It's not a question of backbone, it's a question of goals and objective thinking. Do you want to be with her? Well then fix the problem and don't let petty emotions or notions of "backbone" get in the way of acheiving your goal. There's no point trying hard some days and then fighting against your own efforts other days. If you don't try to resolve the problems you're basically doing the same thing she does, which is really dumb. If you don't actually like her or don't think she's worth the effort, just let her go. If you like her, try hard. If you're not consistant with that choice you're probably a woman yourself.
