How Geno Smith REVIVED His Career (And The Seattle Seahawks)

Спорт

Geno Smith was once a New York Jets second round, but after things didn't work out, he spent years as a backup before finally getting another chance to start for the Seattle Seahawks...

Manning did not start all 16 games, he was benched for Geno. It was controversial because it broke Mannings streak. Geno also had his jaw broken by a teammate while playing for the JEts.

I hope this motivates a lot of teams to take chances on ex NFL QBs in the future. Geno Smith just proved to the whole world that all it takes is time and elbow grease. They'll be chanting your name one day if you stay committed and patient long enough. I can already think of a few players that could revive their careers hopefully!

In addition, I think it takes a great coaching staff and front office to maximize their players’ potential. On a shorter timeframe, look how Trevor Lawerence boosted his career with Doug Pederson as HC. Providing talented players with great systems goes a long way. Hopefully both Smith’s and Lawrence continue to get better over time!

I think sitting in the same QB room as Eli Manning (with two super bowl wins), Philip Rivers (no rings, but one hell of a QB resume in the NFL) and Russell Wilson (1 ring and 1 infamous "what not to do on the goal line" moment) helped Geno immensely. He surely gleaned every winning trait he possibly could from them. Hope he's got a couple more great years in him...there is legit a chance they could make it to another super bowl.

It’s scheme and coaching accentuating his talent. Influence from other QBs accounting for his play is pretty laughable, especially the ones you named and how careless with the ball their styles were. QB influence isn’t really a thing that translates to on field production.

Geno gets the ball out on time, throws over the middle, takes what the defense gives him, and can throw to the flats- all things Russell Wilson struggled with or didn’t do. The offense flowed smoothly like it hadn’t done in years.
