    The Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and beneficial. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Acts 13:2; 14:23). Fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37; 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take your eyes off the things of this world to focus completely on God. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to ourselves, that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Fasting helps us gain a new perspective and a renewed reliance upon God. Although fasting in Scripture is almost always a fasting from food, there are other ways to fast. Anything given up temporarily in order to focus all our attention on God can be considered a fast (1 Corinthians 7:1-5). Fasting should be limited to a set time, especially when fasting from food. Extended periods of time without eating can be harmful to the body. Fasting is not intended to punish the flesh, but to redirect attention to God. Fasting should not be considered a “dieting method” either. The purpose of a biblical fast is not to lose weight, but rather to gain deeper fellowship with God. Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetics, for example). Everyone can temporarily give up something in order to draw closer to God. By taking our eyes off the things of this world, we can more successfully turn our attention to Christ. Fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want. Fasting changes us, not God. Fasting is not a way to appear more spiritual than others. Fasting is to be done in a spirit of humility and a joyful attitude. Matthew 6:16-18 declares, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

    I've been doing OMAD on/off since I was 13-years-old because of weight control in wrestling. I regularly do 2-3 day fasts and have been doing 10-day fasts usually 2x a year. I've never prepared for any fast, I just did it. Fasting is magical. I have quite the love affair with alcohol but a long term fast levitates the brain in a completely different way. Anyone who's lived the 3x meals + snacks life style along with a sedentary lifestyle who has also lived the fasting life with maximum output exercise can tell you what the average human experience feels like and what it is supposed to feel like. Lift as heavy as you can, eat only one (natural) meal every other day and after 3 months your perception of existence will change.

    I have IBS and realized my gut heals when i fast, when i only drink tea and water. Please tell me, do you constantly eat once each other day? Or only for several weeks? When u don't eat once every other day, do you have one single meal a day? What do you eat with your meal: proteins, leafy greens, legumes or healthy carbs? I would love to eat as rarely as possible, as long as i keep my health/energy level. I have also been thinking of having an entire day of fasting once or twice a week. Two days in a row only with tea/water would be better than 2 separate days within a week?

  • @makokx7063

    @makokx7063

    @@janka482 Thanks for the questions. Sorry to hear about the IBS, I had a bout myself when I was younger. It's a nightmare scheduling your life around being near a bathroom. I usually just do one meal a day. Maybe 2-3x a month I'll go a couple days. I get a little sick if I eat soon after waking up and I'm never hungry for lunch so 90% of the time I only eat 1 meal and nothing else, just water, too. I do on occasion have a coffee with some milk and the milk would of course break the fasting effect. Also I'm not religious about it. If I go to a BBQ in the afternoon I will eat something. I'll also grab a drink with friends at night well after I had my meal. It's my standard routine but I have no problems enjoying special occasions. I'd say most of my food is just animal products and veggies. I don't keep track of the nutrition, just make what I want. I'll usually have a nice chunk of meat with some kind of sauce. A nice chicken thigh with steamed broccoli + carrots, maybe some tomatoes covered in a sauce (butter, garlic, onions, cream, chicken stock) kind of deal. Maybe some baked fish with lemon and asparagus and a salad. I've never had an attachment to carbs really. Bread and pasta don't have any taste to me and are just vehicles for the foods that actually taste good so I just eat those foods on their own. I do however have the occasional cheeseburger or pizza, again, I'm not religious about it. For me energy is never a problem. The only time things get hard is if I go on vacation and regularly eat bad, after a few days of that I can feel my mood swing, brain fog, energy flux etc. I'd say most important thing is just to experiment and find out what works for you. I have a great friend who eats like a squirrel. Every hour he's nibbling on something and he seems to be doing just fine. The OMAD and low carb life just fits for me although I would HIGHLY suggest to anyone who hasn't to try it at least once in their lives. Low Carb, Good Exercise, OMAD, 3 month. Anyone with any conditions though, including IBS should likely consult with someone beforehand. 99% likely going to be ok but the body is a complicated machine. Best of luck!

    @@makokx7063 thank you so much for the detailed answer, that was very kind of you! I have also noticed i feel better if i eat more fats, proteins, vegetables and less carbs. Of course one has to improve first their medical conditions before finding the best diet for themselves. I wish you succeed in whatever you do, u still have disciplined your body to a way greater extent than most people, even if you are not religious about it. Cheers!

I always am about a week out and could never work out why. Even today at the gym I just couldn’t push myself and after half an hour called it quits. My cycles being so regular means I am heading home to put all my new knowledge to work in my planner and making my cycle not just work for me but be able to honour it at the highest level. I’m so blown away right now and beyond grateful. Off to buy Dr Peltz’s book tomorrow. Thanks Jim for your book, have it and loved it. Changed the way I learn!!!!❤

    Thank you for having Dr Mindi. She’s truly a gem to us females. This is the best I’ve heard her explain a woman’s cycle, how our hormones changes and how we should adapt our fasting according to the way our hormones changes. Amazing learning experience ❤❤

    Thank you so much Dr. Mindy, this makes complete sense to me. It's been a life struggle aligning with my body's needs against societal/work/ life demands. Often times as a woman, you know instinctively what's good for you at any given time but the demands of life can erode this knowing causing you to act against better judgement. My longest fast was for 14 days straight and it was the best thing for me. It was also very scary to come off that fast because I felt so good. It even had me questioning if food was the genesis of all my health issues...... was I allergic to food 🤔. Needless to say, I did stop the fast.

    Very informative. I regularly do 18:6 but haven’t experienced any noticeable improvements in any area. Early on in 2019 when I started I lost weight and experienced so much mental clarity. Maybe I need to stretch the fasting time.

    Also, try changing up your fasting. Dr. Mindy recommends varying fasts. Also, she has some handouts that tell you the benefits of fasting based on the number of hours you fast.

    Even a prayer to work needs people who fast. ( Fasting and praying can change your life. Als Jesus talked about. His disciples asked him after failing to pray for a person who was demonized. Jesus told them you can do by FASTING and PRAYING . So a body is healed at the same time the prayer works.
