2025 Indian Scout: Familiar Attitude, New Potential!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

💭 The first-generation Indian Scout, in this form, released in 2014. 10 years later, the 2025 aims to reinvent what made Scout popular among many riders. With 5 new models, each Scout has a different flavor with hidden attitude powered by a new engine. I got the opportunity to ride each one in mixed environments, here are my impressions.

    Indian just makes really beautiful and fast machines- on a ride on my Chief Bobber I stopped at a lookout above Borrego Springs here in the SoCal desert and a 75 yr old lady walked up and just loved it- she told me when she was a little girl Indians were the bike to have because they were just fast and beautiful looking, she was so happy that Indian still exists- I get that often, not that Harley isn’t also beautiful but people love to see these Indian bikes

  • @BrandonBicasso

    @BrandonBicasso

    3 ай бұрын

    It feels similar to a FTR engine, but the chassis setup makes it a different experience. You sit more over the engine on FTR and fuel under you versus the engine and fuel in front of you on Scout. Both are rev-happy engines, but Scout is geared towards chill riding too with Super/Scout Classic. This gear ratio helps with not having to shift as early so that helps with that chill experience if you want it. Or.. ya know.. rev it out.

The only thing is, you and the other guys mentioned "stalling" quite often at the beginning of the vid. Now is that a preproduction problem and is it solved now. I don't have more info on that, unfortunately. Someone present mentioned that it can happen on the FTR as well but doesn't after the bike is up to operating temperature. My guess is possibly the tuning on the clutch was at the edge of the friction zone and maybe involved the clutch assist. At operating temps, all the metal expands so less likely to happen. Other than the few mishaps, I had no issues with it but worth noting.

    @@BrandonBicasso that’s my worry. These are all so new that everyone keeps talking about them comparatively - which makes sense - but the suspension is talked so badly for it. I bought a Bobber in 2017 and was content with it. The suspension upgrade wasn't worth it to me then. Now, I'd consider it. If you can afford it, consider the upgrade after enjoying the bike a bit. There are more options available than when I bought mine. Also, you can get the adjustable rear suspension off 101 Scout no issues. You got options at least, but 2" suspension for the Bobber look is def part of what makes it... it.

    By comparison: How does the steel frame tubing feel over the aluminum? Can you feel a difference? Historically the aluminum being a softer metal absorbs vibration over the steel. Hence the reason high end mountain bicycles are aluminum. What are your thoughts? My 22 Scout Bobber ABS Icon is aluminum and I want to move up to the newer 101, just need to wait until Indian works out all of the bugs. My bobber still has the stick seat and suspension so, it’s very bumpy. When I travel on the highway, I use extra caution. I’ve almost been thrown off.

    Do you prefer the Scout over the Chief? Is it faster? One of the reasons I bought a Super Chief was I wanted low RPMs at highway speeds. As far as the wind buffeting, this is the first bike I've owned with a windshield so I have nothing to compare it to but so far I'm loving my SCL! It's beautiful and it's a BEAST!!!

    Scout has more top end, less weight so it will outrun a Chief. Also, Scout makes most of its power at 7500rpm. You're shifting Chief at 5400rpm so you're still pulling on Scout. Different kind of ride, but a Chief would come off the line crazy strong with the torque and taper off. (stock anyway) I prefer my Chief tho. I like the torque and Thunderstroke character.

    I test rode a sport scout a couple days ago and at stop lights, my thighs were getting cooked! That was my first time on a scout, so I am trying to figure out if it being 90 degrees outside was a bigger issue or if something was wrong with that bikes cooling or if that’s just how these bikes are. I have a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 now and obviously smaller engines don’t get as hot, but I’m trying to get an idea what is normal on a bigger V-twin that is liquid cooled. What was your experience with the engine heat in your riding it?

  • @BrandonBicasso

    @BrandonBicasso

    14 күн бұрын

    Heat wasn’t an issue for me. I’ve been vocal about it on the previous gen but I felt it was better on the ‘25. I haven’t ridden it in 90+ degrees yet either, however. Larger displacement engines will produce more heat even with liquid cooling. Part of the cooling is for temps and producing more performance. Emissions play a factor with the exhaust too causing heat with the catalytic converters.

    The Scout excelled at two things - styling and performance. The new one hits the performance and features, but misses on the styling and character. They lost a lot of character over previous scout models. Looks more of a generic build now with more tech. I like the raw bobber look and feel of recent years and I think the value of those will go up as an unintended result of this design shift. So many great custom builds on KZread, and the motor just looks amazing up until 2024. The newer tank isn’t doing it for me, and the exhaust takes something away as well. Don’t understand why the “sport scout” looks like a smaller “sport chief,” but without the inverted forks. Kinda strange to have “sport models” with different key components within your brand lineup.

  • @BrandonBicasso

    @BrandonBicasso

    I'm indifferent to the look, always subjective. I do like the newer frame. Older style is heavier, but it was more distinct. My Scout is stripped in the garage down to the engine. Wanted to powder coat the heads, but that's difficult because of the industrial design. Thunderstroke's outer heads are only covers so I was able to coat those. Different objectives in my thought process, but the new Scout has more flexibility to customize it. Debatable still.

  • @majrminer

    For sure. It still looks like a Scout. Especially the Scout Bobber. Not much different besides the amount of visible frame and added lines on the body. It's like a mini Chief, but side by side they look different. There's always that objective group on the decision choice. If they did nothing but add tech/engine, still would be scrutinized for not being different enough. Can't please all the sides so if Folks want it, they'll buy it. If not, they'll find another option. Me.. I can't afford it so I'm finding another option by working on adding similar tech to mine.

I have a cruiser already with forward control and low seat height and after 30min I want to get off from back pain having all my weight on my tailbone no support from legs....Anyway I may not be minority wanting these things.
