Another great and super informative video Block. I’m really impressed with how deep Mac went into the testing process. A lot of folks may have been put off by the technical discussion, but understanding how the dyno calculates each run is useful. Now, if I ever have an opportunity to dyno my FXDL, I know the questions to ask to keep the testing facility honest. Kudos to you guys for this one!!!

Great video dyno operator & communicator. I’m a life long motor head & hot rodder and I picked up a few things. Block good on you for doing this and deciding to follow it with a typically rode stage 1 1200. The old engine air cooled 1200 will fall short of this liquid cooled beast but it will be closer and a good comparison that many would like to see. Can’t wait till Harley finally adds their new liquid cooled V twin into the lineup. Never made sense to me with Harley stopping production of the V-Rod motor. Same ish displacement liquid cooled V twin that would have made a great comparison as well. I went through this dyno tune stuff last fall with my stage kit & Harley tuner (to retain warranty) Sport Glide on the same dyno. Good experienced tuner & nice moderate tune riders setup but he was not the communicator your dyno operator is. I did expect the liquid cooled Indian to do better though. 80 HP isn’t that strong by today’s standards even for a V twin cruiser motor. My SG made almost 80 HP stock then 116 HP on a still mild & warranty setup without the benefits of liquid cooling. Oranges I know but I recently saw 160 HP & TQ pull on a modified but pump gas M8 Harley. And KTM’s Super Duke 1290 liquid cooled V twin is factory rated 177 HP with 106 foot o twist. Though it’s more of a street legal race bike setup. Like your dyno guy said it takes 120/130 HP now days for any street cred. Lol or 200 HP for today’s big crotch rockets.

If the throttle body is controlled by a wire and not cable you should have a camera watching that during a pull on the dyno . I watch some Harley M8s do some stuff. That why I like ecm flashing and use a piggy back like power vision for other adjustments. For real watch the throttlebody blade. During a pull.

Another question. Regarding tuners. How many of you prescribe to the notion of deleting your O2 sensors? I'm in the camp of keeping them ,but moving from the factory narrow band to a wide band. My ex runs her 103 stage 1 with O2 delete using VH Big Radius and TTS. I swear on certain days with weather changes it runs crappy. I run a M8 stage 2 torque cam, wide band O2s stock headpipe with Kerker Stouts PV tuner ..never have issues .

Awesome vid, as always. I'm lovin' learning all this. Great lessons on power, all the air/fuel/flow/exhaust info. I'd love to see some stuff on Jimmy's Warrior. That's the muscle version of the bike that I want, which is the Road Star. The engines are the same, the tuning is just different to give it the muscle, so anything that I can learn about that bike would be great. I'm very old school. I'd like to understand untuned antique styled carburation. I'm just not as into tuners, computerized controls and FI. (yeah, I know, tonnes of benefits, but it's just not for me) The best that the previous generation can provide is what I'd like to learn. Maybe even compare some numbers between the olde school and the new school. Thanks for sharing with us.

Surprised at the way the Scout 1200 limiter kicks in at 120 whilst the Victory Octane runs out up to 9k.. shift light comes in at 7800, I know 6th on the Octane is an OD, not sure about Scout, But the way of calculating out on a top gear is going to hurt figs on higher revving bikes like the Scout and favour those where the power and torque is lower in the Rev range (like a Harley) #justsaying but hey, no conspiracy, appreciate you guys running the Scout again.

HP at the rear wheel is not what the engine is. Brake Horse Power is the most accurate measure of just the engine. The technical aspect of the video is good but rear wheel measuring can have some things not taken into account like tire slippage. I’m always suspicious of rear wheel horse power numbers because the machine doing it may inaccurate.

Something is off with that setup, the bike definitely get higher that 6600Rpm. I normally ride it around that RPM when I'm on the Highway for long runs. The engine doesn't even wake up until you hit 5500, the bike definitely gets up to 8K before the limiter kicks in, and the limiter is very noticeable when you hit it.

So 16 minutes in, hearing that it's making its power way up at or near red line, is that telling me that if I had this bike, I might benefit from a cam change if I never what to ride it at that high of rpm? What good is power if it's at a place you never want to ride anyway? Might another cam or tune get me more power at a lower rpm than what it is set up from the factory at that lower rpm? It's like they say, it's not how fast you go, it's how you go fast.
