probably exactly the same, using the exact predictable Pattern. That´s not the case in Godzilla Minus One I thought they would just kill everyone but the Main Character and put him into a multiverse to find and train every Kaiju ever seen before to fight and defeat Godzilla. The next Movie about Godzilla returning through the multiverse bringing every version of himself to fight everything and destroy everyone. Welcome the Godzilla Cinematic Garbage Universe. I hope so bad that there will be a sequel of Godzilla Minus one, and if it´s just to show what "CINEMA" mean and what Hollywood has to do with their Blockbuster to give them something like quality. In short: Hollywood is boring and predictable, Godzilla Minus One is NOT (Just my opinion)

Sato's score is incredible. The opening cues with their atmospheric dread paint the perfect picture, then, in the scene where the Takao fires on Godzilla, BOOM, we are hit with "Divine" which might very well be the best musical interpretation of the titular character I have ever heard (second to Ifukube's original of course). The low brass and dense strings, the strong downbeats outlined by thunderous percussion, and the choir chanting a mournful lament, "Divine" encompasses everything that Godzilla is about. Mythic, wrathful, god-like. Incredible!

Just seen it. 9/10 puting this one number 1 on monster movie. Most cuase it has the most value in symbolism. You hot all the main points. Godzilla clean cut manifestation of war, greif, and fear. Main character repersenting challenge of war survival guilt. Planes: changing of time and value. Ships: giving up gun for alerinative methods. Side character also had a number of them. Instead of blindly following death they became a leader pulling the community together. Even the ending with the salute held alot of value. Instead of disappointment him failing to do his duty they respected him for choosing to live. Also scean well done and easy to look at. Not alot of flashing lights and barely visible shot. Run time was good to. Not to long and straight to the point.

Saw this movie, has to be the best Godzilla movie produced from Toho. The best balance of human to Godzilla screen time. And characters that are compelling to watch. The fact that it is a period piece makes it even better. By far, right up there with the 1954 Godzilla. Stays the most true to the original messaging behind Godzilla. Similar but better than Shin Godzilla. Anybody who hasn’t seen it should definitely see it. And it should win awards at the Oscar’s, maybe best picture?

I find this comparison between minus one and the American Godzilla funny, because it seems like people are filling these films as if Hollywood had abandoned everything that Godzilla was before, while Toho has already done that, like, being a hero, anti-hero, villain , victim, Godzilla has been all of this in Japanese films, since the Showa era, Hensei, Millenium, recent shorts, and the fact that Toho is enjoying and even has total respect for the Monsterverse only makes this situation even funnier, as both are legendary ( Americans) and Toho (Japanese), are doing the same thing nowadays, reliving the past with current technology, the only difference is that the Americans are reliving the showa hensei Millenium era etc., while the Japanese are reviving the solo films, seriously and heavy that if you compare it to the entire franchise is made up of 5 films or more, I know that the script and the humans (some at least) of the recent monsterverse films are very weak, but that doesn't make the film crap (at least not for me ), especially GvK in which the proposal, the focus of that film was the obvious one in the title, and they delivered, what will come in this next film may not have a serious tone like the one in 2014 or like the minus one, but maybe The story of the monsters, from Kong's perspective, can be quite heavy, I mean, have you seen the origin of this Kong? It's sad man, so let's not exaggerate and say the next movie is going to be silly just because Godzilla is doing the same thing he did 40 movies ago, running. (detail, I'm not saying that minus one is bad, quite the opposite, it's Oscar worthy, but you know, it seems to have gotten into people's heads a lot)

I'm going to watch Minus One a couple more times if only to look at the amazingly accurate sets. I know a lot about the war in the Pacific and this movie is dead on. I had always held the original Godzilla, despite its dated filmmaking effects and techniques, as the BEST Godzilla film ever made. Minus One has, without any shadow of a doubt, dethroned it as the greatest entry in the entire franchise. The Monsterverse is big dumb stupid fun and moving more and more into the Marvel style and trying to make Godzilla and Kong super heroes. If that's what floats your boat, go for it. But for me, I love GREAT storytelling, interesting and compelling characters, and caring about the human story as it's absolutely VITAL to the authentic Godzilla experience. Why? The original 54' film was a HUMAN FILM. Godzilla was simply the foil. A personification of Japan's fears and the horrors of the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He was, more than anything else, a broken mirror of humanity and representing its sins and atrocities laid bare. The Monsterverse does away with ALL of that and instead is trying to lean into a totally different, borderline unrecognizable version of Godzilla who looks more and more like a bad Marvel/DC hero complete with all the crappy writing and mediocre presentation you could ask for from those films.

"No, it wasn't another reboot of a beloved franchise" That's EXACTLY what Minus One was. Another reboot of a beloved franchise. It's a great movie, but there are a few points that are conveniently overlooked or under-mentioned. 7 years ago TOHO gave us Shin Godzilla. A reboot of the Godzilla franchise. Nothing prior is canon. 2023, TOHO gave us Minus One. A reboot of the Godzilla franchise. Nothing prior is Canon. The MonsterVerse has been telling a cohesive story and world building for 10 years. TOHO have given us 2 movies...in 7 years...both resets. What the Hell? But what do YOU guys think? Are many of Minus One's flaws overlooked by critics? Are critics ignoring TOHO's inability for long form storytelling? Has Warner Bros. done more for Godzilla in 10years than what TOHO has done the last 20? Leave me a like and tell me your thoughts below!

Godzilla Minus One is fantastic, but I admit that it isn't my favorite kaiju movie. Shin Godzilla; Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, and the Heisei Gamera trilogy all slightly edge it out for me personally. That said, Minus One is probably the BEST kaiju movie ever made, so only being "nearly my favorite" is hardly points against it.

This narrative needs to stop. GM1 is an amazing movie, and my top Godzilla movie ever but it is not doing anything to Hollywood. Yea it’s a great success story for a small budget but so was evil dead rise (smaller budget than gm1 and made money than it did). Hollywood has had many successful small budget movies. Stop acting like the movie made Barbie money. As for the Hollywood making sequels and reboots; this is Godzilla’s 37th movie. Toho has rebooted him like 6th times. This movie is the second straight full reboot of Godzilla they have done. Yea it has great characters and stories, less than 20 yrs ago they made a movie about aliens invading earth and Godzilla using his atomic breath to blow up a meteor. While is g fans love Final Wars, pretty sure general audiences wouldn’t have liked it. Enjoy the movie but stop trying to use it as a statement
